((This is the introduction for a Roleplay style world I am planning.  Will be updating this as the world and story progresses from a first person journal point of view so will post as events of interest happen.  I wanted to try a more criminal play with the new social system and complexity so decided to random generate three psychopaths to run from.  Difficulty is Randy set to Rough))

The escape went off without a hitch.  I don't know how Emmie was able to do it.  From what Mal said, Emmie started talking to the guard, and next thing she knew, the Worg took the throats out of the guards for the wing.  Killed them and didn't even wrinkle their clothing.

Fortunately was able to wash the blood out before it set.  Good thing it was synthread, not even slightest hint of a stain.  I did some work with makeup, Emmie took up "Starlight's" lead and we walked right out passed everybody.  Went right on into the engine room, set them to blow and escaped with everybody else as the alarms went off.

Looks like we landed in a pretty ugly environment.  Ugh is it hot and humid here.  Landed near right on top of some geothermal activity didn't help either.  Judging by how damp the ground is and the size of the trees in this forest, will need shelter fast before the bugs come out.  Best be getting to work I guess.  Looks like there is an old stone structure nearby we might be able to make use of.

Huh.  that is a wierd looking creature.  Some herd of what looks like deer, but they have these buldging bald sections along their backs.  Kinda funny looking things.  Wonder what they taste like...

Well, hopefully we can make contact with Mal's brother who runs The Criminologist's Tree.  Their faction HQ has a town set up on this planet.  Is why we chose to escape  to this dustbin.  Seems like none of us actually know how to use a gun so hopefully we can get the supplies we need.  We might be in trouble if we actually have to fend for ourselves.

Been here a couple days.  Going by the sun, I am guessing we landed right at the middle of winter... if you can even call it winter.  This planet is supposed to have a 120 day solar cycle so that would put today to be about the 13th.

Still no word from the Criminalists.  Work is hard and the environment is dangerous.  Day in we must always be on the lookout for snakes, and at night kept awake by the howling of monkies.  No way am I going out to kill anything unless I darn well need it.  In a bit of humor, we started calling this place Microton in honor of how the stress is weighing us down.

Fortunately, naivety saves the day, and nearly ended it.  Couple of primitive tribeswomen came strolling by.  "Kettu" as Mal likes to be called, thought we could probably put them to work and thought could "convince" them to work for us.  They didn't take kindly to that.  Even fighting two on one, they nearly knocked both of us out.  Damn I am going to be sore tonight.  Well, it is just a matter of time til they see things our way.  If not, am sure there is somebody else out there who can break them.  Only problem is we locked them in our room, so I guess we better build a new room for them before night falls.

Amazing what some shoddy construction can do for a person.  Show them a roof and a bit of food, those savages practically asked to join us.  So hard working, we can practically sit back and just enjoy the fruits of their labour.

It is like people just want to come and work for us.  After weeks of nothing much more than construction and eating, we started hearing shouts in the distance.  Some woman comes on the short range looking for anybody to help her.  Apparently the local pirate cartel is after her.  We got guns and cover, so offer assistance.  Can always use more help and pirates usually have something of use.

That is when things get wierd.  This person asking for help comes running out of the jungle completely butt naked.  Aside from the radio, not a thing to her.  Well, cannot even call it running.  I know people that can walk faster than this slowpoke.  She takes cover in the garden as we sneak out to ambush the lone pirate pursuing her and are able to incapacitate her.

Turns out Ms. Meyers is just one of them spoiled brats who thinks a bit of money can make the world go round.  At the far end of her teens, she decided wanted to run a ranch.  Looking, I don't think has done a hard day of work in her life or even knows how to carry something.  We decided to just toss her in the back room, maybe we can get some good coin for her.

The pirate, Aerin, on the other hand looks to be somebody we can use.  Eyes of a killer if I ever have seen.  Just need to figure out what makes her tick and will have somebody who will lay down the law.

Criminalists finally showed up shortly after.  Hopefully can get some better business going here soon.  Red, one of the tribespeople we "recruited" also appears to have caught the plague...

Turns out it was a good thing we took in those other folks.  Shortly after my last entry, the entire camp came down with some disease reminiscent of Malaria.   During which, Red and I seemed to have gotten some sort of mechatoid nanite invasion into our muscles, hurts like a damn....

They told me they thought for sure that Mal was going to die....  That rancher did succumb, but it was her own fault.  Kept having temper tantrums and starting fights meaning we had to treat her injuries before we could address the disease.  On top of that, we consumed the last of our med supplies and spent all our silver aquiring more.  Actually, when I think about it, the new recruits didn't really save us.

They contracted it first and we used most of it keeping them alive and was none for us when we got sick...  Not a total loss, we could use some more kibble around here.

What a horrendous environment to live in.  Summer of torture.  While we have seasons, it is difficult to actually call them a season.  I hate this place.  Yes, resources are plentiful, but hostile wildlife and disease is rampant.  I would have rather landed the desert or in the freezing arctics compared to here.  The jungle, while a good source of building material also has it's drawbacks.  Tribespeople constantly using it for cover as they raid us.

Some clearing and barriers will probably be needed to help us stay alive.  Each attack being more brazen.  I have laid out a plan for some more secure buildings.  Something solid and stone to fall back for as our newcomers hold the line for us.

To try and make allies with the locals, we have resorted to being 'nice' even.  Healing up and sending back their wounded who have tried to kill us.  Not for free though.  We did have to remove some 'damaged' organs to save their lives.  Also helps cover their medical bills.

The newcomers complained a bit, but we make sure they know whose in charge.

Serves us right for getting complacent.

Build a new prison out of steel and concrete.  Somebody lets slip the codes for the door and they try to escape.  Big brawl proceeds and at the end of it all, is just me left standing to patch everybody up.

Next time, I will shoot first, ask questions later.  I'm not any doctor...

Fall was a relatively quiet month.  No significant raids or even traders.  The only thing to really stop by were a few pigs that seem quite adjusted to humans.

Looks like we are about to face a new threat.  We were excavating looking for both steels and to lay foundation for a barn for the pigs.  During the night, noises began to come from the cave we had just dug out.  Turns out this planet holds some new secrets.  Large insects located within.

In the morning, looks like we got ourselves a bug hunt...

YEAR ONE IN REVIEW

Journal of Samuel Redmen

DATE: 11th Winter 5501
LOCATION: Microton

It has been one year since we crashed down here.  Progress has been good.  Got shelter, got food, and most importantly, got weapons.  Got together for a party and photo at midnight in the medbay.  Seems like an odd choice, but with Mal down due to plague... again, and Cai... well she is down due to plague and some weird sleeping sickness, didn't have much of a choice...

Nobody even calls Mal by her last name, so I think is about time we make Mal her official nickname.  We still don't know Cai's name.  Just that it is Cai.  No first, no last.

