Title: Level 20 skills no longer permanent?
Post by: Rahjital on April 15, 2016, 01:23:28 PM
I just had my level 20 doctor and constructor get up from bed after a malaria outbreak, and their skills seem to have dropped to 19 in the meantime. I was under the impression that lvl 20 skills are supposed to stay that way forever once you achieved. Has that changed recently?

Yeah, I noticed that. Feels more realistic in that you can't get a colonist level 20 in everything now. However, I don't like the implications. I go back to work after a week off and I do feel like I've forgotten everything but it all comes back. I'm pretty sure a doctor could diagnose appendicitis even if he didn't practice for forty years. And I know people who haven't drawn in a decade who have gotten better. I can't think of a solution, though.

Tynan stated earlier that he thought level 20 skills did decay previously.  He certainly implied that it was meant to.  Basically I think he just patched up a bug that we all assumed was a feature.

Aw, what a shame. It's basically pointless to have specialists now, since the xp drain at high levels is so ridiculously fast. You can have a colonist go to bed as lvl 20, and wake up lvl 19.

Easy fix suggestion. Save max skill colonist has had, when below that max they gain xp 2x as fast. Perhaps also cap loss to max-5 or something.

i was so fed up with the overnight skill loss that i use the madskills tiered mod to block skills from down lvling.
