Title: Original source for an all-too familiar klaxon?
Post by: Specialist290 on February 28, 2015, 02:02:49 AM
So I was watching some classic television with the family, not entirely paying attention to what show was on, when my ears were instantly pricked to alertness by a three-tone alarm we all know and love (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuaXCIUFMgU).

Now I have to ask:  Tynan, do you happen to be a fan of an old '70s TV show that went by the name Emergency! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency!) here in the States?  If so, that's a rather obscure reference (though undoubtedly an awesome one!).

Could just be a license free sound effect, or a pure coincidence.

I've certainly lost track of the amount of stock Bear sounds I've heard over the course of the last 15 years.
Happens a fair amount :P

public domain sounds are all over, or simply so good that people buy the same rights to the same sounds.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard doors, kids, dogs, other animals, etc all from games (mostly the same game, which makes me think it's super cheap) in random movies or TV shows.

If you are not familiar with the "Wilhelm Scream", then you are in for a treat:

I've heard the "Wilhelm Scream" before (in several different movies, though I have to admit the Star Wars ones were the first ones I heard them), and I'm aware of the idea of stock sound effects.  It's just this particular one is very distinctive and rather rare, so I'm still not entirely convinced it's just a case of the sound being reused from a catalog without someone being aware of the origin.

Aha! Nice catch.

IIRC I got this from freesounds.com; I'm afraid I don't know the TV show.
