Ideas / What is Rimworld about, really?

Crash landing on a planet, only to be attacked by random gangs armed with pistols, machine guns, grenades, and the occasional robot attack.

Who are these people? Who are these robots? Why are we fighting and what is the point of all this?

I think Rimworlds strongest point is gameplay but I feel like the theme/story is quite weak. I think the game could be improved in some of these other areas. Why not introduce a new factions, enemies, strongholds, and generally just things to further flesh out this new  world and lore? Giving the game more sense would go a long way.

This is something Minecraft has done. Over all the updates you can continue using the same save game. Is this something Tynan plans to do for Rimworld? Some way for the game to update saves to the latest version?

More permanence in our saves would be so sweet. I want to be able to set up more bases around the map and switch between them, or find an enemy faction base and take the fight to them for once, or take my pawns out on long, far distance expeditions for more resources and finding more cool shit in the map generation.

Also more ways to grow a colony besides taking in the odd wanderer. We have relationships and marriage so I think it would make sense to have reproduction introduced in some way.
