Title: RimWorld not launching on Windows 8
Post by: Cyanik on November 07, 2013, 01:19:38 PM
Earlier today, I attempted to run the game on a machine that was running an imaged version of Windows 8. When I clicked on the executable, Windows appeared to be attempting to start the game and then...nothing. No launch, no error, nothing to indicate what went wrong.

So far, it will not launch as administrator or in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or XP SP3.

Has anybody else had issues with this, and if so is there a fix available?

Alright, so after a few more minutes of testing, I might have found the problem.

Since the computer I'm running the game on is imaged with each individual user having a networked drive, the directory of the Desktop is secretly \\banner.main.<organization>\students\<username>\<profile>\Desktop\RimWorld250Win, otherwise known as a UNC path. RimWorld is not functioning when launched from this type of directory (for whatever reason).

However, when I navigate to where the Desktop is on the networked drive (Z:\<profile>\Desktop\RimWorld250Win) it works completely fine.

I don't know what may be causing this internally, however it might have something to do with how the game looks for its required resource files and various other directory elements that it needs.
