Should be extremely protective.
Cause, you know, pants only armor the legs...
Also, higher quality shoes should reduce dirt-tracking(less cleaning work)
Yay for shoes!
yes
Definitely, with movement speed penalties for knackered or non-existent shoes.

I'd like to have a way to prevent my colonist's toes from being shot off so I wouldn't have to replace the entire leg. Things like boots could probably help you move through muddy terrain. Maybe steel-toed boots would probably best regular thing to wear, but you can have the best protection with fully plated boots with movement speed penalty. +1 For abducting natives to work in shoe factories.
Frankly I prefer not bothering with shoes.
It's an acceptable break from reality and I have yet to hear Tynan do some sort of Wardrobe to be able to store complete clothes/armor set without spreading them on the ground over 10 square meter.
Keg... The feet are completely unprotected by anything but a shield.
Ah well, it's true the game still count them. But that can be balanced out for feet injury to be anecdotal.
Myself I never had colonist lose any feet so as long as it never get frustrating to not be able to protect them I still don't care and consider that an acceptable break from reality.
Especially before Tynan make some locker/wardrobe.
