Ehh? Am I right!
(I mean, maybe without the ugly chimney)
*Just as a back story: I've been playing RimWorld for a couple of weeks now, and I liked it very much :) In fact, I liked it so much it inspired me to finally get off my cozy sofa and make a bunch of 3D models (which I haven't done in a while) :p And as a 'thank you note', I'm posting this one for public use (there may be more).
Made in Blender

I saw a door on the side of that. It looks like it is the size of a building but great idea nonetheless.

Tx, and the building itself isn't that big (notice those valves on the pipes and the windows). I took a bunch of real life setups as a reference, so it's all good :D
Unless, of course it's a 2-story building...

I'm intrigued. Where did you get this picture?
It's pretty and all, but I don't understand what your suggestion is... to abandon the 2D top-down view and go for 3D or isometric?

Well, as a matter of fact, I made it myself - for general purpose entertainment, and decided to post it in a related place.
And I posted it in the 'Suggestions'... Well, as a suggestion, of sorts, lol. Just offering the model to the community.

You made that? Damn it is good. Have you made a fully coloured version?

No, I got lazy there :D But I posted the .blend file here (http://www.4shared.com/file/pPkvpib6ba/GeothermalGenerator3Dblend.html) so anyone willing can download and texture it themselves (I'm sure it will be better than if I did it anyway :)

I wouldn't know how to texture it. The best 3D stuff I can texture is Minecraft skins.
*wishes the actual thermal generator had walkable middle bit like in the 3D image for putting out fires*
