Title: From Space to Space
Post by: praguepride on July 25, 2014, 08:19:12 PM
Just spent the last 6 hours making the final push to launch all 18 of my colonists into SPAAAAAACE. Despite Incendinary shells falling from seigers and Mechanoids creeping into the outer most parts of the map I was able to launch at the last minute. It was awesome.

I really enjoy the "end game" aspect. I think the pieces are sufficiently expensive that it takes hours of dedicated research and construction and quite a bit of luck to keep your ery expensive pieces from being blown up the first time mortars start landing around the base.

All in all one of my favorite endings to a game. Well done good sir(s) that made this possible.

Ever think of building the ship inside or in the back of the base?

Also ever think of placing drafted colonists on the outside xD to be Mortar Bait?

Have fun with the game!
I love Incen Shells cause its easier to fix a fire than a boom.

Bury a spaceship in a mountain? Who in their right mind would do.. oh
That really reminded me about my space ship, I started building it very deep inside
a mountain with thick mountain roof above
half way through I started to realize how on earth is this thing going to fly out of here =P

thank god the game doesn't seem to care about roof when launching the spaceship

I really think that the ship should need open space to fly it would add to difficulty

Can't wait to launch my first ship, I really enjoy how the game shifts things up for the early/middle/late game, though they all have things in common you have very different concerns during each. Early it's all about food and morale, building a suitable base etc..., Mid game see's Walls and turrets becoming more and more important in the face of increased raiding, and Late game promotes resource gathering/hoarding to build the ship while keeping all your other plates from early/mid spinning at the same time.

So many Alpha's don't even have a proper "game" in them, I love that RimWorld has a purpose, something to work towards.

The only way it could be better is if it offered to let you start a new colony with the colonists you launched on a new planet. (Maybe even force them to dial the difficulty up a notch each time they make it to a new world? To keep things challenging...That is once he's separated the Storytellers from the difficulty setting, which was a great idea btw!)

Oh yeah that sort of new game + would be welcome
I don't really like building the spaceship for any other reason than to just
keep it as escape plan from that inevitable too large attack on you

Also, we need storage containers or zones we can put on the ship. So we can send our colonists to the next planet with food and metal etc...to give them a "head start". (They will need it depending on how many colonists you send off, imagine trying to provide for a dozen+ colonists from day 1 with nothing lol!)

Obviously these would be very expensive, so to store let's say 500 metal, wood, stone, etc.. in your ship it may cost 2000-3000 metal to build the container to house it. That way "Smurfing" or "Twinking" your next colony would be something you'd have to invest heavily in to with the prior colony.
