Can't tame animals

In numerous saves at this point, I have been unable to tame animals. If I select a colonist and right click an animal marked to tame, no menu appears. Even if I prioritize handling above everything else, my colonists won't try to tame anything. This is really making the gane so much less fun, please help.

Tynan

Did you ever designate the animal to be tamed?

Select the animal. Click the "tame" button at the bottom.

OR

In Architect->Orders, select the tame tool and click on the animal.

Yes, it is marked, just no menu appears when I right click it.

Just a shot in the dark, but do you have your colonist restricted to a certain area? Perhaps one that does not include the animal in question?
The only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.

Colonist is assigned to "unrestricted"

Hmm.  Stupid question, but is Animal Handling job enabled on that colonist?

Are you using any mods?

Please post your log file (@ RimWorld###\RimWorld###Data\output_log.txt)

I have noticed myself that when right clicking on something I might get a message that says "no place configured to bury"...or something similar.  Ends up, my colonists allowed area does not encompass said stockpile.  It has nothing to do with not being established, it's just that that particular colonist can't go there.  Kinda confusing.   It should say "Your colonist can't go there".

milon

Yeah, it is vague on that and it catches a lot of people (me too).  Mossy just said the colonist is "unrestricted", so that shouldn't be the problem in this case.

Handling is enabled, no mods. I will post my log file sometime in the future.

I know this will make me sound dumb, but can someone give me instructions for how to find-and post my log file on mac.

Or should I start a new topic?

It's fine to ask here.

The log file I referenced is where Windows puts it.  Mac is different.  I think the Mac log file is found in: ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log

Please let me know if that's correct or not.  It took a lot of searching for me to find that info, and it might be dated.  If you can confirm, I'll add the log locations to an appropriate sticky for future reference.  :)

Mossy piglet

Milon, here is my log file. I am real sorry I couldn't get it into a link, but your instructions for how to find it on mac worked excellent. If it does not work this way please let me know.

Yes, that's the log I was looking for.  I don't see anything unusual in your log file.  Can you upload the save?  We need both the colony save file (in the nearby Saves folder) and the world file (in the nearby World folder).  Note that the files will be too big to attach to the forum (you can attach smaller files to a post if you Preview -> + Attachments, and Choose File).  It will need to be uploaded to dropbox, google drive, onedrive, or another online hosting service (many of these are free, FYI).

Yeah, I will try to get you the save. Should not be a problem and i'll probably post it sometine later today. A question though, if I post the save/world, will I still be able to use them? It is no big deal if I can't, just wonderingn

Yes, you can still use them.  You're not removing the files from your computer - you're just copying them to a second location (online hosting) where everyone else can access them.
