I could check for myself..  but I'm too lazy and I'm sure someone else knows...  do the days (actually mean sunlight) get shorter in the winter months?

leax256

it seems that way. my pannels don't power things over night in the winter sometimes even if i removed items that use power...if it does then i think it should scale with the further north you get

Days def get darker in winter, but I can't find anything in the wiki, and I'm not sure myself.

The game simulates the lower position of the sun in the sky and the shorter days by accurately calculating the relationship between the sun's position in the sky, the amount of light on the ground, the time of year and the angle of the planet's axis.

In fact if you could land on the pole you'd get one long twilight lasting 6 months :)

Is that true? You aren't joking right? Sounds crazy lol

Please, tell me that we can land on the pole! ;D

Hmm.... Actually a "map" is a map of Minecraft planet or just isn't full.

No I'm not joking! I spent a long time figuring this out.

No, it's 80 degree north. I couldn't use a rectangular map to reach to the pole.

I had observed the light cycle of the day, but only at one latitude - before I realized that latitude matters, and put that in the wiki. I wasn't sure until now that time of year matters too. I'll go back and update the wiki on how this affects daylight.

Here's the wiki link:

Obviously she has already played Rimworld :P

I can confirm what others have been saying.  Been running a few colonies at higher latitudes lately, and I've noticed that in the summer, my solar panels still catch a little light during the "night," so clearly there's a "midnight sun" effect going on.

DDog

cool!  Thanks!  It seemed as though in winter (tundra pretty far north on the map) that my solar panels just couldn't keep up... hence the question!
