As fearsome as Thrumbos are, there's an easy way to kill them - once they fall asleep, build a small structure around them, and wait for it to die of malnutrition. This way you can also keep it on the map if you want to try taming one since it will inevitably take numerous attempts.
I would almost say this is an exploit considering the resources a Thrumbo gives - and belittles what I'm certain Tynan was aiming for with the entire endgame creature persona.
Hit and run also works as Thrumbos are really slow.
Slow? They move faster than colonists! :o

I use charm, ;p
i've been luring thrumbos and playing ping pong to kill them.
i shoot them at extreme range, run to my base and hop in a doorway. Then i have a melee colonist come out another door....mouse over the thrumbo. when it starts moving towards the melee guy, have all the shooters come out the door and open fire.
When the thrumbo gets near the melee, he runs inside the door...as it retargets the shooters, then moves toward them, they run inside their door again....repeat until dead.

It depends. Just last night I had a regular pawn kite one in a circle around three shooters. Never once got hit, it was considerably easier than kiting a raider.
