Hey all, I'm in the 77th Day of a Volcanic Winter here, how long do they last??? Its even told me its 'summer' but its still to cold to really grow anything... Am I missing something? Do I need to complete a task to end it?
QuoteA distant supervolcano has erupted and begun spewing millions of cubic kilometers of ash into the atmosphere.
Ash in the atmosphere will obscure the sun. Temperatures will drop and plants will suffer for lack of sunlight. It could pass in a few weeks, or it might last many months.
It can be anywhere from 15 to 80 days.
Losing is fun!
Hopefully it shouldn't continue any longer than that 80th day, If it does though, post the save. :)
Hmmm, I have had it last longer than 80 days (in my current game, it went up to 91 days before I decided to force it to stop) if it goes beyond that then you can simply edit the save file. If you need help on that just ask :)
^ Were you running any mods? That shouldn't happen in vanilla.

Couldn't you use debug mode?
...I'm having fun with a Volcanic winter on my save, found a seed on the forums with a spot that's winter temperature is -139 F
I'm almost positive it's gotten /warmer/ during the Volcanic Winter.
Back when we were testing the toxic fallout, a bug kept it going forever and I actually had a lot of fun keeping my people in a mountain fortress desperately mining metal to make hydroponics.

I had one start in February and end in September, 100% stock. It can definitely last longer than 80 days. Luckily it was an ice base and I was growing everything indoors anyways.

Months are 10 days long. If its started Feb 1st and ended Sept. 10th....that would be 80 days. Feb, March, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sept - 8 monthsx10 days each
oooo
i need to start playing rimworld again
iv yet to experience a volcanic winter :D
only thing i've never experienced is an agent. do they still happen on A12d?
Might be a bit late, but no, they do not happen any more, they were deactivated shortly after they were added, for a few reasons, they are still in the game files should you wish to reactivate them however. the incident chance is just 0. :)
I'm @ 97 days and all my crops are dead. Very little food. Very little animals and no trees in the vicinity.
If it goes on any longer. My colony will die.
Cannot buy anything. No Silver. Spent all to keep my colony with food.
'
Is hydroponics still a thing?
in a pinch you can also dig up graves and butcher the bodies. bodies don't decay in graves. They're like cryptosleep for dead things!
Volcanic Winter is now @ 120 days. Hit with a cold snap -143 degrees. Colonists have Hypothermia and dying.
No food, Animals and Silver.
Disaster!!!!

really, are you counting actual game days, or saying it has been 4 months? a month is 10 days on the rim.
There are 10 days to a Rimworld month. So I've had a Volcanic winter for 1 year. If there are 12 month to a Rimworld year.
Just another example of how RimWorld was secretly inspired by the Donner Party and Jamestown.
Whaaaat 1 month is 10 days.... What a revelation, now I need to think differently...
My Vulcan winter started 1st November, now it's June I think or may. So it last 70-80 days and it will end soon? It's fun, it allowed me to expand my base, resources coz I don't need to care about food and plants. Now they work for food 😀. Just to survive, like me... 😄
I'm using hardcore modpack syndicat.
Nice! The longest Volcanic Winter I have had was like 4 or 5 game months.
Go canibal (joywire ppl). Eat the growers if they are useless ;D

Using SK as well. I think VW and toxic fallout last much longer in it. Mine lasted 13 rim-months (130 days) and then I turned it off from console because it hadn't ended.
How to turn it off? And if I turn it off will it come later again? I don't won't to shut it down forever it would be cheating.

Open developers mode, click the debug actions menu, click the end map condition button, select the condition you want to end... will not prevent the volcanic winter from returning.
