If you think about it it could be possible with the multi-play guy's help. All that you would need to do is make a server and have the base game. You would have multiple bases on one map that is randomly generated at the start of the server. After that instead of having one giant map you could have the smaller portions of the map set up so you have to choose a group of colonists to send out and scavenge, loot, hunt, or raid. the people that have bases set up on the server will be able to be put into an AI mode where the AI of the game controls the pawns of the defender, or the defender can be protected by a friend. If the Defender is online then they can control their pawns. P.S. i actually had posted something about this a while ago but that was before this was even close to possible.

Really, this would still not be very possible or at least easy. Would be quite difficult, because you have to take mechanics that made the game for one "God" aka the player from above, and make it fit multiple, make it so each has their own resources, stockpiles, different areas, same speed, just... Not easy.