We learned a fair bit in this first year.  The most important being that a sniffle is more dangerous than a raider wielding a triple rocket launcher.  Sickness has come close to killing us a few times and had killed others.  It was a wakeup call the first time to build a proper medical bay.  We need to get some research done and see if we can get some better treatment equipment or proper medical beds.

Another interesting event was when these funny rodents came in chasing us down.  We learned the hard way to be sure to lure them away from the buildings before shooting them.  Fortunately we had a few people who reacted fast and got the fire out before we lost everything.

Same thing with those strange deer accidentally.  Went hunting and discovered they make quite a big explosion when they die.  Haven't wanted to risk capturing one alive to see what makes them go boom.  However they do have some pretty nice meat and leather.  So when the rain comes, we all load up and do a bit of a hunt.  Let the rain put out the fires.

it wasn't all bad though.  The new house is coming along quite well.  Foundation is all laid and will be finishing the flooring and doing some interior decorating soon.

The others do wonder why they are not permitted in the outlying building.... I don't think they would get it.  That reminds me, we need to still get the right kidney, lung and heart from Tildema.  Always good to have a spare set of organs, just in case.

So a bit about the new members of our colony:

Aerianna 'Aerin' Nightingale

She is approximately 46 years old, standard age.  Goes to prove that sometimes the crooked path leads to the better destination.  That useless rancher died, and Aerin lived.  Becoming quite well versed in hunting and combat.  Almost seems to have a lust for it.  The sight of blood doesn't phase her in the slightest.  Is becoming Mal's apprentice and our current backup doctor.

I hear Jerbear often talk about her being a goddess of beauty.  Probably is the only person that can tame somebody with such a red mist over her eyes.  Something off about her though.  Even just thinking something, she will just turn and glare at you like you said it right out loud.  Perhaps is one of those psychic people we hear rumors about, but if so, dang, she must be one of the most sensitive ones out there.  Even thinking something in the other room, she will come in and start talking to you about it.

Jerry "Jerbear" Welsh

Is a pretty young guy that managed to survive a raid from one of the tribes.  Says he should be about 21.  Of all the people I fear around here, it is him.  This guy is a monster.  Turns out when he was just a kid, he was abducted from his own tribe where he was trained to be a spy in hostile territories.  Unfortunately his captors didn't account for the fact that he considered them hostile.  Judging by attacks, they want him back.

Guy does have a soft side.  Really likes gardening.  Sometimes hear him singing to himself.  Also likes to talk about the ales he used to make.  Quite an intruiging fellow.  Maybe will let him build his bar.  Keep him happy so he keeps his bow pointed away from us.

Ophelia London

A different sort of character.  Not one I wanted in the colony.  She is 31 and grew up all sheltered.  Similar background to Mel in a way.  Ophelia crashed down from some escape pod during the summer.  From what we found on her, seems she was some sort of mediocre artist getting by on her 'originality'  Overall, pretty useless at the time so we locked her up hoping somebody would be willing to pay some silver for her.

Though with the plagues and raids, the place was starting to become filthy.  Emmie decided we needed a maid, so brought her on board to help keep the place clean.  Not a bad call in the end.  Jumpy as a hungry cat, but always walking around smiling.  I just don't get it.

Red Magpie

One of the two tribes people we caught early on and helped build this place up.  Figure she is 25ish.  Not too much about her to say.  A hard worker, but a fair bit of an attitude.  Really doesn't like men.  Good thing Jerbear and I are the only ones here.  Overheard her talking to some of the gals during dinner.  Turns out here former tribe got wiped out as a kid so now just wants to kill those 'Night Whales' pirates.  Only time she talks to us guys is with Jerbear about ales.  She makes damned fine clothing though.  Guess she was a weaver back at the old tribe.

'Cai'

Glad we brought 'Cai' on board after catching her with Red.  Turns out she one of of the top hunters of her tribe.  At only 26, is one of the best shots in the colony.  Despite growing up with bows and arrows, took to the rifle like it was part of her arm.  Steadier shot than some professional snipers I have known.

Hardest working person in the colony.  Complains about the conditions though too much.  That combined with starting fights?  She can stay in the shacks when the mansion is done.  Learn to be grateful for us putting a solid roof over her head and eating our food.

Batten down the hatches.  Mal says is just like being back home.  Locked under a solid roof as death drifts down from the sky.  Of course The White Valley People ignore us for most of winter and attack us when we got critical work to do.

Didn't stand much of a chance though.  While they had numbers, they were not very bright.  We just waited in our rooms and ducked out to shoot them while their backs were turned.  Barely a scratch.

That is worth a party we figured.  Even let the pigs get in on it.  Having to be locked up for who knows how long, we decided the silo room would be a good spot to store some treats for them.  Better than being in that poison cloud burying them... or we could make more kibble I guess.

We were fortunate.  The toxic cloud seems to have passed by quick though it wasn't easy.  Constant raider attacks and more sickness pushed our capabilities to the max.  but got through relatively unscathed.

Just when we thought we were in the clear, those damned pirates came in and started setting up mortars with sniper cover.  Our only choice was to head out to meet them with three of our fighters sick.  Outnumbered, we managed to push them back and even reclaim a few sniper rifles as well.  Only cost us Cai's left arm.  Well, we would have put new ones on him anyways.  Now we just have an excuse.

New point of interest.  That partially buried structure to the south?  Apparently is emanating some sort of psychic waves.  Emmie was down there to gather some wood got some sort of strange feeling.  She doesn't give into emotions so will believe what she says for now.  Guess will have to go and inspect it soon.

These tribespeople are getting dangerous.  Half of us once again down sick with malaria and Red, one of our best fighters is bedridden with some strange sleeping sickness.

Then we heard it.  The marching chant of those savages once again.  We saw the dust before we saw them.  Due to the toxic event, the forest was still recovering from a mass die off and we could see them as they came marching into our valley.  Our saving grace is they have stopped to do whatever their pre battle rituals are.

Instead of attacking us directly, they stopped at the northwest ridge to apply makeup and do some wierd rituals.  Is giving us time to prepare.... Wait, an eclipse?  I wonder-----

As I was writing before, they seemed to have just been waiting.  They must have been expecting the eclipse.  It gets dark, and then we hear the shouts coming towards us.  An explosion goes off and Mal runs by and ducks into a bedroom.  Eyes adjusting to the dark, it looked like more of them then we originally estimated.

No way we will be able to fight them outside.  We all fell back to the inner hallways, force them to bunch up and give some more cover.  Running so fast, we forget to even close the door behind us.  They swarmed in, a big mass.  We get a couple shots off and have to slam the doors shut behind us.  I found myself alone in the pasture.

We were going to die.  All I could hear was the sound of clubs banging on the wall and gunfire just on the other side of the door.  I didn't dare open it cause I know it would be dead in short order.  Escape wouldn't have been too hard.

Where was everybody else.  Mal of course was hiding in the bedroom and I saw the new recruit, Black, running towards me and taking cover in one of the side dorms.  No sign of Black's compatriot Valkyrie.  Probably ran like a coward.  Smart gal, wish I did the same.  Only a fool dies fighting.  I have an easy out, the field door is probably not being watched with the fighting inside.

