This suddenly appeared, restarting the game and reload the savegame wont work. Loading the savegame also loads the graphic error.
Starting a new game and the error is gone.
I was not doing anything special just looking how may colony grows.
See the attachment with the nice effects.

I loaded 254 today and took my first embark. There was an area in the lower right that looked fairly defensible, so I moved in to make 4 rooms along the wall.

One second later, the screen does this

I've tried restarting, reloading, but the game still totally dies.

I don't know if the game is mad at me for blocking off a side of the map or what. I'll try another game and see if it happens in those as well.
Hey! We're like bug report buddies :)
I think this is Tynans take on Dwarf Fortress ;p
What graphic cards do you guys have?
I'm running Windows 8.1 with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 660M and the latest drivers
Firstly been following this game for a while took the plunge after the pre alpha was released and i think this game has a great future.
However the latest build seems to have a game breaking bug in which a few seconds after starting a new game the graphics turn into a sorta heat map it then sticks all the names and menus on screen and causes them to multiple all over the place as you move the map. The old trick to fix the black screen doesn't work and sadly the games now unplayable.
Just to bring it to your attention
Win7 GTX770 latest drivers

I did nothing special just played the game for roughly 30-40 seconds at a time to cause this issue
My pc is running a ati 6850 card with 1 gig of ram latest drivers lintel i7 4ghz quad core and 6 gig of ram
Apologies for posting this in the incorrect forum
I'm having the same problem, alltough it takes a while before it happens for me, probally around 10 minutes or so. When it happens i also manage to get the menu up in normal graphics by spamming esc, so i can save the game and exit.
Just adding a screenshot

Yes, I'd really like to know this too!
Is this an old savegame you loaded or a new game in 254?
No brand new colony's unless merely having old saves in my folder would cause a problem ?

No it woudn't.
The savegame I posted in the thread on this I started, was a brand new embark. The graphical error started within about 60 seconds of unpausing the game.
So.. it was a new game started in 254, and this error occurred 60 seconds in. Did anything happen at that moment? Did you do anything in particular beforehand?
Merged same three issues.
Is there difference between 253C and 254?

Yes, but they are very minor. I'm looking into the urgently.

Hope on IRC if you need me for testing and want to chat directly. Will sort through the bugs. Are all the fixes you made on mantis in 254?
how odd :/
Ive yet to have any problems regarding graphics with any build... and im destroying this game as best as possible haha.
maybe a bug with the story teller? or perhaps playing the game while other windows are open? Ive had problems with other games doing this when i had internet browser, C engine and other things open at once

The only thing I did was start the game and immediately pause. Spent a few minutes looking around trying to find a good place to set up. Decided to use the far right of the screen and used the architect to plan out 4 rooms. Unpaused the game, let them run over and start building the walls. 15-20 seconds later, the screen turned orange and the game became unresponsive. I let it run a little longer, saved and quit just to see if it was a point in time glitch, but the 2nd save from the same game does the same thing. The save I actually posted, gives you about 2 seconds before the screen goes wonky.

are you playing full screen or window?
It's not actually a graphical problem. That's just what the game displays when the code breaks.
Looking into that savegame.
OK zureal, your crash is related to building right on the edge of the map. It shouldn't crash on this behavior but if you want to play right now just leave a few squares at the edge.

I'm playing windowed, but it appears that it's not a graphical error, according to the boss :)

That's pretty much what I expected the problem was. I knew it was kind of a game breaker, but it let me build there, so I did. ;D
Version: 0.0.254 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
250x250 map
Graphics card: Ati Radeon HD5770
During a "fog"-tagged weather, the fog graphics fill the screen with 100% opacity excluding colonist names and GUI. Screenshot: http://imgur.com/edqbQlM
The effect cleared when saved, quit to main menu and loaded the save again, only to reappear a moment later.

To reproduce the bug, load game, play around a while. I don't know the exact trigger, but it triggered quite shortly after opening the save, ~a minute in.

For me it happend after about 5min of gameplay.
Its a new savegame.
Here is my broken savegame:

I've had this occur to me as well. Oddly, it occurred shortly after the graphics glitch in this thread: http://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=796.15
windows 7 home premium, nvidia GT520M
heh, awesome. That planet you landed on has some serious weather issues. Unlucky for your colonists ;).
Did you build something on the edge of the map?
If so, this should be fixed in 254b.
All these are caused by building on the edge of the map, and all are fixed in 254b which I just put out publicly.
Thanks for the reports everyone! The savegames were essential.
Unplayable graphics glitches when building a wall at the edge of the map. To reproduce, start a new game or load an existing game, then build a wall at the edge of the map, it should instantly cause a major graphics issue. You can still get the [esc] menu, which renders fine, just the game area renders horribly.
This gets you the fog filling the screen issue (http://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=816.0) or the 'game looks like a heatmap' issue (http://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=796.0) depending on weather there is fog at the time or not.
Occurs with multiple storytellers.
Win7 Home Premium, nVidia GT520M
Edit: Looks like this is resolved in 254b, which was posted in some other issues while I was writing this up!
Yeah, indeed, I did build a wall on the edge tiles.
Thanks, Tynan! :) Awesome game shaping up. Good job.

if not, PM me and we can open this thread back up...
+1 Happened to me as well after a long game, complete colour pallet , in this case the whole screen turned red but i could still see the sprites as white etc

Yep, so that's what causes it?
