Using Prepare Carefully, I embarked with a pair of arctic wolves, in a temperate biome. The female just gave birth to two timber wolf puppies.

EDIT: it gets weirder. The timber wolf puppies grew up to be arctic wolves.

Thank you for the report. Although as nccvoyager says, this is a known issue that has already been reported (although not Mantis'd AFAICT. Or at least a search for it comes up blank).

I will close this thread now as a duplicate. Edit - If this issue still exists in A16, then can you please post it in the active thread for this. Which is this one. Thanks.

Edit 2 - This should be fixed for A16.