An explosion rocks the wall I am against and suddenly I hear screaming.  A hail of gunfire begins again.  For the next hour, the sounds of shouts and gunfire stay just on the other side of my doorway followed by more blasts.  I hear voices filled with fear replace the twangs of arrows.  I open the door to see them retreating.  The hallway is scorched and the walls near falling down.

Interestingly, they do not run back out the way they came.  Instead they are running to where the rest of the colony had fortified.  As I step out, I see two running to the the entryway.  Right past a bloody and smiling Mal.  Myself and London take them out and proceed to give chase deeper into the structure.  I guess Mal made an impact.  We all meet in the intersection as the panicked tribespeople try to break down the south door.  Despite out firing, Mal just runs past us all and proceeds to lob one last grenade right into the center of the clustered group.

Not one survived.  Well, not true.  We found two survivors still alive on the floor.  Will have see what we do with them.  The pretty gal I heard was a good shot.  The guy?  Well if we send him back minus a couple organs and leg,  maybe they finally have learned.  Pigs will get good eating tonight.  Aside from a few cuts and bruises, the worst loss we took was Mal blew up our stonecutting table.

Criminalist traders finally arrived today.  Waited all summer for them to show.  Injuries are starting to mount up.  Cai having been sniper one armed has been problematic.  Today they finally showed up so we could get her patched up.  Managed to pick her up a new bionic arm.  Cost a fair bit so better appreciate it.  With 12 confirmed kills in the year she has been here puts her at double what anybody else has done so seems like a good investment.  Though will wait until we get the new medical bed designs finished and built.   Would hate to break the new arm.

On topic of medical.  Will also be needing to keep an eye out for some eyes for Red.  Pun intended.  She is half blind from all the fights both within and outside to colony.  Not really needed, but a blind person cannot pull their weight.  Would be a shame to lose her skills with the spear.

Mad doc Mal is asking for a power claw as well.  That will make surgery interesting.  She lost a thumb so if needing bionics, wanting something suitable for her work.

Just wish those traders would have stayed out of the field.  Had to harvest the healroot early just to keep it all from being eaten and trampled.

Busy morning.

During the night, Aerin's Syster, Nightingale and her servant came by to visit as well as a person named M'ikayla with some guy that had been trying to woo her.

M'ikayla is my type of gal.

As they visited during the night, she mentioned that the Criminalists are too strict for her tastes and lacking freedom.  She brought along Lelande, some gal that has been annoying her around hoping would be bitten by some snake when she came to "visit".  I guess we could liberate her from that faction.

So early in the morning we struck.  We went to capture M'ikayla under the premise of her being a spy.  We split the forces in two, one to deal with Nightingale and her servant while the others  made sure was no trouble on the south.  Plan went better than I could have hoped for.

Emmie got M'ikayla came along without any fuss, and Lelande was suppressed without being killed.  On the other end, Red quickly dispatched Excavar while Valkyrie, London and I were able to beat Nightingale into submission without actually killing her.  Fancy that.

Turns out that the 'Olga of Camel' tribe didn't appreciate our message so now I think everybody is against us.  Maybe will have to use the potato next time.  We will send back Lelande after patching her up, but I don't think the Criminalists will be sending by any more traders for a while.

After a quiet year, seems like everything is happening at once.  At this rate, will never be able to check out that ancient structure.  Was working on the wall when a massive hunk of ship comes crashing down.  I feel a light buzzing in my head, but apparently Mal is being affected much more than the rest of us.  Will have to deal with it pretty soon before things get bad  Perhaps we can burn it down once this rain stops.

Will wait until we get Cai's arm installed.  Would rather not get too close so could make use of a good sniper.

A cautious approach was indeed beneficial.  As soon as we went to destroy the ship part, a trio of mechanoids came out.  It is now confirmed that Cai is a good investment.  With the new arm, one shot, one kill on the mechanoids.  Barring any unforeseen events, I hope to investigate that structure in the next couple of days.

Well, ready to breach this building.  The newcomers complained about the labour and that I was wasting materials constructing these buildings out here.  Learned pretty quick to not take anything Emmie says lightly....  Even if it was overkill, having an outpost here could prove beneficial as well in the long term so the construction won't be wasted.

Never will any be allowed to doubt Emmie.  Her word is law.  As soon as Red breached the door, multiple mechanoids came out and opened fire.  The IED worked flawlessly to weaken the scythes and allowed us to take them down fast.  Mal gave cover with grenades while the rest of us were able to take down the Centipedes without any injuries sustained.

It is a good thing too since the only think in the structure was a couple of psychic devices that help soothe the minds, and a dead guy.  At least we got a good minigun from the deal.  M'ikayla got a picked it up before anybody could say anything and went on her way.  That look of ecstasy on her face?  Nobody said a thing to stop her.  Were liable to be shot if we tried to debate the claim.

It seems that some of the local converts were upset we didnt' hold a party for the new year.  Result is they hosted their own.  Everybody showed up, but more than a few didn't really seem enthused.  Valkyrie stood shyly off to the side.  Her one close friend in the colony, Leira, busy chatting with the group at the table.

Mal just looked downright frustrated.  Understandably so.  This party was interrupting her research.  Well look at the date.  Going to be time for our year two summary in a few days.  Maybe Aerin's sister will stop being stubborn and join us.  Could use more labourers.

Decided to put Red on the nighshift with Leira.  Red doesn't seem to get along well with the guys and some tensions are developing between her and Jerbear.  Best split em up.  Patching up after fights is a waste of meds and the loss of productivity even worse.

YEAR TWO IN REVIEW

Journal of Samuel Redmen

DATE: 11th Winter 5502
LOCATION: Microton

A very productive and profitable year compared to last.  More people joining us to help build something grand much to the jealousy of our neighbours.  We had some high risk fights, but tactics and ruthlessness wins the day.

This will be a shorter year in review compared to last year.  Much of the high points have been summarized in my previous journal entries.  The most notable fact is that everybody just works.   Red seems in a better mood now that she does not have to work with us men.  It is an interesting point for our compound actually.  The only men are myself, Black and Jerbear.  Camba and Suyu in the prison are the only other males, but so far they don't seem to want to leave.  Perhaps the shoddy wood beds are too luxurious for them.

There are no vices to be found.  Alcohol does not exist in the workforce nor has there been any signs of illicit relationships.

From a production side, we have begun manufacturing our own weaponry and armor recently.  Skill can only go so far versus the numbers that the tribes have been throwing at us.  The hostilities we raised after abducting Nightingale makes the Criminalists a potential threat.  Lastly is the Night Whales have been eerily quiet.

The successes of the last year cannot remain forever.  Just a matter of time, we need to remain vigilant and should upgrade for fortifications after we finish expanding the mansion to make room for M'ikayla and  Camba if he ever joins us.  Yes, a prisoner locked in our cell has a luxurious room waiting for him.  Even though he is a prisoner, he has the ruthlessness required to succeed and that should be rewarded.

