Time - A matter of walking, ticks and numbers

The one thing that always stuck with me while playing the games was the significant amount of time wasted on matters like moving.

I felt that there needed to be more ticks in a day just so 30-50% of the time wouldn't be spent moving. Having colonists multitask was a tactical choice: do I get the miner out of the depths of his darkened pits outside to build that table, or would the ground suffice for dinner?

However, somebody on reddit mentioned something regarding this very matter - increasing the number of ticks (if I'm not mistaken, maybe something else) in order to make trivial actions take less time.

Haven't seen anything like it in the changelog, so here goes nothing:

Is any of it implemented?
Does any of this make sense in terms of balance and design?
Are there any plans?
