Title: Social Decisions
Post by: VideoMakerGuy on July 21, 2015, 02:28:01 AM
(This is a large feature idea.)

I had an idea to add camping to the game, campfire, tents, the works. But then I thought that maybe for joy and such, you could have decisions for the player to make. Allow me to elaborate. Say your playing the game, as usual. But you see that your colonists are depressed by the death of another colonist or somthing. So you go to the "Colonist Management Tab" (Possibly, not sure where this stuff could be located) and you select Camping Trip. Your colonists then finish what there doing, grab food, wood, cloth(or tents) and whatever else they could need and go out away from their home region and literally just camp. Or they could possibly wait till the next day and leave at dawn and return at dawn the next day, and so on. Their are many ways that could be defined, such as selecting which colonists are aloud to participate, how far away they can go, maybe limit the decision to the forest biomes. Many different ways this could be taken. Which gets me thinking of another decision that could be made, The Party, where the colonists stay indoors, eat and drink, talk, play chess and billards and so on, for maybe a night or a whole day or however it could be constructed. Both of these decisions giving the colonists HUGE boosts to there joy and overall mental state, not just while there doing it, but as somthing to remember for days to come, slowly wearing off. This would also give the sculptures more things to be, such as a sculpture of that time we went camping and fought off the grizly bear or somthing like that. And this could be expanded upon immensely, with tons of new decisions and possibly even being able to invite other factions over for said party or whatever else could be conceived. However I am not sure how difficult this would be to construct so I figured I'd throw it out there and hope that somthing in this was a good idea, thx for the read.

Modification: Another decision I thought of is allowing your colonists to go visit another friendly colony just as they visit you. So many opportunities.

Eh... camping just in order to raise joy activity seems kinda useless. Tents wouldn't work as structures because they'd have to be at least 3x3 for the way rimworld works and then it would be easier to make an actual structure, and in the event of a raid it would be a pain in the ass to have your colonists all camping on the other side of the map, with the raiders inbetween. I get what you want, large joy activities, but just eh, doesn't seem to fit into the game.

For the tents, you could make it a 1x1 and just have the layer for the tent above the layer on which colonists are, and have it to where colonists could walk into it and then sleep and it would count as sleeping on a bed or something like that, and the whole point of a tent is for it to be put up quickly and taken down quickly. As for a raid, that would be the risk you are taking for the amount of joy you could get from the decision, and you can think of it anyway you want, if you see it as useless, it is a decision to be made, so you don't have to use it, and I for one would find it immensely helpful because I always have problems with my colonists being on the verge of a mental break, especially with the new toxic fallout event, which kills all of the animals and then you have tons and tons of rotting corpses around when the event ends. And the idea itself isn't all about camping, that is just an example of one of the many decisions that could be made, like I mentioned in the post a decision for a party, or possibly a decision for your colonists to go visit another friendly colony just as they visit you. Their are so many possibilities with this, and again, they would be completely optional if you thought they were useless.

Eh, just doesn't seem to fit. And a 1x1 tent would be too small for even a colonist, as they'd need it to be at least 1x2, and by then it's kinda pointless when there's the sleeping spots. What would it cost to make one too? It would have to be good enough to make it worth it to use instead of actual beds or just sleeping spots.

Not pointless at all, because the entire point for all of this, is for it to be automated, you click the decision and your colonists go do it, and when they return they are filled with joy for days to come. And as for the tent, sleeping spots get slept on ground penalty and so on, but with tents they could be to where the colonists are "indoors" when they are sleeping in the tent, and at a good 70F and not sleeping on the ground, as well as the tent would be one of the things that they carry with them to go camping, it would be basically pre-made and then they just plop it down, but you raise a good point, that they could camp with sleeping spots if you don't have tents in your stockpile, but again, this is all an example of 1 of the many possible decisions that could be made and also they would be completely optional so if you or anyone else thinks ehhhh, then you can just ignore it.
