Title: Linking beds to things & stockpile stack limits
Post by: Arekan on July 20, 2017, 09:23:29 PM
One of the most challenging, yet most fun things to try to do in Rimworld is to give my colonists realistic homes, with multiple rooms. In the past, I've been able to actually give colonists their own kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. (with the hygiene mod)
The issue that comes with this is the fact that other colonists and caravans enjoy busting into rooms, eating their food or using their tables. The solution to this could be to use a mod which allows you to let only certain colonists open a certain door, but that's tedious, as its entirely manual. This is more obtrusive when it comes to new colonists, or when a colonist dies and someone else takes their bed.
LOCKED DOORS AND PRIVATE THINGS
My suggestion is to allow you to select a bed, and then tie it to a door, or object, or stockpile. Whoever owns that bed will now have free access of whatever its tied to, while nobody else is allowed to use it. Multiple beds could be connected to one thing, as well.
An exception that could be made is if a colonist is interacting with another pawn, that pawn has access to the house temporarily. I know with the psychology mod, pawns will hang out with each other. This way, people could go to other's rooms/houses, but that's assuming that the mod's functions become default.
STACK LIMITS
Another thing to help with realistic homes is the ability to limit how many things you put in a single stockpile. Currently, I use the fridge mod, but I also have larger stack limits... to give each colonist their own fridge-full of food, I'd be required to make over a thousand meals. Easy solution, let me limit how many items in any given stack can exist in that stockpile.

You know my pain.  :'(

Btw. There's a mod called locked door. You can just build it on the first door of the house and set who can open it. You can assign anyone or just one person or a couple. I do it for my houses.  ;D

I do use that, but the issues come when new colonists move in, or a colonist dies. An automated system just tied to beds would be really nice.