Almost tempted to let Cai in.  The way she has been taking out those raiders has been more then impressive.  However she is a bit too soft and has caused problems on more than one occasion because didn't agree with doing what must be done.

So a bit about the new members of our colony:

Mia 'Valkyrie' Hawke

She is a 44 year old writer turned pirate.  Not sure the cause of the transition.  Most likely childish dreams fading to reality.  Got to make a living after all.  A fairly quiet individual.  Good with a gun and a knife, but spends most of the time working in the gardens where she appears to be happiest.  Doesn't move to fast, just sort of moseys around.

Have seen her spending her free time whittling up small crafts to put in her room.  With all the stone we have kicking around, might see if she wants to do us some sculpting.  Rich fools down in the urb and glitterworlds pay a fair level of silver for 'folk art'.  Of all the people in the compound, she probably would have the most aptitude and enthusiasm for this job.  Might even keep a couple of the statues around.

Black Oyster

He is one ugly middle aged guy of 36.  Mostly just brought in to do our casual labour  He was just some loner animal herder when we caught him.  Shows how ignorant those tribesmen are.  What he lacks for skill, he made up for in sheer iron will to the point of pain seems to just drive him on further and harder.

Overall most of his time is spent just cleaning up and hauling things around.  Helps in the fields at harvest time.  His combat skills are just mediocre, but with some experience, will improve quickly.  Has some solid aptitude for most any weapon we give him.

Leira Donkey

Don't let the name fool you.  This 33 year old beauty is new to the colony but will undoubtedly make an impact.    Overall is quite similar to Black in that she is another tribes-person relegated to being a lone herder.  Compared to Black, she is much more enthusiastic when it comes to gardening.  A good investment to convert.  Likes to work at night in peace and is happy with just minimal accommodations.  Seems to prefer it actually.

We didn't recruit her to plant flowers.

With a bit of time, she can easily become the most combat capable of any of us.  Any gun, any object in her hands.  Even a log can become lethally effective.  Growing crops and tending to animals is a waste of her skills.  As we get more equipment and bionics, we will help her turn into the killing machine she was born to be.

M'ikayla Vongrimm

This older gal of 53 years is a source of wisdom and experience for us all.  Her defection to us and the resulting 'misunderstanding' with the Criminalists has resulted in some supply problems, but we are able to self sustain well enough.

While Leira is has the potential to be the most deadly,  M'ikayla is easily the one who can keep people in line.  Is a monster after my own heart.  If I could fall in love, then I would probably be head over heels for her.  It doesn't matter the mood or what is happening.  She always is smiling.  When she got a hold on that minigun, I swear she received pleasure no man could ever give.

On top of that, she is always checking out Cai's arm and Mal's hand.  Turns out we don't have to convince her to receive augmentations.  She down right wants it.  When off shift, we have seen her out in the field just walking around with that minigun.  Eyes closed, humming and smiling as she imagines mowing down rows of invaders and slicing them open with clawed hands.  Will need to make amends with her former town and see if we can get those bits.

These social problems just keep becoming more and more troublesome.  Cai and Black are getting at eachother's throat.  Ugly ol's black seems to be disliked by most people.  Would put him on the nightshift, but with Red there, had to move Cai over.  More meds and time wasted cause somebody can't take a few words.  Course, somebody felt it important to give them.  The joys of savages.....

Well, this was an interesting night.  Had some raiders come in and was able to catch the whole thing on the new security camera set up.  It went par for the course.  Most of them dead, only a few injuries on our side.  Don't think these raiders know how to handle hit and run tactics.  A knife doesn't help when we have a Cai's sniper rifle aiming from the other side of the complex.

Keep getting more potential recruits, not sure what we are going to do with them all.  Probably have to start selling people.  We got some troublemakers here, only a matter of time before we start enforcing some laws if resources get tighter.  But the people.  This one is kind of a unique situation.

It all started when we detected drop pods landing just on the other side of the northern fields.

We with drew to observe and position ourselves.  For the most part, the battle went fine.  As usual, we split into two forces with one group covering the thermal generator while the others took up position down the hallway.  They burst into one of the bedrooms and proceeded to the main corridor at which time Red's group opened the door and proceeded to create a cross fire situation removing all cover.

The lady who appeared to be the commander of this strike team moved to engage in melee with red and the assault rifle team.  She was quickly subdued.  The rest being caught without adequate cover were rapidly immobilized.  See attached for the battlefield layout.

Then we heard some interesting chatter.  Jerbear must have overheard one of the assault troops talking to the commander because suddenly he tells us all that this person is probably his mother.  Sure enough, it was.  His mom, he can carry her.  Was funny watching him just throw her over his shoulder and drag her into the cell.

Before medical treatment, we like to interrogate our prisoners to find out if they are even worth the food to feed them.  This is where the problem comes in.  Turns out Trudy isn't just the boss of this strike team, but one of the bosses for the Night Whales up high.

So now at a question.  Do we recruit her since she is solid in the face of battle but not much good for anything else, release her which will never actually happen, get outselves some spare organs and execute her which could lead to some issues with Jer, or just sell her off.  Will have to sleep on it, but I am thinking on the latter, that could be pretty humorous.  We might need to build a new cell.  Something more secure I think.  But then will need food delivered... hrm.... decisions....

Must be the end days.  A plague of boomrats has swarmed into the area.  Must be diseased or something since they are just charging at us the moment we open the door.

Normally this wouldn't be a concern.  Has happened with other animals before, but these boomrats with all the greenery around?  That is a pretty severe risk.  Waiting them out would be an option if not for the fact that there are traders currently visiting.  Cannot even lock them in, they just unlock it and pass through anyways.

Well, their loss if they go out there before we can clear the rats out.

Ha ha, know worries!  It is nice to know that peeps are reading it.  Is apprecieated ^.^

I have done the big colonies with the same layouts over and over, from ice sheets to deserts.  Is fun to make it more of a story and sharing it really helps me to get into it.  I do DMing for Pathfinder RPG, and as such, a good story makes a great game.  I just had a very interesting raid that is going to create some fun story for tomorrow ^.^

Edit:  It is also neat the stuff you discover.  The difficulty is Rough with Randy.  That first year was touch and go, but going smooth now, knock on wood.  In this case, having a roleplay style configuration as I was trying to do the mansion/plantation layout plus the random map landing me on hills meant a change in tactics.

Most notably is making use of the settlement for guerilla tactics.  Limited cover, but multiple fire angles and making use of cover has really limited the injuries.  I mean I lost and arm and got some bad scrapes and scars, but overall not too bad.  Making use of rooms and doorways means the whole force cannot be ganged up on.  If they try to go after one, I can fall back to safety while another group now has clean lines of fire due to the reds breaking cover.  Haven't built a turret yet!

