I myself had an oscar award winning brawl with the newly added bear which was rather hungry, other than losing my colonist who faught bravely with a shoddy shiv, colony progression is going smoothly.
i crash landed in the frozen tundra :( A polar bear slowly picked off colonists , i resorted to eating thier corpses , i didnt make it to winter:(
I made so many fuel generators that the wood in the world ended.
Seriosly, it was worse than 50 Alphabeavers
Heh, i cull predators for this reason, ESPECIALLY before winter, both to keep small game around, and to prevent hunger attacks.
Im working on creating an animal powered corpse disposal room, so much more efficient than burn rooms, and less issues from butchering humans.
I discovered that pets cause major mood penalties when killed, scrapped my plans to build a normal healthy temperate forest outpost, and started hunting for the nearest ice sheet to colonize.
i died to a prison break...i made a thread about it...it was seriously unbelievable...
My permadeath colony, which went very well for the first one or two seasons and had 4 colonists, ended suddenly when one colonist was killed by a frag grenade; his lover went berserk, fought a boar, and lost; a third colonist died of malaria; the second one died from infection from the boar fight; and the last one was kidnapped by pirates.
I'm not any closer to deciding whether I like permadeath or not, but I've learned some lessons about attack priorities and the importance of bed rest. Time to start a new colony!

on my phobe base i have a room I can herd my pigs into and they dispose of my corpses for me , its pretty cool.
Well I had my first lovers, sadly that didnt last long, not even an ingame hour. An insult to the 3rd colonist turned into a fight, which ended with loverboy having his torso punched to a pulp. Loverboy wasnt even a second on the floor when pet boar Smaug decided to stroll into the room and bite his frickin head off! ;D
The whole ordeal was so absurd, I laughed tears for like 5 minutes. To top it all off, the pet my lovergirl decided to bond with, yorkshire terrier Murderous, had his neck bitten off by a cougar. Having lost her lover and her pet, it didnt take long for her to go berserk, down my other colonist and die of infections after, because she and her boyfriend were my only medics. Thus ended my first alpha 13 colony. ;D
So I can add that to my list of reasons not to have pets in my colony:
"Pet may bite off head of fellow colonist"
To clarify, loverboy was already dead on the floor, and Smaug decided to have a bite, before he gets cold, you know ;D The boar didnt finish him off.
Oh, what killed him then? did your other colonists actually beat him to death? That's... well, wow, that's taking a relationship way too seriously :)
New rainforest colony. Great starting point, thriving, letting the Cobras kill the monkeys (so many simian deaths) and ninja stealing the corpses.
Three man raider band show up. One of them with a blue hat, shooting skill 12, with a survival rifle , proceeds to not miss a single shot and puts down my happy band.
I suspect the Cobras hired him.
New colony, Jungle.
This villager arrived and joined our colony. This fat guy kept trying to romance one of my starting colonist.
Then a trader group arrived. I found out that his wife was there and checked what he thought of her.

I can understand why.
Well so far I've had that special moment when a three pack of Raiders right at the start of the colony shows up carrying a triple missile launcher... That was a fun few seconds.
But the key moment so far has been the prison break. I was still at the stage of having one large room to store weaponry and put the sleeping spots in with a small wooden shed for the prisoner.
The prisoner waits until everyone is in their sleeping spot then picks the lock. Dashes into the only room I have grabs a weapon.
He picked frag grenades.
That was a 50p/5p moment I can tell you. Luckily the weapon stockpile was right next to the beds so everyone managed to rush him and batter the prisoner to submission.
mixed day for me, i have a colony of men atm (not through trying) and the only gay guy in it is having a bad time.
First he's shunned by the others, then a bear kills his beloved cat. He went mental, leaping at the bear with his knife.... After 4 hours the epic stuggle ended, though he was victorious, he'd lost his nose, he went to bed thinking what else could go wrong
6 hours later, his room was infested with insects :D
Tried to reproduce a 'bug' reported over on reddit. Not a bug. Reported back to reddit that it's not a bug.
I made a colony, myself, my ex, and my best friend. I then recruited someone who would become another friend.
My best friend ended up marrying my ex, died the next day in a shootout with mechanoids. Few days later, she gets engaged to the other friend. Few days later, killed in a raid. My char gets rejected on romance advancements the entire time up until he's killed. My ex runs the base alone. She's got a beautiful trait, my character had a chemical interest trait and was drunk constantly.
Thanks for keeping it close to home Tynan.

