I was using (from the folder names) Embrasures, Kitchen Unit, the Map Gen Pack, Mech Turrets, and Project Armory.  I'm not seeing the log files, though.  Are they deleted at some point?  If I have a chance, I'll spin up a game with the in-game log up and see if I can't figure out what that error was.

Edit: Fired up Alpha 4 again with the same mods.  Seems to work fine.  I'll give this another shot when it's ready for Alpha 5 (assuming it's not already).  As an aside, RimWorld really doesn't like it when you switch back and forth between versions.

Not sure if I messed anything up, but, anytime I selected an entity added by this mod, my entire UI would bug out and make it nearly impossible for me to select anything.  The first time this happened, it seemed as though the mouse display was simply translated.  The second time, I was completely unable to select anything.  At this point, I decided it was more trouble than it was worth and uninstalled the mod.

As far as I can tell, no errors were thrown (at least, the debug console didn't show anything).  It's entirely possible that this was the result of something unrelated to the mod itself (e.g. corrupted files in my DL), but I figured I'd drop this in here on the off chance someone else has had a similar problem.

As a professional developer, this basically summarizes what I do on a day to day basis.  I take ideas that someone else has had and use it for myself.  I look at their code and figure out how they solved the problem and use that insight to solve my problem.  As a programmer, you are very rarely working on a problem that no one else has worked on.  It's quite common to run across code snippets that are, quite literally, exactly what you need.

That said, I think what you were trying to say was "They shouldn't, literally, copy-paste someone else's code into their project."  Here, I agree.  The reason is that you won't really learn anything about the code.  However, being able to see how someone else has solved a problem can help you solve your problem.

Will it help everyone?  Of course not.  Will people blindly copy your code and complain?  Of course, but fuck those people.  You're not trying to help everyone, you're trying to help the people that matter.  The people that will look at the code as a learning experience, not a rock to be thrown at the problem.

I wish[/] I had access to the source code for some of the mods I've been looking at.  I've found some really great features in a few mods that I know are added with dlls, but I either I don't want the entire mod just to get or aren't updated yet.

Let's be honest.  We're not writing Enterprise grade software here.  You're writing a tiny ass little mod.  You have nothing to lose by releasing your source, particularly if you use a format that can show you uploaded it first.

tl;dr if you think releasing your source code could help someone, you should.

I, too, was unprepared for the squirrelly onslaught.  My colony of Boatmurdered had survived pirates; 20 man raiding parties; a giant mechanical grub thing; not one, but two waves of psychotic Muffalo (~7 each); crop blight, and solar flares; only to be brought low by the squirrels.

Luckily, I had noticed the change in their behavior and managed to get everyone to the defenses.  At first, it was only a few and we managed to hold them.  I lost my first colonist to a stray bullet, but that was only the beginning.  Two more quickly fell as the squirrels overran the sandbags.  The rest retreated inside the colony, where the tighter corridors would limit the squirrels maneuverability.

Oh, what a mistake it was.

The squirrels, whipped into a frenzy by forces outside even our understanding, were only further incensed by the tight spaces.  They swiftly dispatched another colonist before spilling forth throughout the colony.  My last two colonist stood no chance.  They put up a brave but, ultimately, futile defense.

In the end, we were broken, bleeding, and starving.  Nothing could be done and I watched as my fellows slowly bleed and starved to death.
