Title: use gpu for distance math/character processing.
Post by: samuk190 on May 18, 2017, 02:06:46 AM
use gpu for distance math/character processing.
Not only for rendering/graphics...

This will make the game run much smoothers in strong videocards, like gtx 1060, rx 470/480... and it will enable possibilities of a big map

As good of a concept as this is, it'd most likely be incredibly difficult to write for - and in alpha, performance fixing and that isn't the top priority. This may be something (or multicore utilisation) that we see some time in Beta, but while performance on most modern systems still holds up long enough to build a ship... it probably won't happen.

Gotta admit that is somewhat annoying for 2D/indie games that you have to rely on your CPU and CPU only... :C
Can imagine that it is pretty damn complicated to do, tho.

and another part of the issue is what unity allows, I have heard that unity does not utilise the extra power from video cards and even ignores the chance to use the processing power of the video cards
