Title: Is there anyway to stop things being dumped in doorways
Post by: sniddy on January 25, 2017, 05:08:29 PM
I've checked it's not part of the storage but they arrive find the freezer full and dump goods in the door

You could make the doorway a stockpile that accepts NOTHING at all.  That might work.

Also, increase your storage space in the freezer :P

Leave a stockpile-less spot or three by the door inside your freezer.

I have this problem with indoor farming.  They stand in the doorway, start harvesting, and dump the rice in the doorway letting all the heat out.  I'll try the stockpile idea, that might work, thanks!

It wont do anything different than already happens.  No one will remove things from a stockpile until a "haul" job is triggered on it.  Example:  setting up custom, high priority stockpiles by a stove to facilitate cooking quickly, along with bills set to "drop on floor" will still drop meals into the nearest unoccupied tile, regardless of whether that tile is a stockpile that allows it or not.

Shurp, an answer to your problem would be to make any tiles in the greenhouse TOUCHING the door non-growing zones, which would require any colonist to fully enter the room (and let the door close) in order to touch a growing zone.  This will restrict your growing space, but with some pre-planning door locations or room shape, I THINK the impact should be minimal.

The solution is a bigger stockpile room, at least until some sort of overhaul is done so stacks aren't solely per-tile.

You do not know the pain of excess items dumping outside the stockpile till you've gotten manhunter packs that fill the freezer up so much that the butchered meat is literally going through the walls because there isn't anywhere else to go.

Some of the issues are things like "drop on floor" bills, harvesting plants, sudden drafting of pawns during hauling, pawns standing in or near doorways being "downed."

All of these issues are not solved by bigger stockpiles.  All of them have different solutions (and causes)

However, all of them could be solved by making even open doorways occupy the "stuff" slot on a tile...in other words, items wouldn't be allowed to occupy the same tile as a door when its open, just like they can't occupy the same slot as a closed door.

So a stockpile won't stop a pawn from dropping something there?  Dang.  Back to micromanaging my farmers to charge to the center of the room before they start cutting.

(Yes, the trick with putting the doors adjacent to non growing squares works, but I didn't do that in my current design.  Next time!)
