When is the next update going to be out of curiosity?

Short Answer: Soon (TM)
Long Answer: No one knows until Tynan posts something about it. The last time he mentioned it was that it would be sometime in January 2014. Other than that, can't help you.
Sometime in 2014 is a safe bet to assume.
I doubt it will take long.
There is a nice list of things to come in the next update.
Because of the holidays its going a bit slower family blablabla d-;
But i know that tynan is working hard on some much anticipated features.

Some modding, though not a complete system. Not sure what exactly will be moddable on the first pass.
Stockpile storage; no more magical StarCraft-style resource pool in the sky. E.g. your food can burn, and you need somewhere to store it.
Complete redo on character graphics.
Storyteller portraits.
Some early snatches of Alistair's sounds.
And, as always, shiny new bugs!

Well there goes my whole system for automated trade delivery, now I'll need to actually cart it to a safe location.
Yessss isnt it awsome d-;
Very good, especially the modding part.
Now for the really important question: How hard will it be to add cats via mod? =3

Hmm Shiny Bugs, taste like chicken!
Say Ty any chance of a list of whats being worked on for the next update kinda like you did in that post you know kinda like this.
Graphical Updates (Finished)
Sound overhaul Version 1 (Finished)
Custom sountrack (Finished, to be intergrated)
More and mixed Biomes (Being Programmed)
Modding system Interface Mk 1 (Unfinished)
Character Perks System (Unfinished)
Its a nice way to keep us informed and stir up some interest and excitement.
One thing that I just though of was a kind of After Action Report that detales what happened in the colony, and when it happeded, such as buildings built, People recruited, Raiders Killed, Colonists to die and how.
Just a hardcopy of events for the fanfiction writers 8D
Just seen the new portrait for Cassandra Classic it's really amazing and i love it! By the way i have a premonition about a cyber heavy Randy Random; i am right or not?
I hope the mod support will be good, because the game at the stage mainly lack of content, and even if the upcoming update seems nice, it's not about real content (portraits, sounds... are not really gameplay content).

Well, those are just the things that are easy to post on the blog. Don't worry, I've been adding gameplay functionality as well.
I'm hoping deeper research so we can unlock better stuff like batteries, solar panels, perhaps new ways of power..

What kind of threats do you plan on adding later in the games development? Any chance of diseases, bounty hunters or other things like that?
People keep talking about how there will be no aliens and then others say there will be aliens. Whats the truth in the matter, Tynan? Will there be parasitic aliens like Xenomorphs or "The Thing" in the game? Or no aliens in general? Also, you mentioned a while back that Firefly was an inspiration... ever intend to include Reavers into the game (these would be a bit more depraved and nasty than regular raiders)?

There are no aliens. See the docs for more info: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pIZyKif0bFbBWten4drrm7kfSSfvBoJPgG9-ywfN8j8/pub (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pIZyKif0bFbBWten4drrm7kfSSfvBoJPgG9-ywfN8j8/pub)
I can't put Reavers in, exactly, for copyright reasons, but you could have the idea of a more psychotic kind of raider. However, there are some logical issues with this. Reavers always bothered me because their style of existence obviously isn't sustainable as an ongoing subculture. What do they eat? Where do they get fuel? How do they maintain and run complex machinery like starships? If we did psychotics they'd probably be smaller, temporary groups of recently-formed crazypeople.
Also, let's please keep these topics on their topic. If you want another question answered, start another topic!
Thanks for the link.

They eat people, they're crazy and lost their humanity, but clearly still have the knowledge to modify their ships to run them to the point of not being safe to themselves. Also, they mounted and use weapons such as EMP weapons that wouldn't typically be used
Any fuel/food they need that isn't from what they raid could easily be from the planet that they were from. It had food/fuel for 1000 x the number of reavers that were made, so during their reaver lifespans, it's possible for them to not starve to death. Though they know where planets are if they get hungry.
That being said, reavers are not self sustaining and should die out someday.
Unless, perhaps, they can re-engineer the pax and gas another planet.
Just a thought.
So....there isn't the slightest hint when the next update is going to be revealed?
Well hopefully the game will have much more content then, because it's terribly lacking.
Craft the World would be a good game to study in this respect.

Craft the World would be a good game to study in this respect.
Release will be in next two weeks up to a month from now, from what Tynan said.
As for CtW... one, it was greenlighted in August, so it has a huge head start. Two, from what I can see it suffers from typical for these games "+1 = new" syndrome. I really hope we'll get something more interesting that "a wild solar flare starts! now a completely different raging solar flare begins! This one is different too, because it's a mega solar flare!" type of new content. And I'm pretty darn sure this will be the case. But these things take time, and as such, shouldn't be expected of a very early pre-alpha builds.
The game is not "lacking", it's "incomplete" ;)
Side note: CtW's AI makes DF dorfs look like total geniuses.
CtW - never heard of it, I'll have to check it out, thanks.

............I said it'd be a good game to study to get an idea of what kind of content to include. I.E. the many varieties of wall types, dozens of pieces of furniture, articles of clothing.
I didn't say he should compete with CtW because it's such a great game. Why is everything a fucking competition in this goddamn culture.

No-one mentioned competing with anyone, so chill out there. Quite the opposite, I said I would like to see quite opposite development process.
And yeah, "more types of walls" is exactly the concept I was speaking off. I would rather see more new features than reskins of reskins - but this is my personal preference.

I believe articles of clothing are in fact on the todo list. (found out from tynans twitter)
Btw Tried chill callie instead of cassandra recently, got to day 43 i believe, it gets very exciting in the end with callie, you know when you die. I still like cassandra better.
Lots of clothing is in the game now. However, you can't actually manipulate it yet - it's just spawned as part of the character and stays with them forever.

Woud be nice if you could loot some of the more interesting clothing from raiders that you kill.

I agree - I just have to see if I'll have time to do that before the update.
armor?
You just make me more and more excited every time you mention things you are going to add.
Does that include leather armor? Like a Gimp suit? Or more practical armor, like a Mad Max Leather Jacket?
Are reactors going to be in this update, so it would consume uranium but make like 10000 power :)
that would be neat because then you would need to rely on industrial traders to power your base and such.
also (couldn't help myself :P ) meltdowns when it breaks, or a story event...
or really any other way of getting power would be nice (it's hard to run 30 turrets on solar :( )

Perhaps not a insta meltdown event, but how about a smaller event leading up to a meltdown if not fixed?
Like a leak? and if not fixed will lead to a big boom :)
Or a reactor coolant pump malfunction (it exploded and parts scatter around the place that you need to pickup and put back)
I'm really Not a fan of the solar flare type events where you are completely powerless to change it, or defend yourself against it.
I like that, you could try to prevent a reactor explosion.
That would make a very neat story.
If implemented well.

definitely agree with you, maybe it could need to be manned or something and if its not manned you will have no idea if these things are happening to it. otherwise I like your idea ,maybe not the parts going EVERYWHERE but ya...
Nuclear reactors and nuclear bombs are two distinctly different things. The former do not explode any more than the latter would be useful for powering a light-bulb.
Wait no more magical stock piles WELL THEN THEY BETTER BE FREE OF METAL NOW!
They will be free (But you didn't hear that from me) ;)

While they may not explode, a nuclear Meltdown is equally lethal, just over a longer time period.
