... you have managed to grow Devilstrand right before winter

Hydroponics?
Meh. I will do build them some time soon, but it was better to just spam them when I started the colony. I seriously doubt if I'd get that much devilstrand with hydroponics in the same amount of time. Later on, sure.
I know that feeling lol

It would be nice if you could heat or cool open-roofed areas, even if it is less effective, but it would need to consume quite a lot of power to keep it from removing most of the utility of hydroponics (speedy potatoes aside).
Technically you can. Just, as you said, it's woefully ineffective.
Drop a bunch of heaters in an enclosed space and you'll have the local temp rising.

Yes, that's true. Also, sun lamps are INCREDIBLY effective at heating up courtyards... I once did that on accident, not paying attentino when putting lights down. Next thing I know, the courtyard is nearly 200*F and several of my colonists boiled to death while harvesting cotton.
This thread got me thinking. I'd like to see crops that grow at different temperatures. Like devilstrand grows best at 100F+ or something. Just some change that makes farming more complicated.

I see what you did there.
Growing it in a cold biome could be amusing given the parka-touting colonists. You'd have to quarantine it after planting, until it's grown.
We'd need coatracks for colonists to hang their coats on when going in and out of places.

Crops actually have a range of temperatures they prefer. You could totally mod it in!
Rice should only be plantable in shallow water or marsh.

LOL dude. Just noticed this... this is gold. Thanks.
On a side note, the feeling is same with fresh harvested potatoes when your colony has almost starved:

That moment when you've finally got all of your colony's base outfits made out of devilstrand is very gratifying. It looks quite stylish too. Given how long it takes to amass any significant amount of hyperweave and how well apparel made from devilstrand sells (HELLO devilstrand parkas ;D), it's a worthy/fun time investment.
Devilstrand colonists is more or less around the point that my ship is ready to leave, heh.