Once again, a tribe attacks.  Interrupted a good sleep.  We keep growing, but they bringing the same weapons.  More, but the same.  Looks like they are coming from the south this time.  Bad call.  We have built up and fortified the ravine leading into the camp.

...Okay, I am nervous and I never get nervous.  As we were organizing our plan,  Mal and M'ikayla just jogged past where we were supposed to meet to plan our defense.  Mal breezed by like she was getting a beer and M'ikayla was giggling like she was a girl heading to her first day of school.

They need to take this more seriously.  It only takes one stray arrow to kill you.

This was an interesting and unexpected day.

So there was more to that attack then expected.  This is not refering the Mal and M'ikayla's actions either.  They saw the security feed, the decided to act on their own and set up an ambush as the tribe walked in a tight grouping to their staging point by the mountain.  As I stood guarding the entrance to the compound, I could see M'ikayla's gun lighting up firing to the east.  Over the wall the flashes of grenades could be seen.

Soon, Mal came running back into the compound.  With M'ikayla following suit.  The barrels of her gun glowing as smoke drifted from them.  Mal turned and threw one more grenade then disappeared towards the side gate just as the tribespeople ran into the courtyard.  Stepping right on that last grenade.

While it was damned stupid, it was quite effective as can be seen here in the security feed records.

Overall, it broke their ranks fairly well and they attacked well before they were prepared.  Angered and seeking revenge, they rushed right into our trap.  From three directions we came out of cover and opened fire.  They sought shelter in the entryway to return fire with bow and pila.

At which time, bullets rained on the doorway as that whine of the minigun started back up followed just moments later by a grenade blowing right under their feet.  Just minutes after starting their attack on the compound, they went into full retreat leaving scores of dead and wounded behind.  A post combat overview is attached.  To the bottom right and the compound doorway, you can see the piles of bodies from just these two gals.

That isn't what made this day a long one though.  The real headache came from after the fight while we were cleaning up the bodies.  Two of the faces were familiar.  Seems our message we sent the tribe before were back.  My guess is not on their own accord.  In the initial surveillance imagery attached to the previous entry, you can see Caterpillar not wanting to be part of the combat.

Both Caterpillar and Okapi were residents of the colony in the past.  They were part of the warning sent back last year minus a kidney and lung.  Seems like a liability in combat if you ask me.  They must be desperate.  Unfortunately their inability to take the warning seriously now means those two, along with scores more lie in the barn, dead.

There is another surprise with this duo.  One of which created more than just a headache.  Jerbear was the one who found Okapi's body.  Turns out that before coming here, Okapi and Jerbear were lovers.  Until now, he has been a collected individual but this caused his mood to just cascade.  He begged us to let him intern her.  I didn't care.  I told him we wouldn't haul her body and would just leave it there.  It was his responsibility to deal with the corpse.

To thank him for his service to date, we did let him build a sarcophagus in the tomb we had set up.  Had it finished without spending too much time and then took her to be entombed.

You would think he would be grateful for our generosity.  I mean after all, she came as part of a group to try and kill us then we let him make use of our resources to entomb her.  Anybody else would end up as pig food.  After this, he went back to work hauling the dead.  Once he entered the field where she was killed, he flew into a rage and went to attack Leira.

It was not much work to subdue him, but Mal explained, in no kind words while treating his bruises, that he had a choice.  Get over her death, or can get back locked up again until he was.  It sounds like having a place to mourn gave him the closure he needs.  A few punches sorted him out.

The artistic inscription on the tomb though.

I suspect there is more than just a bit of a vendetta with our group.  Seems the knowledge that Mal removed his lover's organs stuck in his mind.  He no longer can be trusted.  It must be assumed he is a spy or dissident.  If there is another outburst or any sign that he will be a threat in the future, we will have him executed and fed to the pigs.

As for the rest of the group.  They are all doing a good job.  Thanks to the boomrat infestation, we now have overflowing freezers.  Enough so that I am even letting the recruited colonists have meat in their meals.  Hard work should be rewarded.  If they keep it up, might even let them decorate their rooms.

As for the survivors from 'Olga of Camel', I think they finally learned their lesson.  Nice thing about grenades and that minigun is they maim more than clean kill.  Left us plenty of survivors.  A crushing defeat and then treating their wounded and releasing them.... without removing their organs this time will surely show them that we are both powerful, but benevolent.

But they will know that if they wrong us again, there will be no mercy.   Any future attacks and we will remove their hearts while they still beat in their chests.

Short entry.  Heavy rain has been occuring since the start of summer and bugs are getting rampant.  Myself and a couple others came down with the sleeping sickness Cai had for most of last year a couple days ago.  Today?  Half the colony seems to have developed malaria.  Is going to be a tough slog and we don't have enough medical beds.  Time for some triage zones.

At least 'Mad Doc' Mal seems okay.  I think we will be needing her a lot over the coming days.

I am starting to get concerned about some of the people we have converted to work for us.  Just a couple days after we all start developing sickness, and at the height of the impact of malaria, we get another raid.  Another raid with another connection.  Less occurred during this particular raid than others.  Mostly because the new pillboxes were built at south entry.  This allowed us to fight them off with relative ease.

The unusual part is that once again, a former lover of one of our converts was in the attack and killed.  This time Black Oyster's lover was killed in the attack.  So once again, a relation was buried.  A relation with past ties to our colony.  It seems a bit over a year ago we had captured Black Chicken.  Wonder how she got back.  At that time she most assuredly would have been sold into slavery.

Them aside, we disabled another five people in the attack.  They barely got by the outer wall, let alone be a threat.  Time to impress our omnipotence over another tribe.

Seems like the Criminalists are taking things into their own hands finally.  Must be wanting their defector back.  Combat went as expected with them being no threat to our front lines.  We do appreciate the gear being delivered.  So much food that even the barn is full.  More bodies than the pigs can eat.

Valkyrie has completed one of her first pieces of artwork.  While we originally started the art to make money, the quality and message in this piece was a bit beyond our initial expectations.  We decided to set it up in the dining hall where everybody can reflect on it.

Being on the goodside of the tribespeople definitely has it's moments.  Today we had the Whales drop down on us.  Judging by the equipment they brought, looks like it would have been a tough siege.  Been quite problematic dealing with it as toxic fallout started falling from who knows where.

Fortunately, the Whales didn't verify their drop point and dropped right into some tribal villagers who were leaving after stopping by for a few minutes.  Outnumbered and overpowered, those Whales were dispatched without us ever needing to step foot past our walls!

I think my concerns might not be so unfounded.  Today we had an incident with both Cai and Red going berserk and attacking Leira without provocation.  They were amongst the first to join us and the who I considered to be the most loyal of our pawns.  I will need to investigate further.  I would rather not deal with insurrection, but perhaps we can let Red build that saloon she has been talking about for so long.

We won't let Red use it though.  Her little temper tantrum cost Leira her foot.  Fortunately we have a bionic leg to help get her back... on her feet... but that will come out of Red's pay.

