Compatibility
This mod can safely be added to existing savegames, but issues may arise if you remove this from an existing savegame if there are any plastic items, plastic, or plastic flooring present.
Will conflict with Titanium+. If you prefer this mod's version of plastic, place this below Titanium+ in the load order.
I'm not aware of any other mods that this may conflict with.

Overview
Simple Plastic is a mod that adds plastic to RimWorld as a standalone item, along with the ability to produce synthread.
Barky's Showcase! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx2KzKKRfTY)
Plastic can be obtained as follows:
- Production: Using a refinery to directly convert 70 logs/food items to 63 plastic. Somewhat quicker than converting said organics to chemfuel, then chemfuel to plastic.
- Production: Using a refinery to convert 35 chemfuel to 70 plastic.
- Trade: Purchased from bulk goods traders.
- Scavenging: Found in cargo pods.
Both production methods require 'plastic' - a 900 point, industrial level research project - to be researched.
In terms of how good plastic is as a material, it serves as an intermediary between wood and steel. It fulfills the niche of being an easily producible material in the industrial era of the game which is also fairly lightweight and therefore good for building temporary structures or the first iteration of an outpost. Plastic counts as a 'metallic' material, meaning that it can be used in the production of helmets, turrets and so on, but it's naturally going to be worse in these roles than steel.
Plastic can also be used along with cloth to produce synthread at a tailoring bench. This in turn requires a spacer-level research project to be completed, along with at least a level 8 crafter. Much like component production from steel; synthread production from cloth and plastic isn't economically ideal. 40 cloth and 20 plastic makes 16 synthread.
Finally, there's plastic flooring which requires 2 pieces of plastic and is quicker to lay than concrete, but is also ugly like concrete and slightly flammable.

Holy Crap that yello is intense.
Now Oilskin Jackets and Boots for everyone ..
European date formatting still throws me, even though it makes more sense than American formatting. I saw "06/08/2017" and my first thought was, "How the hell was this around for two months before anyone replied to it?" :P
Anyway, very cool idea, though I agree that you might want to tone the yellow down just a bit. :)
Edit: It just occurred to me. You added plastic to the game, from which things like walls can be made. Does that mean you've created RimWorld's first LEGO mod? :D
I've just made a poll anyway. In the meantime, I will tone it down quite a bit. Thanks for the feedback!
Updated to v1.0.1 (6th August 2017)
Changes:
- Reduced plastic's saturation
- Plastic has a new texture
The material sprite should simply be a pile of legos.
Other than that, it's great.

*lol* .. nope .. but I liked the lumpy one better .. the square sprite is so non-descript.
It could be a stool or a floorplate, a small table, a strange wall ..
Most plastic is stored as pellets before getting melted and pressed into it's final form.
The color looks good now, easy on the eye but still 100% unnatural :)
Updated to v1.1 (07/08/2017)
Changes:
- Plastic's now a light grey/subtle off-white colour (RGB: 210, 210, 200)
- Burnt plastic floor is now 25% of plastic floor's RGB values instead of 50%
I am *so* tempted to create an alternate wall atlas for plastic walls that looks like multicolored LEGO bricks.... :D
Updated to v1.1b (07/08/2017)
Changes:
- Plastic can now be directly made from wood and organics
- Improves time efficiency, but reduces ingredient efficiency

Noooooooooooo !
Thats not how I voted.
Someone change that ..
How hard is it to do that myself ?
I am really crappy with Drawing Tools.
@Spacedorf If you've got GIMP, it should be really easy. I've got plastic's XCF in the textures folder, and then the rest is changed through the XMLs.
Yeah, Gimp is one of the "maybe I use it someday"-tools I have on my Drive.
Another poll! This time I'd like to gather some opinions on Synthread's production length. This is a 3 day poll as opposed to the colour poll's 1 day length.
Updated to v1.2 (11th August 2017)
Changes:
- Synthread's production time reduced by 25%
Updated to v1.2.1 (6th September 2017)
Changes:
- Fixed an issue where plastic made directly from organics only required 4 ingredients
- Thanks to 2262017 for the bug report!
Is this mod compatibile with mod Titanium+ ?
It probably will conflict. If you prefer this mod's version of plastic, place this below Titanium+ in the load order.
[Edit: Added to compatibility notes section. Thank you.]
Updated to v1.3
Changes:
Updated to Beta 18.
* Various tweaks made to plastic as a material. NPCs are less likely to use equipment made from plastic.
* Synthread production is now significantly quicker.
* Various minor texture changes.
Might come in handy when the water mod barky just covered is finished.
