Title: Siege and caravan bugs and problems
Post by: Mutineer on April 13, 2017, 06:48:07 AM
There some bugs i notice and some big inconveniences.

Bugs:
After siege, if you straight away do not order deconstruct/claim on siege objects, like mortars/sandbags after some time this objects losing tags with let claim /deconstruct them. They become only have option to prohibit them.

I do not know is it by design, but my caravan was taking a day to move try 1 tie. Why doing that, after about 12 hours it will be attacked by pirates or manhunters. After i beat up attackes and reform caravan it teleport back to middle of the tie, again needed 1 day to move to next tie. After 12 hours it was attacked again, and teleported back again. That was repeated 4 times until it was destroyed. Basically caravan got stuck.

Inconvenience and suggestion. I have a case when my caravan was forming in extremely strange position, from which it was  a longest way to load caravan and very inconvenient to defend it in case of attack. May be add some spot, like for parties or marriages you can designate for caravan to form? And may be same way to tell incoming caravans/visitors where to stay?

Thank you for the bug report. It is preferable for players to report multiple bugs in separate threads rather than combine them into one thread (one bug, one thread). So it would be appreciated if you could do that for future bugs reports.

As to the bugs your have reported here:-

1 - Is a known issue that has been around for several alphas now. But it should finally be fixed in A17 as the route cause has now been identified (that being taking one or more of the siege party as prisoners).

2 - Caravans do move slowly. I can't recall if it's exactly 1 day for 1 tile, but they do not whiz across the map, and getting attacked so often could just be bad luck (what storyteller and difficulty setting are you using?). If you do think there is a genuine bug here then you would need to provide either a save file (this is preferable in this case) that reliably reproduced the problem. Or accurate reproduction steps of how to reproduce the issue. And for example, something like "send a caravan out and watch it be attacked" is entirely useless in this regards.

3 - A caravan forming spot has been added for A17, so this should solve this annoying issue. I don't think there is something similar planned for where visitors/traders gather at your colony, but it is something that has been requested several times over the years, so I'm sure Tynan is aware of it (and it is a request rather than anything bug-related, so the bug thread is not the place for it).

I'll leave this open for a few days in case you want to provide a save game the reproduces #2. After that I will close this thread as these are all either known/resolved issues, or WAD and not bugs.

Thanks for your reply. Actually i believe 2 is reproducible with simple definition: "After caravan attacked and reformed it considered to be in center of tie, any partial progress is lost. In case of pawn got damaged in one attack and start to move slow problem will become evident. May be save partial progress and resume from saved point after reforming?

I can accept that 4 attacks in row was just bad luck. I used Cassandra and one below extreme.

Can I please ask how mature your colony / game was at this point? And / or how "well" you were generally doing? As Cassandra can be pretty brutal in the later stages, and a lot of players find her to be pretty relentless after a certain point (especially if your colony is doing "well"). So if this was late game Cassandra, on Intense, then that volume and rate of attacks doesn't sound unlikely.

Although your note about the caravan resetting to the middle of the tile after a raid might be something that needs checking and adjusting, as that doesn't seem entirely WAD to me, and could in theory result in a caravan getting trapped in a reset loop if raided frequently enough.

1. Fixed for A17
2. It can indeed be a little bit annoying, but for now I don't see any immediate solution. We can't spawn objects between 2 tiles. Perhaps we'll solve this particular case in the future, but for now I think it's fine. Such "reset loops" happen extremely rarely.
3. Fixed for A17

Thanks for reporting.