While alcohol can lead to confrontations and occasionally cause productivity problems, it also can loosen lips.  Maybe somebody will say something to help us figure out what is going on.

A side problem.  We rescued a tribesperson who was injured during the Whale attack.  He had lost his leg.  We have him in our medical beds, but unfortunately is refusing to let us operate so he may walk again.  This will be problematic.

Though is not as bad off as Fifteen year old Raygun in the next room over.  He lost an arm and an eye.  We then took the lung for a transplant.  Well, second time around we did.  First attempt Mal messed up and accidentally removed his leg.  Surgery with powerclaws maybe not so great?  We will be replacing his teeth as well then sending him on his way.  Message for the other whales.

Genius me.... I went to quote this as it makes it faster to ensure I have the correct format and I gloriously went 'modify' instead of 'quote' and never caught it.  Result is I wrote over the entire thing.  It was a bigger of the year summaries and I don't have the heart to try and re-write it again since this bit of play is no longer fresh and new in my mind.... The new prison is almost done and it cannot be too soon.  The prisoners tried an escape today while most of us were away doing our work.  We were able to meet up and stop them before they could even get out of the meeting hall.  It was a mistake they would regret.  Leira was first to respond but had to fall back after getting ganged up on.  But next to arrive was Mal followed by Red and Ben.  They learned the price of betraying our kindness.

Mal's ruthlessness brought a quick end to the situation.  While Ben and Red caused some people to lose some smaller appendages,  she ripped off Kami's arm and evicerated Nexi.  The others got to watch as Starlight feasted on her corpse as they were hauled back to their cells.

Nexi, by the way, was a survivor of an escape pod that landed the day after Kami crashed into our potatoes.  Is too bad, we could have gotten some good money off of trading her.

We got the new prison done today and everybody relocated to deep within the hill.  Some had issues with the stone beds in the cells being better than the wooden beds in their rooms.  If they want, we can give them nice beds, and then they can have nutrient paste.  Will allow us more crop space to devote to devilstrand.

Back to the topic at hand, right after we get everybody moved to the larger quarters, Humantic Partners comes over the radio.  That emptied out the cell pretty fast.  More grumbling from the labor, but they will get over it.  We do have Red and Cai on a relaxed work schedule.

Red has been having more and more problems of late.  The main one is one that we can understand.  A combination of injuries have been causing severe chronic pain, or so Mal tells me.  We do have a Painstopper implant in cold storage, but Red is such a solid worker, that I would hate to lose that productivity due to side effects or worse, complications from the surgery.

Other than that, has been very slow.  Decided to bribe some people in Criminalists in hopes that they would start sending traders by again.  Will have to see.  We have so much surplus wardrobe that we have started having to incinerate it.

The saloon has turned out to be more beneficial than initially suspected.  Let them brew a few beer and keeps em happy for days.  Red and Cai of course are the only ones really having any drinking problems, but again, it keeps their guns pointing outwards.  Red spends most of the time in her room just machining up components so it keeps her mood good.  We built her a nice comfy chair and probably will let her decorate it up a bit.

Drop pods?  Wierd.  They don't show up on scanners as human or cargo.

The devil never turns down an invitation to come and play.  Shortly after midnight, as I was writing my last entry I was alerted to hazardous drop pods landing nearby.  Turns out they were some mechanoids.  It was a long battle.  More with patience than the bots though.

Scanners indicated we had a scythe heading towards the south fast.  We were able to quickly form our standard defensive line and take it out without prejudice and without injury.

One thing of note is not everybody is on the line.  While the scythe was blitzing our line, three centipedes had split up.  One armed with minigun heading to the south gate, and two heading to the east entry. It turns out there were breaks in our north wall that bypassed our defenses.  This was never reported to me.  I was not amused.

As such, we had to split our forces.  Long range and precision weapons moved into our forward outpost by the old ruins and were the first to engage.  Cai and myself were able to lure it into firing range allowing Black, Valentine, Camba and Aerin to open fire and disable it cleanly.

East gate was composed of the heavier armaments.  Everybody got into position when a problem was reported.  It turns out there was another segment of damaged wall allowing both an energy and an inferno cannon wielding Centipedes right past our defensive line.  They had not even got into position yet due to having to run all the way from south gate!

Quick thinking and bravery on the part of the fireteam managed to lure the energy cannon into the killing field, with minimal injury.  It was time consuming case of cat and mouse.  We were the mice.  Fortunately we were mice with machine guns.

However during that firefight, the inferno cannon had turned and headed back to where we had disabled the minigun wielding 'pede.  My forward team kept formed in the bunker and tried to hold it in position while the east team flanked it from behind.  It was a risky fight with some burns, but in the end, we got out okay.  Eight hours on the line though had everybody's nerves frayed.  Even mine.

In the attached tactical photo of the last 'pede, you might see a new face.  Early in the morning, right in the middle of combat, this guy names Ryu strolls right into our compound and tells Emmie that he wants to work for us.  Strangely flamboyant guy that brought with him a bunch of books.  He does seem easy to get along with and says he figures this place will be a central nexus of artistic inspiration which is why he's here.

He does have artistic skill so he either is telling the truth, or he is a spy since he definitely didn't come for the food.

Just as everybody is starting to finish recovering from the Mechanoid attack, a heat wave strikes.  Usually I would say tough it out but this one is way too hot.  Currently having a rush to install more air conditioning units to help keep the coolers operational and the rooms down to a temperature to keep everybody from collapsing.

We have a surplus of power for the time being, but am hoping it can take the extra load.  If not, might need more solar or wind generators.  I think they can handle us canceling what was supposed to be a day off to recover; all things considered.

We receive word early this morning that the leader of the Olga of Camel tribe had died and replaced by a new leader.  Wonder if our relations will remain the same.  I guess it is a good sign since they even bothered to tell us.

A profitable day!  Two massive beasts showed up in the area today and proceeded to start eating the forest.  From the looks and behavior of them, we figure these are the mythical Thrumbos that the tribespeople have told us about in past meetings.  One sniper shot to aggrivate by me, then a bit of luring them into our trap and they don't seem so tough.

What I do know is that this fur is quite nice and am sure that collectors and superstitious will pay a premium for their horns.  Will have a feast tonight for sure.  Don't think nature agreed and must have read my mind.  Before we even began to hunt the Thrumbos, monkeys in the area went mad for some reason and attacked.

And later in the day?  Beavers!  Must be some tasty wood.  Don't know for sure about that, but what I do know is that we now have so much meat that we are even giving it to the pigs.

Finally some traders show so we can do business.  Criminalist trades started up earlier this morning allowing us to unload a whole pile of surplus apparel that we do not want.  Later in the day, we got word that an exotic goods trader had entered orbit.

The disappointing part was that we were very limited on available merchandise for purchase.  We have been needing an assortment of bionic components, but their selections were limited at best.

Maybe we should have bought the elephant.  Start a circus or something and charge admission.  Or attack elephants!  That would have been interesting.