This is honestly why I love seeing stories about play-throughs, reading this made my day. I haven't laughed that hard in a while.
Today in RimWorld;
I setup my computers so that both my work and home desktops have synced folders for RimWorld, with a system to keep old builds installed and running. (Currently just a modded A12d and A13)
Finally gave A13 a whirl after above mentioned config-ing! Very nice so far! Only thing I had to look up was fueling the stove in my first attempt.
Started new game with random characters. Less than5 min in: message about someone getting killed. Oh, it's the yorkshire terrier pet getting eaten by a cobra. Pet owner gets into mental breakdown walks in a daze out of the base and gets eater by a cougar.
Another colonist goes into mental breakdown over the death, and he gets into a daze, manhunter event spawns and get killed by a manhunter monkey.
The final colonist has no combat skill, no cooking skill, so he is doomed to starve. All in the first 3 days.

I have never thought about doing that, but I don't think my boss would approve of Rimworld over my actual job lol.

There are certainly days where it is good to be the boss, lol. Other days, not so much!

Well, remember, I said it was good to be the boss, not the employee! They don't have it quite so nice! Although still not bad.
I tried something new today. I ran out of food in my extreme desert (forgot that potatoes don't grow so fast in gravel, and not much out there to hunt) so I butchered and ate the raider who tried to attack us with a knife. -16 mood penalty for eating cooked people. Ouch. I don't think my colony is going to last long now.
[edit] Or maybe they're going to make it. I can confirm that lovers will get it on in a double bed with a nice mood bonus. No, there's no exciting graphics, just z's replaced by hearts. So Rimworld remains the family-friendly game where you can kill your enemies, butcher them, eat them, and wear their skin as a hat. But no sex to scare little Johnny!
Today i almost threw my pc out the window.
My 9 colonists got killed by a single triplelauncher shot.
I went into dev mod put the biggest immediate attack on my base and proceeded to strike the enemy with lightning.
i decided to show the insects why its a bad decision to come to me by reducing the temp of the heaters in the room they showed up from 21 to -129C when the outside temp was -120C .Froze them all to death in 20hrs while i locked the door for my colonists. Froze those bugs to death when i only had a shotgun and the starting guns as modern weapons. Also helped to kill the 3 spiders when they were 60% frozen by shotguns. Just had to turn my dining room into an emergency sleeping spot barrack.

This is why savescumming exists.
Also mod editing. I removed triplelaunchers from my a12; I'll probably do the same to a13 if I get that far.

But... butchering people etc. doesn't have "exciting graphics" either?
On-topic: What am I doing in RimWorld today? Regretting putting my colony in the jungle.

He's having a bad
day week month season.
edit: and three other colonists just got malaria. Current count out of 6 colonists: 3 malaria, 2 fibrous mechanites, 2 gut worms, 1 sleeping sickness (almost immune), 1 now-immune flu.
Haha, someone got hit hard ^^ Only had muscle parasites til now, half the colony is down with it, big manipulation malus, luckily most of them brawlers so they should be fine.
I opened my 3rd beacon stockpile today, to put all the nice parkas somewhere in case that one trader shows up. But he never comes :'( At that rate im gonna need a new storehouse.
lol, jungles sound like they're pretty rough now. I'll give that a swing after I try out north :)

A13.1
- Extreme deserts removed from game due to lack of difference.
- Deserts now have more variation in arable land to cover the removed extreme desert.
- Jungle biome renamed to "extreme jungle"
