I want to start a new game mainly focused on farming. But I want to know where orwhat is the best way to get domesticated animals? Cows pigs chickens. I go to a friendly base or should I qait for their caravan?

Im sorry if there's a threa like this somewhere.

I'd check all bases nearby, waiting for caravans that may have one of the desired animal types for sale can take forever.

Also I'd recommend the Colony Manager mod to handle your livestock.

Canute

Since you never find all animal at an outpost or a caravan for sale.
You should start with the animal you got on you map.
Instead pigs try boars, Muffalo/Alpaca/camel instead of cows, ...

And later when you want to sell your lifestock, you maybe find some "better" for trade.

When playing with alternative farm animals, also check out the Animal Overhaul mod

because of changes like
Quote
- Cassowaries, Emus, Iguanas, Ostriches, Tortoises, and Turkey can now lay unfertilized eggs
- Alpacas, Deers, and Ibexes can now be milked. Ibexes produce poor-quality wool now

Mufflamingo

Well I have animal overhaul and animalcollab.

Yes, that's what I did in my previous game.

But I really want a normal farm. But this is rimworld. Nothing is normal. Lol.

sick puppy

is there maybe an option for you to start off with farm animals as pets? i mean a chicken or a cow could be very valueable anyway until you find more

Canute

Sure,
at the scenario editor you can add animals you like to have at your starting stuff.

Mufflamingo

Sure I can do that and add animals in scenarii but my playstyle is making my colonists (prepare carefully) and starting with nothing. (Only clothes, no equipments and resources.)

This is why I want to get animals through buying or taming.
