Title: Is there a way to get a copy of an older version of the game?
Post by: Ataris on September 16, 2015, 11:27:10 PM
I just bought the game a couple of days ago, but want to play with some mods. It seems, though, that all the mods I want to toy around with are for version 11b - which I can't seem to pick up anywhere.

Is there any way to legitimately get an older version?

Everything is legitimate if you don't follow law.

The current version is where all the mods will be at for a long while, since Tyv is taking some time off. It'll take them some time to catch up though.

so that means tynan changes the links so we can't just reuse the alpha 11 (or whichever) link from old emails?

hmm..... i wonder how much effort that thing that allowed you to re-download old minecraft versions from mojang took to create, not that i could code my way out of a paper bag.

but if they go un-hosted when out of date not really viable anyway.

I'm pretty sure that downloading pirated of the game when you bougth the game isn't pirating.
Tho, i'm not really sure about this, but i'm sure that Tynan said somewhere that he is ok with people downloading pirated old versions of the game.

Not sure where you got that idea from.  Your download link will always be the same and will always have the most recent public release.  Every SendOwl email you get will contain your exact same download link.  (It's recommended to bookmark that, by the way.)  When a new release is made public, the older version is replaced and is no longer available for download.  There is no legitimate way to download an older version.

Mhmh... It looks that you can't download older versions :S Anyway it's easier to just google it rather than search forum for that stuff, but rules are rules.
