Title: Animal exclusion zone! :(
Post by: Scavenger on October 26, 2018, 12:01:07 AM
On larger map sizes, animals don't go to the middle of the map... They hover at the outskirts. Even on just 1 size bigger than standard. Is there a mod to fix this? Populate the map more or at least spread em out?

I have never experienced this, or at least have never noticed it.

I guess it's just one more reason to follow the advice of the devs and not use those map sizes.

New animals spawn at the map edges.

On large maps, perhaps they never wander inwards.

Also, there's simple geometry to consider.  If they're wandering around randomly, there's far more edge than there is center:

  EEEEEEE
  EEEEEEE
  EECCCEE
EECCCEE    On a 7x7 map, 40 squares are within two squares of the edge, and only 9 (20%)
EECCCEE    are within two squares of the center.  So at random, any critter will be closer
  EEEEEEE     to the edge.
  EEEEEEE

I haven't played the standard Map size since the tutorial, it may be the same way there.

You are comments about them spying on the edge and one ring randomly makes sense, I very rarely see a small animal like a rat get to the center. I have also never noticed animals going after my Farms, which I often see people complain about on forums.

However, I am looking for a fix more than an explanation haha. I'm not sure what that would look like, if they do indeed Wander randomly which seems very likely. I really wish devs put a little more time into making the map viable on larger scales. I have tried to shrink my scale as much as possible because I like a challenge and that apparently messes with the AI in the warning. But I also love my space because I believe there are more animals overall even if they are stuck near the edges! And I love my critters. Maybe if I did and animal breeding mod haha. But I don't want that to get too out of hand.