Same old, same old.  Pirates attack, they fall in a hail of gunfire as we pop out of our bunkers.  We had a few survivors, but they didn't stick around long.  A pirate trader showed up today so we sold the lot of them off to them.  Of course some people having problems.  Red most notably.  We were able to give her at least one bionic eye.  Helped somewhat but still will need an eye and arm replaced to really get back in the game.

Other than that, some good joking around the table.  Emmie made an interesting observation about the trained pigs.  They seem to almost work harder than the folk around here.  She got a good laugh as one of the piglets went running buy with a stack of devilstrand draped over it's head.  We also need to talk to M'ikayla about her training.  Somebody tell me how that one pig got into the kitchen please?  That cannot be hygenic...

Also, somebody explain to me why Mal is marrying somebody so useless.  Guy is good in a fight and that is about it.  Well, I guess why fight if you can get somebody to do it for you?

Another day, another attack.  I was an idiot, everybody was stupid.  The mechanoids came down in the northeast while I was in the extreme southwest hunting.

In my ignorance, I thought they had enough tactical sense to figure it out for themselves as I finished the hunt.  Was I wrong.

During the staging for the fight, Red went into stress mode.  Being a melee combatant, we let her and Ben off defense duty.  While Ben slept, Red decided to snap and attack him.  Valkyrie was nearby and was able to wake him as Red charged to his room.

Red's skills were too great.  She quickly disabled Ben, and put Valkyrie to the ground after taking her foot.  Emmie and her Worg went to intercept, but Red went after Violet, the pig.  Violet had none of that and brought Red down.

((Thought I had a screenshot of this, but apparently I didn't paste it and save it.  That frustrates me....))

In the mean time, the strain of waiting for the centipedes really grates on my nerves.  One at a time we slowly engaged, luring them to our front lines.  The worst part was that one was ignoring us.  While we dispatched two of them, the third moseyed on down to the south gate that somebody failed to close.  Stupid.

It is our costliest fight to date.  Bionics that were supposed to be allocated to M'ikayla now potentially going to Valkyrie instead.  Cai lost her other arm so we need to give her a prosthetic.  Cai's sniper rifle also got pretty heavily damaged so will need to make a new one.  We have Red locked up as we figure out what to do with her.  If she had killed anybody, I would have had her executed.

From now on, anybody showing signs of malcontent will be locked up.  Red had a free schedule and abused it.  That makes me angry.   This should have gone smooth.  I hate mistakes.

Enough was enough.  In security Red was acting up.  Nightingale was working to keep Red from tearing down the door when a drunken Valkyrie walks right in and proceeds to get attacked.  So we told Ben he could get his revenge.  Ben went and grabbed Red's spear and promptly put her down permanently.  No crypt for her.  To the pigs feed with Red.  What a waste of a bionic eye.

Red was good with a spear, and a great machinist, but way too much of a liability.  Now the issue comes down to who will make our components and weaponry...

I was wondering where you had experience writing, wish I had more RP experience myself. Or any at all.

Really enjoy reading it, I wonder if putting everything in one document would make it easier and faster to read.

Mostly just years of roleplay and reading way to many books.  They key to roleplay is looking past the medium, and just the context of what is going on.

R.I.P Red

For example.  From a gameplay perspective, I had two painstoppers and she had acute pain for a while at a -15.  That would have helped earlier on.  The bionic eye dropped it to a -10 but selling four slaves gave a -22 to mood.  I knew beforehand that it would be bad to sell them, but I really just ignore the mood values themselves in things like roleplay.  Instead, I had a colony that is lead by psychopaths so all the actions in this play are centered around them.

So I decided early that if Red acted up, I would arrest her.  Well her acting up in prison, then a drunk Valkyrie opening the door, a group of psychopaths wouldn't understand that the entire mood issue was slave trading and how it affected Red so Ben was allowed to pick up his spear and revenge.  From a gameplay perspective, I would never do it like that.  From a roleplay, that made for more engaging story and more fitting of what is going on.

Putting the writing all in one source; it is something that crossed my mind.  The one reason I didn't is the mix of small events and large events spread out over long days.  Hence the journal format.  It allows me to separate the dates and at a glance can see what is going on.  Really more of an experiment than anything.  Was hoping a person who is interested can just browse for last date they read and read on from that.

Most importantly, am hoping people are really liking it.  I want to gear up for a conclusion of this colony soon since I think it has reached that stage where everything is fairly stable and would otherwise be at the mercy of the RNG.  If people are enjoying, I would like to do it again soon with a seed I have been holding onto.  An Extreme Randy difficulty hardcore mode play on top of that.

To say it has been a stressful past few days is an understatement.  For the past few days we have been needing to hide out and play cat and mouse combat games in the compound.  Full days of rotating combat, patching our wounded and right back at it.

It all started on the evening of the tenth.  While we were all heading to bed, a piece of ship debris crashed right outside our home walls.  We immediately mobilized.  Having dealt with these types of components in the past, we were expecting mechanoids to emerge.  Unfortunately before we could deal with that, some insect hives emerged in the mines and the prison.

Normally neither would be of much difficulty, but with these two events together, we knew time would not be on our side.  If we left the bugs, they would overrun the place before we could deal with it.  If we left the ship, then the psychic effects hitting our people would worsen.

We started by attacking the bugs.  We snuck in to prop the prison doors open and lure the bugs out allowing us to pick them off and wear them down over time and clear the cells.  It took over half a day to clear the bugs out of the prison; after which Ben moved in to close the hives.

That was only a satellite collection of hives from the insects.  It was worse deep in the mines and we didn't have the time to deal with them.  Instead, we had Trudy grab some molotovs to follow Ryu into the mines.  Cai and I held back to cover the hallway.  The two snuck in and lit the hives on fire.  If any bugs aggressed, they fell back to where we were.  Within a few hours, the hives were ignited as well as some other debris.  This slowly raised the temperature of the caves until the bugs boiled to death in the hot air.  Eventually we were able to vent the caves, then go in and extinguish the fires.

That still left the ship.

We all staged at the east gate.  The one closest to the ship components.  Cai and myself snuck outside the walls and began to snipe off the drones from a distance.  ...And we spotted them.  The pirates thought it would be a good idea to attack at that time.  They ran right into the aggressed mechanoids.  Some of the pirates fought while others broke down our walls.

This is where things get stressful.  We already spent a day hunting bugs, then more time trying to disable the mechs.  Now we had pirates running around our home!  On top of that, they damaged the ship component to the point where the mechs switched over to attack mode!  We had to clear out these raiders all while avoiding the mechanoids.

It didn't take too long to drive them back considering the damage  their combatants took at the ship part.  On our end we spent the next day we ran about sniping and luring the mechs to keep them outside the compound.  On constant rotation so we could keep eating.  Stress ran rampant and some of us broke but fortunately we were able to subdue those who did without killing any of them.

