QualityBuilder - build like never before!

Description:

With QualityBuilder all buildings that have quality (beds, tables etc) will only be build by the best builder to ensure the best outgoing quality. Every other constructor will be able to bring in the materials, but only the best one will build it.

If you know Skilledbuilder, you know that QualityBuilder do the same thing?!

Why use QualityBuilder if there is already a mod that makes this?

With QualityBuilder you are able to set a minimum quality you want on a Object you want to build.
Tired of placing, deconstructing and replacing 100 of beds just to get some decent ones? This has an end now! You can set the minimum quality you want to get from you selected objects.

If the finished object does not met your minimum quality requirements, it will get deconstructed and replaced in same position and same stuff.


In the Architect->Order menu you have 2 new designators to set or unset if only the best constructor should build.
If you select one or more things that have quality, you see a toggle command. Do a right click on it to get the floatmenu for setting your minimum quality for these objects you want to get.

Compability
Will have issues with Skilledbuilder
This mod is save compatible. But there is one known bug with existing saves:
- If you deconstruct a object with quality, it will be placed again cause the flag from QualityBuilder is not available.

How to install:

I can see this as being a wayto quickly level a contructor when I have plenty of materials, lol.
Just set it to legendary and let that new guy with 1 construction and a passion go.

Really great mod. Is there an option to maybe have a minimum build stat along with "best builder"? For example, if I have two constructors in my colony above skill 10 and I don't mind either one building it.

nope there isnt and currently i dont know where to implement the controls for this. someone prefere this, someone prefere this.
This mod wont get ccl if its available. But if ccl is available, fluffys worktab will also be a thing again, so you cant modify vanilla worktab to add controls for it ( as example )

if you have 3 builders at lvl 7 which are the highest level, the mod WONT prefere the one with highest ep.

This is so ingenious. I know it's a descendant of Skilledbuilder, but hat's off to Hatti for taking it up a notch or two. It blends so well with Vanilla that it if I hadn't installed myself I would have thought it was Vanilla. I love the way the option for selecting minimum quality avoids adding clutter. This mod is second only to HaulPriority mod in practicality and usefulness. After just a few RimWorld days, my colony can no longer imagine life without QualityBuilder. Nothing better than a mod that makes a game less frustrating & tedious, without making it less (or more) challenging. tl;dr thx OP

Don't you get less material if you deconstruct something? Seems a tiny bit cheesey if you never loose materials you might as well remove the quality modifier. I don't mean to be negative, just my thoughts, I'm glad it fixed the CTD that Linux users were having.

This mod doesn't remove that. You still 'waste' materials, same as if you were doing it by hand.

I love it.

The ability to have several people help with building "static" objects (especially walls and floors) while keeping what actually depends on skill to the best builder is great.
The one improvement I can think of would be the ability to set a "range" of accepted builders. So if for example I have levelled a builder all the way to 20 but have a second guy at 19, and want him to help building furniture too.

I wonder if it would be possible to have something like this for crafting too, where anyone can work on safe jobs such as stonecutting, smelting, etc. and keep the production of clothes and guns to the professionals.

Hell, I could see something like this being nice for doctors too. Let several people handle the day to day bruise management, call in the real doctors for the serious cases and operations. Admittedly this last one is the easiest to micromanage.

You can do that to some degree with Fluffy's Work Tab (A14 mod). It allows to set the priority of sub jobs. So you can have doctors who don't do operations. Or nurses who only feed.

Or in other areas you can have animal handlers who do all jobs but tame. Or construction workers who only bring material to sites (not a hauling job)

This is actually pretty nice. I'm usually against this kind of thing (aka mods that eliminate any sort of randomness), but this will help a lot when making like 1300 hospital beds.

Thanks for reporting. This is only a warning and won´t break the game or something. Its just not nice to have but wont cause problems. Will fix it on next release

Another non-critical fix for your next release:

Type ModInitializer probably needs a StaticConstructorOnStartup attribute, because it has a field obj of type GameObject. All assets must be loaded in the main thread.

If this was usable for clothes/ crafter I'll grab this but sadly it isn't. I never work pawn as construction worker lower than 9 skill construction so this is fairly usless

I'm not sure I follow this. If you want to make sure only your best crafter makes clothes then you set only your best crafter as tailor. What's the problem? It's not like you need to set other colonists to tailor to do other tailoring jobs, there's only 1 tailoring job, right?

