at present we have rough wooden plank flooring, steel tile flooring, concrete flooring, and rock tile flooring. Also can smooth the natural rough rock floors.
I suggest we expand upon those in the following way.
Keep the present flooring, with the +1 beauty, but reduce walk speed to 90% from 100%. These are rough uneven surfaces. Concrete stays at -1 beauty, but has a 100% walk speed.
Add a smooth floor option to ALL flooring, increasing beauty by 1, and increasing walk speed to 100. We now have smooth wooden, or tile floors. Concrete floors would become neutral beauty at this point.
Add a polished floor option to all flooring including the natural rock floors, increase beauty again by 1, and increase walk speed to 105%
Don't forget carpets. I suppose they might slow movement by a miniscule amount but increase beauty and maybe even have a minute comfort buff.
105%? You want the polished floors to have colonists walk faster then their full walking speed? And the floors, when floor'd with wood and such, aren't all rough uneven surfaces. Your wooden floors in your house isn't bent everywhere, rough. And smoothing, smoothing takes forever. It takes a ton of time to smooth, in the early game you can barely do it.
Smoothing is great for your construction skill, though. Because there are no breaks to fetch materials, it becomes a constant experience task.

read the description of the wood floor in the game, ruff wooden planks....
they are NOT what we have in homes today. They need to sanded, smoothed and finished to match what we have today.
And the brick tiles from stone are ruff, with many trip, stumble points.
And this is NOT about early game needs, but upgrading your base as time passes.
Again go and read the stats on the colonists, they can do many things over 100%.
Walking speed is reduced by clothing.
Huh. Well, I just got my ass handed to me, I guess I have nothing more to say.

Don't feel too bad; I got mine handed to be by a bunch of psychotic squirrels (in-game, of course :-)
But yeah, at first reading, it does sound a bit counter-intuitive, to have floor type increase movement above 100%.
Then I thought about ice... wouldn't it be hilarious if certain surfaces in cold biomes froze over in Winter, causing >100% movement? Colonists constantly overshooting their targets and having to loop back, slipping, falling over, etc.
We'd have to research ice skates ;)
+1 but 105% only on advanced floors (and expensive).

having to build the floor first, then take the time to smooth the floor, then take even more time to polish the floor, yea, that makes it expensive.