Overall, we had a pile of injured, but fortunately none of them permanent.  I dont know how.  A few were close to death from the wounds they received by getting shot in the head.  Only reason we survived was being able to keep them to the outer walls while we patched the inner breach.  It took hours to take down even one of the centipedes though.  A full day to get them all.

If even one got through, we would have had to engage them directly and casualties definitely would have been much worse.  The odd tribesman came to help, but they quickly got killed by the superior hostile forces.

Starlight I think is getting a bit senile.  Wandered right up to a centipede and only ran after getting shot.  Stupid mutt.  Violet the Pig went about dragging the centipede corpses around, that was humorous.   I think I need another beer....  and then get off this rock.  Back to the core systems.  Got an empire to build.

Another short one.  Turns out today is Cai's birthday.  As a present, found out that she has a cholesterol problem and some minor artery blockage at the age of 28.

Oh, and mechanoids attacked.

Happy Birthday.

YEAR FOUR IN REVIEW

Journal of Samuel Redmen

DATE: 11th Winter 5504
LOCATION: Microton

Been a tough year.  Mechanoids invading, having to kill Red and sickness rampant.  I really do hate this place.  Nothing here to do, no future, nothing.  Uptight workers needing to be catered and spoiled to prevent the whole place from falling apart.

If they knew....

After the last mechanoid attack, we made a call.  I closed off the chicken field so we could build a new experimental reactor.  The past couple weeks were quiet so I was able to get a lot done.  To celebrate, there are going to be some fireworks.  We are setting up which is why we are not in the saloon with the rest.

So the new folks:

Brett Hoffman

I already spoke a bit about Brett, but a recap.  Useless fiancee of Mal.  But a good fighter.  Maybe Mal sees something I don't but who knows.  Her business, not mine.  He is 47.  Grew up in the slums of an urbworld, but got out and managed to work his way to being a noble of some medieval planet.  Maybe that is why he is coming along.  Makes a good figurehead.

Ryusho 'Ryu'  Yosei

Now he is quite the character.  Just showed up and started working.  If you can call it work.  For being 20, he is pretty naive still.  All he really was good for was helping in the garden and hauling stuff around.  The others got along well with him.  He always had some story or tale to share with the others while they ate, or worked, or just stood around waiting for raiders to show their faces.

Oh, is almost time for the fireworks to begin.  Looks like everybody is ready.  It's a pretty heavy rain out there as usual.  Always rain and never stops...

Is too bad.  On any other planet, what we built would make us powerful and wealthy for the rest of our lives.  Here, it is nothing.

Journal of Cai

Attached is a scrawled page written on what appears to be watersoaked paper.

It has been a Two days since the day we viewed as a day of hope.  Every year we all got together.  We took a photo as one.  We were family.  But we didn't get that way by choice, but instead by necessity.

I look back through this log and see words.  Spiteful words.  It is a truth we knew.  To them, we were but tools.  They sat in their fortress of stone.  Three amongst more.  They drew the ire of all who live here.  Power and greed compelling them.  For us, we had no choice.  We had been captured.  They viewed us as a threat so would not let us go.  Red and I knew the type.

Demons, souless demons.  We worked, or we died.

We saw first hand their savageness as they ripped the organs out of those who sought to remove these monsters from our lands then send their victims home with but rags.  We tried to change their ways as their power was too great to stop by force.  More and more were locked into the cage.  We secretly were able to get them to help us.  To try and get the power from their hands.

Over the few years, we grew.  We lived in our wooden shacks, only the pigs as neighbours.  Fighting to protect our home while trying to stop the bloodshed.  Over time, their paranoia made them do right.  Though out of fear and not compassion, for they had none.

Their paranoia grew with time.  They manipulated and twisted words in our ears.  Tempted with food and alchohol while whispering in the backround.  In the end, they killed one of our family.

My good friend Red.  Since childhood we had been together.  The pressure they placed.  Forcing her to fire on former friends and allies.  None were pushed harder until the day she finally broke.  Overcome with grief and shock, she no longer saw her friends.  She was convinced they were all monsters.  While she was locked in the prison, they manipulated poor Ben into trying to stop her and handed him the cruelest of all weapons.

Her own.

He did not want to kill her, but Red was blinded and in defending himself, struck a mortal blow.

Now they are gone.  And with them, years of hard work and labour.  Taken by their deceit.  I do not know what else to say about them.  We have now elected Trudy as leader who asked to speak to us this morning on the field of sin.  I have been asked to record the first address.

*The following is a video recording from the records of Microton

The video starts from a position elevated from eye level.  Seen in the picture is a flower pot and statue.  Around them stands eleven people.  One appeared to be bandaged.  A tall stone wall appears across the background.  The floor is of a finished metal.  The sun is rising in the west.

There is a middle aged woman in the middle of the circle flanked by two others; a younger man and woman.  She begins to speak.

"I am glad you all are here,"  She says looking over at the one known as London, "Two days ago, the truth we have known was confirmed.  Our overseers abandoned us, leaving us on our own.  The following day, the Whales thought they could exploit this and one of us were nearly killed"

"But we were not killed.  We fought as we had fought in the past, and as we will fight in the future.  We were not abandoned.  We were liberated.  We have food, walls and family.  Through efforts, we have repaired relations and united the tribes.  They feared the strength of our unity and fled paradise on the day of new beginnings."

"We watched as the greatest threat to all who live here fled.  Leaving in a trail of fire.  Their engines igniting in the sky, the most beautiful pyrotechnics I have seen."

"So it is here we stand today.  This spot a memorial to the place that our enemies defeated themselves.  The flowers will forever be grown here.  A symbol that this spot is where new life began.  And this statue of stone, in honor of the one who even in death continued to fight against that enemy.  Valkyrie, thank you for crafting this fine memorial."

"Day Eleven is the day in which the rain began to fall"

"Day Twelve is the day the damn broke and the flood threatened to wash us away"

"We have been waiting...  Waiting for the sun...  Day Thirteen is that day.  The sun has come, and now is our time to bloom."

END (For now?)

I hope you guys liked reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.  I honestly didn't think I would be putting as much time and personal connection into it as I originally thought.  I do have my choose adventure one, but I really would like to do another roleplay story in a while if you folks would like.  The journal style was fun, but if I do another, I am thinking of a more chapter novella story for my next.

Anyways, I love constructive feedback.  If you would like another, please share of things you might like to see.  Perhaps different presentations to the writing.  Thanks to all of you for joining in this adventure with me.

Edit:  Oh, and if any of you have questions about creating or events and scenes, feel free to ask.  The game drove the story.  Nothing had been modded or tweaked during the playthrough.

My favorite part was I wanted to make a memorial on the launchpad after I got the idea to build in the chicken pen and convert it.  Day 11 was the colony starting day and the ship was completed on Day 10.  I wanted to screenshot the memorial during a sunrise with the colonists and the rain stopped night of the 12th, making it Day 13 for the group photo.  The art I actually had not read description on until this event.  The game is what really gave me this ending.  I just grabbed the statue from the stockpile, placed it and read it as I set up the pawns....
