Cant change defs and mods not working

Hi

running rimworld 13 and have previously used mods no problem
corrupted my rimworld file so had to delete and start again
now I cannot change the defs, as when I try to save it says access denied
I have the mods in the mod folder, and can see them in the mod tab in rimworld,
when I load my save it says there are the mods running, but they are having no effect in game

what am I doing wrong?

It seems to be a user's privileges problem.
You cannot modify some files which are located in 'sensible' locations of your PC.

1) Do some backup before any modification!
2) Try copy the file elswhere (on your desk)
3) Modify and save it
4) Then copy paste over the original.

basically, don't put rimworld or the savedata folder in the "Program Files" folder (or equivalent). If that still fails, make sure the files are owned by the account you're playing with. You could try to play the game with the admin account (right clikc, launch as admin) - but if you do that make sure you trust the mods you're playing with, because they'd get to run as admin too, and can potentially cause havoc on your machine (not that I've ever seen a mod have malicious code, but you never know).
