Hey all,
Since we are setting a high standard for the consistency, quality, and fictional seamlessness of the creative rewards, I thought it would be good to have a centralized place to discuss them. That way, you can all see every other discussion about what fits, what doesn't, and ongoing clarifications to the guidelines themselves.
Here are the guidelines: Creative rewards guidelines (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HmLwOYk8e_kyQ4nEEfHtLr-vvPb03vkaOntnrVlPKM0/pub)
And here is the Creative Rewards login:
http://rimworldgame.com/creative/index.php
So yeah - if you have any questions or uncertainties about what you want to do, start a thread and we'll answer!
EDIT - by milon, added creative rewards login
Guess i'll start this party.
How much and what kind of info do you need for weapns?
I know we've talked about spiderbots I just want to make sure to send the right info.
For PK's I would like to know more about the new skills so I can better plan my character. I know they aren't implemented yet but what are your plans for medicine, cooking, artistic, and crafting. Medicine and cooking seem straight forward, its artistic and crafting I'm most curious about.

??? I haven't heard word of any new skills. I'm thrilled don't get me wrong, my PK can't really work as a character unless there's a medical skill that isn't tied to social, but can you confirm this for me? I was actually planning on bringing up a separate medical skill myself on the Suggestions forum, but if it's already in-the-works so to speak...
Salt et al: If you bought the $500 tier I'll be handling you one-on-one via email or chat. I think you've provided some good info on your weapon and dude, so we're pretty clear there. I can message you when I start working on it (could be a few months).
The skills are:
Construction,
Growing,
Research,
Mining,
Shooting,
HandToHand,
Social,
Cooking, - Cooks tastier meals, doesn't set the kitchen on fire
Medicine, - Can do medical operations, and do them better. Some operations will have minimum skills, and risks of critical failure
Artistic, - For painting, engraving, sculpting
Crafting - For manufacturing items like guns and tools and perhaps furniture.
AWESOME! ;D
What about Pirate King stuff? I'm not sure I have a full grasp of what that actually entails if the Pirate King/Queen will be just someone that's communicated with or will actually end up joining the colony for... some reason?

Negotiating isn't in yet so for now your coming up with a name, background, and stats.
Characters have two backgrounds, childhood and adulthood.
Stats max out at 20 but all characters need to be balanced and allow room to improve stats.
All of what I said is over simplified but that's the basics.
Is there any way we can get a list of what childhood backgrounds are available along with adult backgrounds? just so we know what to go off of? thanks in advance.
Thanks Salt.

The wiki has a list of backstories (http://ludeon.com/rimworld/wiki/Backstories) that are in the game right now. I wrote all of them; they were just starting content to get the system going. They're good examples of the kinds of things that work well.
Hey there, I read through the longsleep revival briefing and thought the idea of transanimals overthrowing their human creators was a pretty interesting concept. With a Pirate King tier donation, would it be possible to create a reasonable transanimal leader that still fits in with RimWorld's lore? Thank you!

Sadly no, just because transanimals aren't really on the horizon for actually being in the game.

What about, say, ears and tails under the 'Fashion-driven genetic modifications' area when it comes to flavor for a pirate leader? Since I don't expect that you'll actually see them so they wouldn't need to be put into the game as an art asset. (...yes my pirate queen is supposed to have fox tails and fox ears... but it's negotiable)

In general I'd prefer people restrain themselves from this sort of thing. These kinds of gene mods really should be handled by a real game system which represents them in graphics and gameplay, and that hasn't been developed yet. Also, this isn't really part of a character backstory, it's part of a character description (see the guidelines (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HmLwOYk8e_kyQ4nEEfHtLr-vvPb03vkaOntnrVlPKM0/pub)for info on this). You'd be struggling to comfortably fit this under the 50 word limit.
However, since you're a pirate queen, I'l probably allow this if it were subtle. I really just don't want 200 people sending in all sorts of weird xenohuman/genemodded/transanimal characters; if that happens we'll have to disapprove a lot of entries. However, Pirate King backers are allowed to be slightly weirder if they wish.
your back story could mention having "stylish cat ears and tail", or possibly just have a trait that says (cat ears, tail).
you wouldn't need to have a custom character sprite, the players can imagine it. i also agree that something like this should be rare.

To clarify, you can't customize traits. They're not even in the game at this point. It's backstory, skill offsets, name, work disables.
I haven't seen any information on the work disables (or I may have missed it). Are these just work which our characters won't perform, and skills that they won't increase during gameplay? So if I didn't want my character to mine, I can 'set' that as disabled, and they would never do it?

It's types of work they'll never do. They don't map 1:1 to skills, though, because skills can map to multiple different actions, and will do even more in the future.

No worries, I have a few other character ideas in mind that will likely fit in a bit better. Thank you for the quick response!
Quick edit with a question: Will PK tier donations have the ability to choose the appearance of their character's sprite? Nothing too specific or specialized though, body type (thin, large) and hair colour?
You can choose your body shape. The clothes, of course, will change during the game. There are 5 shapes planned: fat, thin, hulk, male normal, female normal. The first two work with either sex.
(edit: hulk is unisex if you really want it to be)

Curious, even though this doesn't effect me, but why is "hulk" restricted to male?

I suppose it doesn't have to be. Changed.
A question about names for Pirate tier: NPCs in the game seem to go with last names that work with either sex (I could be wrong here). Can we specify the name to a single sex (for example my full name), and can we provide unisex names (my Norwegian surname, for example)?

Not yet, it's not that precise at the moment, however I don't know if Tynan wants to put in more details.

