how are log files used?

just curious how are log files used to determine whats wrong. I looked at mine right now and there's so much confusing information how do you the devs utilize it?

I'm not a dev, but I'll take a crack at this.  Others will correct me where I'm wrong, and hopefully I'll learn something new!  ;D

Some of the info dump is from Unity itself, and I kinda ignore that.  I have a general idea of what's supposed to be there, and what's not supposed to be there.  But mostly I just look for obvious error messages.  Common errors have common solutions, and I start from there and work through the known possibilities.