Just because you are after something else, don't put this mod down. It does what it's supposed to do and does it quite well. It's an elegant solution to a real problem that needed fixing.

QualityBuilder throws null exceptions when testing with my latest Hand Me That Brick release. I believe this is an error on your behalf, specifically in the detour for finishing frames / construction.

Error reproduction is very easy. Install latest QualityBuilder with latest Hand Me That Brick (you can find it in my Miscellaneous Mods thread).

After installation, start a new colony and disable construction for every pawn, but make sure you have pawns set to Haul. Designate a few QualityBuilder-enabled beds with available materials, and it'll error pretty soon afterwards.

I like this mod! My only thought is I'd like to have it able to set for anyone to build but still do the reconstruct if not minimum for training more builders.

Edit: Whoops, I'm an idiot, it can already do this! You can still set the minimum quality even if the best builder option is disabled. My bad!

Humm... I may have disabled "Hand me that brick" when the issue was with QualityBuilder... Although it might be a conflict with a completely different mod... I'll check the mod's forum page to confirm

Oh, found a bug though: If you set something to Quality Rebuild until a certain quality on top of an existing power line, it won't auto deconstruct. You have to manually set it to be deconstructed before it will place the blueprint automatically again.

Great mod, lets me automate the construction of 20 excellent quality beds/chairs/furniture even with a lvl 19 constructor! *looks at jmababa

PS: Does apparal quality have any effect other than sell price increase?

Fun fact: place a grave blueprint and set the target quality to "masterwork". I don't think graves give XP as fast as things that cost resources, but when you have no resources and really need a top-level builder for when you do, this is absurdly effective~

If you want xp without use of alot resources, harvest both arms of that crafter.
The manipulation ability is very low but when the job give xp by time not job like most tailoring/smithing things he will get alot xp.
Another "cheap" thing is, serveral weapon mods offer weapons that reduce global workspeed (-70% energy sword from Rimarsenal) + parka.

cant get it to work with prepare carefully always get this error and prevents the pawns from spawning no matter where in load order i put it

I get that one too but colonists do spawn only if starting method is landing instead of standing. The error still appears but colonists spawn.

Hello hello, I seem to have found a most astounding bug. In that everthing seems to cost 1 work to make.
I have read in a different thread where "WorkToMake" became "WorkToBuild" and I imagine that since Quality Builder overrides most of the vanilla stuff with their own particular stuff it's a cause. I mean it's the only possible reason double beds are taking 1 work to make.
On the other hand I scoured all the XML files of your mod and saw nothing relating to that, so maybe it's not the cause.

It's not. I use QualityBuilder and beds take the appropriate amount of time.

I got this little "yellow bug"

And i have active in this sequence:
core; hugslib; colony manager; animals tab; medical tab; blueprints; fluffy breakdowns; area unlocker; better pathfinding; better pawn controls; quality builder

Qualitybuilder does not mess arround with any xml properties or workamounts

In the qualitybuilder case, this warning is harmless. It just say that asserts needs to be loaded on a different way but i dont load any asserts. Its the hook into the game for the mod.

Occasionally, if you save while construction of a building is in progress and load that save, qualitybuilder may forget to deconstruct it if the quality is too low meaning you have to manually mark it for deconstruction, and it also may not place another blueprint after this, meaning you have to drop a blueprint again too.

I use them both without issue so it should be solvable for you.  Try moving Hospitality lower down your mod list, at least below Quality Builder if you suspect that's the conflict.

When now a minion deconstruct an furniture that should be rebuild, the new blueprint don't get generated.
When a regular pawn deconstruct it, anything is fine.

please, make it happen. Also. would be great to have "quality builder" icon on the already built furniture, so we can select all furniture of the same type, right click quality builder and choose "excellent", for example, so all furniture that is lower than "excellent" gets re-built.

How do i apply QualityBuilder to other mods?

By that i mean, the ability to effect build quality. I am using a "hospital" mod called "Fast Regen", that has beds in it. But when i build one it doesn't give the option of QualityBuilder.
It could be that the fast regen mod, doesn't have the quality variable at all. But i cant figure out how to give it a quality build attribute.

any help is appreciated.

I think he is talking about Quality Builder's quality setting which can be accessed by rightclicking. When a constructed item is below this quality, your pawns will automatically deconstruct it and try again.

Just wanted to 2nd this. I really really would like to be able to set a minimum build quality *before* constructing, so I can have a complex bedroom blueprint, set my modifier to 'good or better' and just let the builders do their thing.
