Okay so I found the "Example_Traits" file that explains a bit how to change this.

So eventually I figured out the simple editing, and renaming that file to "Traits", and bam, the custom name and description I write for any trait will show up in the game.

There must be a similar easy way then to get this working for backstories, can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks for the replies, no I just recently discovered the debug mode but I don't want to use it, as little as possible anyway. tempting to do a few cold snaps though. special thanks to call me arty lol. i am going to have to do something of that nature i think.

well actually i wound up giving up and deleting the save, I don't feel like building up again so I'll play the game sometime later. kind of ridiculous if you ask me it can get to 140F+ on a non-desert map.

well i dont know I always choose rainforest, but this time I increased the temp/rain before generating the planet, therefore turning the ENTIRE planet into rainforest.

but it's not like a normal planet's rainforest area, the temp is 120-140 which just seems ridiculous. too much and this is northern part as well

yea I know it's cheating, but I'm just not going to start yet another game at this point.

I figured to generate a high temp high rain and assumed it would be just like regular rainforest all over the planet, however its over 100 degrees ALL the time.

certainly aware of the actual work behind such things IRL, but that's pretty cool to hear about.

however I guess nowadays its kind of a moot point relating to *most* activities, you know, mass production, factories and such. but anyways seeing any of the "hard work" that goes into that stuff simulated in a video game, no way for me. any mmo already feels like more of a job than pasttime

i captured chief of a tribe last game, every recruit attempt was 1% chance of success, eventually just cut him loose

I have a really short one I think was pretty funny, the doctor lady was treating the old man scientist who had traits that made him pretty susceptible to mental breaks. So he does, and jumps out of bed and attacks her (this is actually why he was in hospital to begin with)

Then she pulls out rifle, shoots him point blank, and goes back to treating him  ;D

am I missing something here? Why do the animal areas and others not exist? They are blank (invert option lights the whole screen, opposite of not being there at all)

There is Animal Area 1 in the list, along with any I can create/rename, but can't find any control to specifically place them on the map...

so I had a funny idea for the psycopath + bloodlust character to have his own walk in freezer and butcher table in his house, sort of secretly making kibble for the colony to use from fallen enemies, lol.

but then I guess not worth it cause everyone would be aware of the butchering and get debuffed?

Thanks I just saw this, and wow it looks great but I hope doesn't feel "cheaty" with all the stats, traits, etc you can also change!

But I think with just the three starters it should be fine, the randomization of who you can get later still in play. I don't know if I want to play with permadeath off, but if you have a very long term game I think its much cooler to have freedom with your starting guys

Game is great,  and I guess this is something small to complain about, how come we don't have the option of customizing the looks? I think it would be a great deal of fun given the possibilities of different hair styles, colors, body shapes, etc. and naming as you see fit.
