Title: Space Soldier Ship Crash
Post by: HsaS on July 22, 2017, 11:19:13 PM
Much like the mechanoid ship crash, there could also be a ship crash with space soldiers.

Rather than just flatout attacking your colony they'd mine the area for resources and fix their ship then they'd go away.

However you have the choice of attacking them for their laser rifles and impressive resources.

If they can't find any materials to fix their ship they'd attack you for steel/plasteel/uranium/whatever.

Thoughts?

Too punishing. Either we lose a bunch of valuable local materials or are forced to fight heavily equipped soldiers armed with laser rifles.

Interesting in theory, but I'm not sure the siege AI is up to handling it, and I don't think the powers that be want to add a whole bunch of new AI for what's basically a different poison ship.

You could say the same about psychic/poison ship drops too. The combat value of the troops would presumably be balanced around your colony like other threats, it's not like they would just stomp on you.

Well, you could drop some enemy/friendly spacers on the map,
like the first landing of the colonists ..

You can let them leave or try your luck ..

I kind of like this idea as another "neutral" event that has the potential to be become positive or negative if you act on it. Perhaps you share your resources with the spacers in exchange for the promise of supplies or assistance at a later date, delivered in the form of drop pods (but do you trust them to follow through?). Maybe one of them can even be persuaded to stay with you rather than risk another journey on their dilapidated and crash-prone ship! Or perhaps you simply attack them for their loot. Or perhaps you do nothing and allow them to repair their ship and leave quietly.

But if they auto-attack you for your resources then, as previously noted, it's just a different form of raid/poison ship, and we really have enough of those already.
