Recently updated the game tp 14.1238 and suddenly my colony is having extreme power issues. I first thought that I was being silly again and installed something that was extremely power hungry and hadn't planned ahead to add extra power production (wouldn't be the first time). However, after turning off all the power hungry components such as heaters, chillers, even the stove, the problem persisted.
Thats when I realized the standing lamps were now drawing 150 Watts :o .
I may just be going crazy, but I could have sworn that the lamps used to be 15 Watts. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but I think its a bit ridiculous considering that space heaters running full blast take less power use than that (100 Watts). Considering that the real world equivalent of the in game space heaters take around 1500 watts to run and real world incandescent lamps take 65 watts at most, I'm a bit surprised to see the standing lamps power use be so high. Was this an intentional change meant to discourage heavy cave style colonies, is it a legitimate bug, or has it always been this way and I need to go get my head checked out again? If someone could let me know I would appreciate it. Thanks!
TL;DR:
1) Updated game to latest Steam version (14.1238). Colony experienced heavy power use
2)Standing lamps power draw was 150 Watts
3)Standing lamp power draw to be substantially less (50 Watts at most, more likely 15)
4)Not sure how to describe how to recreate it besides making a lamp and checking the power use.
Standing lamps use 150W by default, I'm afraid. :(
Standing lamps have always drawn 150 watts. This hasn't not changed.
As the others have stated it's always been 150W. There is a mod (Efficient Lighting) that changes the power draw to 25W if you wanted to go that route.
Has anyone actually used a 150W lightbulb ? Where I live 100W lightbulbs are (were) considered strong.
There was a bit of a discussion on this in the testers sub-forum. I suggested that it's output is about the equivalent of an 80-100 watt incandescent bulb. I always thought that 150 watts was too high, but this isn't a bug it's a balance issue.

Otherwise known as a massive heater.
Add a "compact fluorescent" research option maybe? It would be nice to have a few more research options that have a significant game impact (carpets and colored lights are cool and all, but...)
Well thanks for the feedback everyone. I do find the power use to be a bit high... kinda strange that lighting is drawing more energy than the hvac system but I'll adapt. Would like to see at least a research option that can improve this though!
