Title: Looters instead of Raiders?
Post by: GhostxxxShadow on January 12, 2014, 01:44:46 AM
Why are the raiders so ferocious and bloodthirsty?

The raiders/looters should rather make way to the stockpile and steal EVERYTHING, killing everyone that stands in the path(ignoring the pacifists). Once they are done they will just walk out and leave the civilians alone. The civilians will then die of starvation if they are unable to grow food fast enough.

Also, please implement thieves/traitors, who would just join the colony, steal some resource and make a run for the edge of the map.

Short answer i don't like the first part of your post at all.

Long answer.
If the traitors kill people and destroy things once they get to the armory (because they are sleeper agents ) then yes i like the idea of thieves and traitors.
Thieves should simply steal resources if caught they fight like a normal raider. Or run away.

In later versions (since the stockpile system has been revamped to be basically the dwarf fortress system)
the raiders will steal alongside destroying  everything and killing everybody. :P

I like the fact that raiders attack and destroy everything and kill everybody.

And you can easily defend against them late game with minefields and traps (rooms filled to the brim with turrets.)

Raiders should stay bloodthirsty and ferocious.

Why would they ignore colonists without weapons, they could have money on them.

I like to think of the raiders as sort of barbarians. Trying to steal everything every colony has right down to the metal in their structures. And killing all survivors.

Going a little offtopic here: My graveyard is getting full with a bit less than 30 corpses. Is there a way to burn them or eat them  :o ?

I believe you can:

Heres a post on the "insufferable fires" thread, i haven't tried to burn them..but...

Fire bothered me as well, but then, I started to enjoy it:

The fact that invaders follow highways is actually pretty usefull. You know where to place the mines.

This is a great idea.

Different groups of attackers should have different objectives. Killing everyone and taking over the colony, stealing anything they can or capturing people to sell as slaves. Colonists should also go rogue, when their loyalty is low they should join the attacking raiders or sabotage the colony by destroying important infrastructure, or stealing something and running away.

Some conflicts should be possible to avoid of course, by giving away resources, weapons or people as slaves.

I'm pretty sure Tynan already considers most or all of these for the future implementation.
