Title: GAME OVER in a instant by a raid attack ..."in"... a big mountain....bug !?
Post by: Another-Frenchy on July 31, 2016, 12:41:06 PM
Hello,
I have a problem with a "raid event".
My bunker-base is  complitly destroy because a raid of meca come in the middle of a big moutain.
I don't know it's a bug, but if it's not........ i don't understand.
How the meca cross a fucking mountain ? What's the point ?
What's the point of play a lot of time if we can be killed in a instant by a big raid "in" the base !?

Please, it's just a bug ?  Someone else has the same issue ?

Screenshots would be a good idea to help us visualizen ... for example your map and painted into it the location where the Mechanopids appeared

It's a bug ?
I want start a new game, but i'm afraid of loose everything again.

No no, the raid was in a bedroom.

Drop pod raids can come through thin or constructed roofs, are you sure that bedroom are had a mountain roof?

If it did, then was the area near the edge of the map? I've seen issues with raids spawning inside bases due to them being close enough to the edge of the map, which might of caused the problem.

Yes it was a mountain roof because the roof down on the floor.
My base was in the midlle right on the map, and  the raid appeared in the middle of the base.

I don't know what to do, because i play very very hard with my 11 colonists until this ridicilus event kill them all in a instant.

You can't place any turret next to the bed because turret kill my guys....i just can't do anything.

I can't fight or protect against that ! Really I can't !
So what next ? I just game-over and restart again and again ?
For me it's a big issue.

Why not load the auto-save?  (You weren't playing in "permadeath" mode, were you?)

If you deleted your multiple save files in a rage-quit, well, that's something you can't blame the programmer for :)

Yes i use the permadeath. i Think it's the right way to play this game.

You right i can't blame the dev for my save. I don't say that anyway. :)

Since this game is still in alpha perhaps skip using permafrost mode and just make a house rule that you want use an earlier save unless/until you hit a bug?

;)  Course I'm a big fan of seatbelts too even though I make it a rule not to crash into things while driving... ;)

Most likely there was a thin rock roof or construced roof somewhere in the room. Nothing can pass through mountain roof.

yea, i agree about the thin roof. if you have a save game, we could confirm that theory. right now all we get is speculation. but in the previous alphas, most times i've seen that happening is when i overlook a thin roof and thought it was a thick roof.

even a mountain can have "thin roofs", and drop pods can land through thin roofs even if it's a mountain.

also, if you only have 11 colonists, i'm not sure you get a "big" raid of mechs that way. maybe just 4 centipedes and a couple of scythers usually less than 10. i'm not sure people can call that as "big" since you could kill mechs with just a few throws of a frag grenade, and if you can get them to stack, you can kill the stack all at the same time with the same grenades. being inside the base, you get plenty of opportunity to do that.

the destroyed thin roofs is actually a good thing in case of fire. at least players don't get cooked to death inside anymore unlike in the previous alphas where the roofs are auto-built.

You're trying to define "big" ? ???

Anyway, this raid killed my colonists when their sleep in the base. A bunker in a mountain !
I think the dev can do something for that. "don't touch the mountain with a pod" will be a great fix for a futur update.

We have turret and wall for protection, but if it doesn't work anyway, what's the point ?  You can build a restricted area(safezone) but it doesn't work if you have a raid in your base.

If it was a warning for the game, who say "be careful, next time do something" ok ! I deal with it and try to solve the problem. But here, it's just frustration ! You build and lost everything in a instant.
You can do that to a player and say it's normal.

But i'm not the only one, so i hope the dev fix that.
I'm try again and record if i have this problem again (hope not).

Thx anyway guys !

You played in permadeath mode.  You died.  You got what you wanted, there's nothing to fix here.

If you don't want your colony to get slaughtered by some random accident that you're defenseless against you need backup saves.

Remember, losing is FUN!

Enemies dropping inside your base is normal. It's purpose is to catch you with your pants down, forcing you to act quick and think of a solution. Whether it be falling back while sacrificing some important rooms or shooting a rocket launcher at the bunched enemies which also destroys the room... There isn't really an easy answer.

What Tynan could do is make it easier to tell if a roof is thick or thin. There's nothing fun about slowly hovering the mouse over every single tile in your mountain base to check if there's a hole somewhere.

Wait, were these robots or giant insects?

I think there is a thing like Edge of Map (when you using Plan Tool you can saw white lines 12-15 dots from end-map-edge). When you have a room touching this line, for raiders it's like no-wall road i think. I'm not sure but remember something like that (and you cant build there too). I always left 2-3 spaces from this white line.

I'm not sure.  No offense to the OP, but his English isn't good enough to convince me that he definitely means robots.  What he's describing sounds exactly like a normal hive attack.

^ That was my first thought too, although "bug" in the subject is what made me think insect hive.

Either way, gg, that's life on the Rim.  :)

Thanks for clarifying.  And yes, "bug" can mean "software bug" (broken code) and "bug" can also mean "insect".

English is a horrible language, for many reasons.  Sorry about that. ::)

You can blame  Grace Hopper for the other meaning for the word "bug."

Seems the lady was working with the U.S.Navy on these newfangled computer thingees and when one didn't perform as expected she was tasked with finding the problem. Back in those days code really was relocateable (in a physical sense) because programs were wired into plug-boards that could be used to make the machine do what was wanted. You guessed it! a moth had gotten into one of the plugboards and shorted something out. It really was a program bug.

Grace went on to help develop the COBOL language and eventually was made an Admiral.
