General Discussion / Dependency and Overdosing
May 02, 2023, 04:32:10 PM
Pawns have the following dependencies

Wake-up, Alcohol, Smokeleaf and Psychite. All grant x0% chance of overdose.

They use

Wake-up, Beer, Smokeleaf and Yayo.

Overdoses are happening on all pawns randomly from 16-38 years old. I've hear something about using multiple hard drugs cause a multiplier chance of overdosing but anything x0% is still zero. Basically none chance times 4 is still none.

So I'm confused as to what exactly is allowing them to overdose because these drugs can't cause overdoses in pawns with these genes. The only thing they should have to contend with is tolerance.

For quick reference

Little help.

number of technologies?
really?
and what is that number?

Transhumanist alone has a bunch. Go look it up yourself if you want to refute things, I'm not your servant.

some possible buffs
- combat buff (accuracy, rate of fire, etc)
- ability to train combat stats (punching bag, target practice, surgery practice)
- remove/reduce the 67% death on knockdown for enemies
- easier time converting/recruiting prisoners
- long range (multiple over map tiles) artillery strikes

edit: typo

Actual combat training would be a real solid option. Even a bonus to guns/melee learn rate would be valuable, anything to actually make them better at the thing they do.

How completely insane are is your wealth levels for this stuff to be spawning? Is the entire colony made of gold and silver everything? You should have massive defenses if your wealth is enough to attract raids like that. If you are just stockpiling wealth then you are making yourself a juicier target.

Do you have any mods adding things to the game or changing any values? Every time I see something posted like this it turns out to be a mod with stupidly valuable drugs/weapons/armor/furniture/food or something.

I'm confused as to how you got to this point and failed to put resources into defending your insane wealth.

Grenades do a great job countering large numbers btw.

before rolling your eyes really hard, you should run the game and check how exactly memes are implemented, you can have raiding precept without raiding meme.
(and memes do nothing on they own)

you should research subject a little bit before arguing with people.

Thanks so much for pointing out that it's not even linked to the Meme further proving my point on how half baked the meme is. Why does it even exist if it isn't required and does nothing. Seems like you overlooked that little point. Raider Meme is a half baked Supremacy Meme.

Seems my thread is still on point. But feel free to keep up the "L2P" type arguments.

I'm sorry, did you say Memes do nothing? I'm certain that a number of precepts are locked behind a Meme in addition to specialized jobs. A number of technologies can only be accessed if you have the Meme unlocking the precept required by the technology.

Might I suggest that you should research a subject a little bit before arguing with people? It might help.

Quoteserious reply

let me guess, as long as my reply does not fit your personal opinion it's not considered "serious" right?

lot's of people do not understand "design" behind Rimworld, for such people workshop and mods exists.
https://youtu.be/VdqhHKjepiE

I'm talking about a single specific meme, not memes in general, you start talking about precepts (off topic) making massive generalizations about the overall game design (off topic) effectively dismissing everything I said with lazy generalizations. I make a serious response and you quote 1 line talk about biomes (again off topic) like it has anything to do with the context and specifics of this thread.

"lot's of people do not understand"
I couldn't eyeroll harder.

Topics you don't like should be lazily dismissed as "people who do not understand" the game. Because you believe your opinion is the only correct one. You are projecting that on me.

QuoteI'm afraid I don't subscribe to that line of excuses.
this is exactly what developer said.

just like nasty biomes like ice sheet that provide no rewards for increased difficulty.

Biomes aren't a playstyle.

If you aren't going to make a serious reply then don't bother.

memes are not designed to be "balanced" and some precepts are self imposed challenge.

I'm afraid I don't subscribe to that line of excuses. Which is exactly what that thinking is. We can already adjust sliders to increase challenge and we can adjust precepts to do the same, there in controlling balance and challenge. The meme themselves should provide something of substance both beneficial and penalty wise that is thematic and more enables their related playstyles. They should thematically support with actual game mechanics the colony playstyle the meme entails. They should all provide a reason to justify there existence beyond challenge excuses.

What it looks very much like is some are simple undercooked. Trashumanist/undergrounder/Pain is virtue and Cannibal are all examples of a meme that aren't half finished ideas. It's quite clear which memes had time put into them and which were like the Raider meme "oh I don't know they wanna take things so global penalty to production and mood bonuses for raiding".

Just to put the final nails in the coffin of the entire premise of what you are saying, because I find it intellectually offensive, tell me why people who want the raider playstyle without more challenge aren't allowed to take that meme? A meme designed for them. Have a harder game if you like that playstyle...

Raider meme needs to do more. It's like Supremacy with requirements and a massive global production penalty.

Allow the meme to ignore Tainted for all clothing. Because no raider is crying about wearing a dead mans boots or anything else he had.

It still needs more however, that global production penalty is pretty brutal for a lousy mood buff. I'm aware that it causes more mini camps to spawn near you, that's not a big boon imo.

How is that a Transhumanism? Transhumanists what to trans away from humans to a higher state of being, non human machines. Transhumanists don't want to replace human parts for different human parts.

Sez who?

Bio-enchacements are transhumanism.
Mechanical enchacements are also trans-humanism.
BUT they are not one and he same. In fact, you can want one but despise the other.

Flesh is sacred, machine is unholy... or vice-versa.

They are the same thing and you are pretending there is a difference. They are both un-natural things made in labs with machines, they are both upgrades to the limited human form, thus transhumanist.

Straight from the wiki below
"Transhumanist: Human progress means merging with technology."

So "who sez"? the Dev Sez.

Even if the upgrades are themselves organic and not just upgrades for organics then it's still Transhumanist. It's a technology created upgrade or replacement.

So they are exactly the same thing with you pretending there is a difference because one is aesthetically more suited to you. They are all lab produced and most certainly not sacred or likely even flesh.

If you want to pretend mechanical parts are evil then go ahead and don't use them with transhumanist, problem solved.

Biological arm and mechanical arm are an examaple of two different things. One is OK, other is not.

Age reversal may be ok.
A scyther limb or brain chip would not.

As to how to sort them - a tag?

How is that a Transhumanism? Transhumanists what to trans away from humans to a higher state of being, non human machines. Transhumanists don't want to replace human parts for different human parts.

What do you want to give them cat arms or something?

Tribals with guns aren't tribals. The lack of modern tech is what makes them tribals.

They can buy or steal guns from those that can make them.

Tribal attacks are just raider attacks labeled "tribal" because of fluff reasons then.

I mean why not have them buy and steal advanced body armor and mortars too? Because they'd just be raiders or a normal colony then. That's completely redundant.

It's ego stroking. The game is about creating and managing a colony on a dangerous Rimworld where crazy stuff happens and events play out. Something I think Ty forgot somewhere along the line. I don't think random events causing everyone to breakdown makes it a story generator.

Pawns don't become mentally tougher, they don't become jaded or desensitized. They never grow up and act like people that understand their life is in danger. The Pawns don't grow as people, which would be required to be a proper story. In fact their expectations get higher as time passes making them more emotionally fragile.

It's a drama simulator not a story generator. If they insist on not accepting it's clearly a colony sim with some pawn drama tacked on to an events system.

General Discussion / Re: Taming insectoids?
August 15, 2021, 08:34:45 PM
How does the animal specialists calm ability interact with insectoids? They can calm manhunters, I mean the only thing stopping you from taming a insect is them attacking you on sight and calm might prevent that.
