Title: Jade knife
Post by: giannikampa on July 25, 2016, 03:23:21 AM
So I was modding the file Items_Resource_Stuff.xml to give jade a super sharp damage multiplier because I want it in my own rim to be kinda a valyrian steel* and i went on this: Jade counts as "stony" then you can build shivs (as a weapon) with it but you can't have knives, as long as knives are made by metallic or woody, not stony.

Still on starting of a new game a single jade knife is spawned as initial weapon. Could it be a inadvertence in programming and should we address it?

* i set it on 5 (just a resounding value) to sharp and 1.62 (aureus proportion) to blunt: jade things are pretty interesting this way (like Relics)!
[edit]
I recomend this New jade stats system based on aurea proportion (AU=1.62):
<MarketValue>6.88 (AU4)
<SharpDamageMultiplier>2.62  (AU2)
<BluntDamageMultiplier>1.62  (AU)
<Beauty>4.25  (AU3)
<MaxHitPoints>0.48  (LogAU)
<WorkToMake>2.62  (AU2)
<MeleeWeapon_Cooldown>0.62  (1/AU)

Somewhat off-topic (and yeah, the knife that cannot be crafted but is in the game is weird), but tribals should start with a jade club instead of a knife. Jade is a terrible sharp material in vanilla, but it's got a blunt bonus.

Is it possible the jade knife might be intentional and a reference to tribal religion/sacrifice?

The jade knife is kind of weird to be on the default tribal start.
jade makes a poor sharp-weapon, but it is worth loads of money - so you can sell it early to afford a considerable amount of trade-goods if you are lucky to get a trader.

In my game I just set it to a steel knife and pretend it's something they stole or raided from somewhere more civilized. makes more sense, is actually somewhat useful as a weapon unlike the jade, and isn't just lots of free money to sell. I prefer my tribals to grow from real poverty :)

I guess it could be intentional as a "sacrifical dagger" or something but... I think it just confuses people and tricks them into using a bad weapon if they don't know better. if the point was to give a valuable trade item then just add a high quality statue or something... just my 2 cent.
