Not sure if this is more a suggestion or a bug, but I'm putting it here because I think it's currently "as-designed" rather than a true bug. Anyway:
I had a colonist join my colony early on. After a while, her father arrived and joined us. Later, her mother arrived and joined. Looking at their Social tabs, I saw that the original colonist also had a sister and that everyone in the family had a bad relationship with her. Drama! I didn't pay it much attention, though, or look too hard at it until the sister eventually arrived and joined my colony. It turns out that the sister was "staggeringly ugly" and everyone in the colony -- her family included -- had an automatic -80 (iirc) applied to their relationship with her because of her staggering ugliness.
I'm okay with the other colonists having the full negative applied to their relationship with her, but it seems weird that her own parents would also have the full negative hit to the relationship. I feel like there should be some sort of "Parent's love" or "Through a parent's eyes" type of offset for at least THIS negative trait. Especially since the negative number is SO LARGE that I can't build any kind of good relationship with her family members because the "staggeringly ugly" negative outweighs every positive interaction. Without that hit, she and her family would be quite close.
OTOH, it's kind of funny that she's so ugly even her parents are a little taken aback whenever they look at her. But maybe it should be less of a hit for family members...
Just want to say, the title of this thread made me laugh.
This said, yeah, I think family should consider looks slightly less. The old term goes "a face only a mother could love"