Kyphis and theandychrist, I have good news for you, you can now submit your creation using the brand new RimWorld Creative Reward Management System (http://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=1088.0)!

When your are submitting the name, your can choose if the character you create will be Male, Female or Either. So you can do either of your scenarios :)
Bear in mind the system is still in the testing phase.
So in the guidelines you say that you can't use obvious internet handles which I take it to assume that you can't use your youtube name for example right? That's what I was hoping to do for fun when I got it only to find out afterwords that it looks like I can't. Since it did say put in any name on the main page I took it to assume that I could.
It depends what your YouTube name is. Is it something people might call each other in real life? Or is it XxGhostKillerxX?
It's the same as my forum name, figured that could be the nickname while using a 'normal' name for the first and last. Like Bob 'foxador' smith or something like that
I wouldn't accept Foxador; it's too much of an Internet handle and will be distracting in-game. Sorry.
The content related to creative submissions is pretty deeply outdated. The text file with the information was written in like 2013 and doesn't even have a time/date stamp on it to let you know that. The submission process is up and running. The text file about submitting content should be updated to reflect that. I bought the game in July or August of this year and waited until November before looking for forum posts about submitting my name to be in the game because that's what the textfile said to do -- only I think it meant November 2013.

i bought the game plus the name feature but the name feature is not on the creative account for some reason. how long in general it takes before i can submit a name?
And how to passions figure into this?
Looks like the backstory content instructions in the sendowl download link are still placeholder from 2013.

Has anything changed, and how long exactly can I make it. I am a writer, and tend to be verbose, its a curse.
What exactly is this place for? Read around a bit, but still confused.
Soo, I am very sorry that it is now 2016 and I am finally getting to this. I bought this pack a looong time ago, and you told me that my first iteration of my backstory would not work. Well, here I am, ready to try again. I just don't know where to go or what to do to create a new backstory. If I recall, it was an email last time, but that email is long gone now.

This is quite interesting. I didnt think I would like rimworld as much as I have over the time. Is there a way to buy an upgrade to name in game/etc. if we just bought standard vanilla?

It takes more than a few days. I've been waiting for a little over two weeks now and it is still 'awaiting review.' :-\
Awaiting review means that you've entered your name/story and it needs to be reviewed before entering the game. This will normally be done only once or twice before a new alpha comes out. Your character can only be in the game with the next release as it needs to be incorporated into the game files.

That sort of ansers my question, but my name in game has been "awaiting review" since august 2015... Have I done something wrong? I have tried to save it again today, as I thought it might have not gone through. I really don't think that Dobri "Dobchan" Dobrev breaks any rules :)

We (as in the moderator's here) don't have any say or input (or anything) to do with the Creative Rewards, so I'm afraid we do not know the particulars of any decision that is made.
Tynan (the developer) deals with all the Creative Reward stuff himself, so I guess your best option is to send him an email

Yeah I bought the name in game feature a few weeks ago hoping it would be implemented into 1.7 but I'm very disappointed it wasn't. So now I need to wait for 1.8 for my name to be in the game?
I think you mean Alpha 18, but yes, that's correct. Developer time is best spent developing the game, so all the pending Creative Rewards are gone over once per release cycle. I know it's frustrating now, and I apologize for that, but this is only a temporary set back - you'll have your character in the final product (and most certainly sooner than that).

I would assume so (as long as it's not already taken), but I don't make any official Ludeon decisions. There's no pre-approval process, but if the name isn't accepted you can choose another. Either way, you get to create a character. And sometimes I've seen rejections be appealed, so even a first rejection isn't always absolute.
hello, this might be asking for too much but i was wondering if possible with the in game name offer that when that character is created that the information and backstory of the character is emailed to the person?
Why do you want an email?
For your information: with the name in game tier you can enter a name and it is possible to find you with random traits. The backgrounds are not fixed to that name but randomly choosen every time.
It is fixed only for the backstory in game tier. (Even backstory has random traits)
Edit: Backgrounds, not traits are fixed..
okay, i assumed you would be the same character each time in everyone's game
Hi. I have some ideas to improve the game... if it is necessary to write here, here's the first: the ability to wear patients or prisoners yourself, so that the character could wear a bed patient or a prisoner himself. Because if the saved patient after he recovers decides to leave - he will freeze on the road, not reaching the edge of the map.
Hi,
A few months back my name suggestion was rejected on the basis that "It isn't very believable as a real person outside of a high fantasy universe", the name I suggested did follow the guidelines however as I literally just sent in my actual name (Real names are best!). Just because a name is rare doesn't mean its a fantasy name?
I've been having issues logging in with steam to input my Backstory in Game. the website doesn't seem to register my login as anything but basic. I have my receipt still from 2013. Any help would be appreciated, as the forums is about the only option i have left to get this resolved.
My Creative submission for an in game name was rejected, I attempted to reply to the email but never received an answer so I figure I would post it here, unless someone has an email for me or a better way of getting my issue addressed.
I'd like to state if the answer is final, it's final and I won't argue, and I will simply change it. It was rejected because the "Nickname" portion was like an internet handle, which I am aware is against the rules. It is my real name, with the nick name being my last name backwards. This was my actual nickname growing up, as well as my fathers, and his fathers. It's a goofy nickname for sure but since it is a legitimate nickname and also kind of my real name I feel it is appropriate. I am hoping with the added info about the name it might possibly be accepted. However, if it isn't I will resubmit with just my first name twice, I just figured I'd ask as I'd rather not waste something that is a one time use if it is at all possible I get the better option accepted.
Login for name in game does not work.
