Title: New version?
Post by: Bobthefarmer1 on November 14, 2013, 10:08:53 AM
Now, I'm just curious at when the new version is to be expected, not a solid date, Just a vaguely defined date like 2 weeks, a month or 2 months. Just curious at the frequency of updates if anything.

Patience, my young panda! Patience!

This post is dedicated to Firebox spelling corrections.

I do have patience, as I said I'm more curious at a schedule (if there is one) :P I'm still going to play it regardless as I enjoy it very much in it's current state.

Not super-soon, I'm afraid. I've been distracted by some non-dev stuff and I intend to make some deeper changes in the next version.

The way I interpreted the influencer tier was that we get access to the pre-Alpha version after the fundraiser ended, but that we wouldn't necessarily see any updates or patches besides critical ones (like fixing the major story teller bugs), or if Tynan is feeling generous, until the public alpha starts.

I wouldn't mind being wrong though ;)

Anxious for a new version, curious what's going to be added/change/fixed.

By now i have had a series of colonies and done everything in the game, survived with attacks with 30+ raiders with 15 colinsists, tried several defensives tactics etc.

I'm now filling time with Xcom and FTL, maybe even gonna try Jagged alliance for a change :)

Take your time on the updates.. I prefer large updates with several weeks in-between.
Mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to update my mods every week.

Well i hope he will get the audio system done and ready.
I am really looking forward to that. A good audio can make or break a game.

Well, I have to do the system, then Alistair has to actually go and do the work with the system. It'll be a while.

are you unfamiliar with the unspoken law of game forums, and the universal response to such questions?

You know what I think might be quite nice, though only If you had the time, would be to sketch up a lil dev tree of what u publically have announced u plan to do, and in a rough, but not final order, and just every couple months update it, maybe with a brief paragraph on what uve done, are currently working on, and what's new on the horizon (priorities that changed, new ideas you want to implement from urself or the community etc... But only the big stuff) just might be a nice lil way for us to check out your progress between releases on your blog or something...

And I think I forgot to say, no mention of estimated time frames, just as a disclaimer to my post lol

I believe Tynan already stated he does not plan a roadmap, or at least not so in near future.

Planning game design (at least with this kind of game) months in advance is like planning the exact positioning and angle of a shot in a soccer match 5 minutes before it happens. There's too much chaos between now and then. I stick to planning the next week :)

Right now I'm working on the audio authoring system. Which is starting to include some functionality of the general mod system; they may come together as a unit.

And so I've been told... Or whatever other expression you want to go for as I'm notorious for getting them wrong.

Ok, how about the non-futury parts of my suggestion... Which I feel a bit redundant saying as it will Probabaly crop in someway or another.

And Aah nice, I look forward to the modding (not for myself as I don't have the first idea where to start, but I do like to see what other people come up with alongside official development, plus who doesn't love audio.... Stuff)

Some good audio would be nice.  I have to ask, though:  what kind of audio are you going to be implementing?  I hope you're going to use an actual game music system, and not just the cheap mp3 player that Bethesda games use.  I've always hated it when developers choose the easy way out, making it harder for the rest of us to mod and make their system better.

Then again, a proper game music player would require multitrack files, which would preclude most small-time artists from modding the music, anyway.
