Ello all,
I figured that because alpha8 adds loads of new stuff its worth creating a screenshot thread.
i think one existed before but its dropped off the front page. You can take screenshots by pressing F10 and going to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld\Screenshots
My current 1 year old base on challenge mode. It is in one of the colder regions and is struggling a little with food.

Also there is a raiding party setting up just above my base

I'll just leave it here. Almost three years old colony in tundra biome (temps are -44 to 12) on casual Randy Random. This village is called Ludeon, that name was the game suggestion so I left it like this. There are ten colonists, most of them with decent skill at shooting and crafting - around ten, give or take three. No art guy tho. So far I'm doing alright without turrets and these defense walls doing their job pretty well. Most of colonists are armed with L-15 LMG and M-24 rifles. Only one guy have R4 rifle.

This is my fourth base. I'm going into winter of year 2. Cassandra at 130% difficulty. My colony just got hit with malaria - I had to turn my prison quarters into an overflow hospital, and I'm trying to build a couple of more medical beds. Kind of a weird game, I have had horrible luck with the trade ships. You can see my overflowing trade stockpiles. I buy all the metal I can every time a bulk ship comes through but they are pretty rare. Have just got my colony up to enough people to start producing art for decoration but the malaria is putting that on hold for a bit.
Just survived an attack from 4 mechs and 7 caterpillars, unfortunately they did pretty badly devistate my greenhouse but it's recovered at this point. You can see all mostly freshly replanted devilstrand.

Something I made in God Mode. I named it "Desert Fortress".

This is the colony of 19 colonists that i'm currently playing on. Vanilla. It's almost 2 years old in winter, and Rough Randy Random. There has been no fatalities yet, though one of them has been shot in the head, plus he's depressive. So he's kindof the burden in the colony ;)
Everyone is well geared with at least some basic chest armor, but most are in powersuits.

My first really succesful base after i finally learned that tower defense is best defense
I also put up a bunch of red lamps near the entrance that I activate when enemies get near to signifiy killing zone activated
It's about 3 years old I think

And this one is with a bunch of mods. Wanted a more climate challenge so I attempted starting in Tundra in January. One of the colonists came without any clothes. I can't fathom what's that like in -50 C. She didn't even lose a toe in the end (though it was close a few times)
After I finally killed enough muffalos to get parkas to everyone and prioritizing the hydroponics research, the climate became almost a non-issue
I'm waiting for a fight where a random shot sets off all the cryo-pods in the west there. Stripped the walls for materials long ago so there's nothing protecting them :P
Almost 1½ year played.

These are brilliant!
If any of you are willing to have them posted with RimWorld marketing materials I'd be appreciative. If so you could post them at the official screenshots thread (https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=3255.0).

I might post a few.
Do you need potential pictures to be cropped so there isn't menu and or other stats? :)
i'm seeing a lot off ppl not using green houses or not putting hydroponics in the optimized way for 1 grow lamp
if your struggling with food build a green house to have year round growth..
for hydroponics i use this layout greenhouse uses the same surface

That's a really good layout! Might try that out. I have been playing around with alot of different setups, and this looks like as efficient as it can get! :)
tachnically you can fit 2 more in but then i have troubles with roof supports and the middle spot where the growth light goes is open to ouside and explodes under the rain :(
it comes down to needing to block of an access point with a wall but i might try if i can support it with a door :) that might be the devious anwser that i needed to fit 18 hydroponics
Ahh yeah I see. That would be kind of a problem. Early on, I also tried using solar lamps out in fields, to try to make plants grow even during night. And of course it diden't work, while the lamp, as you said, also exploded, leaving even more problems!
Would love to see another picture if you find another solution though! :)
the pictures as is now with 16 hydro's works .Those I can get walled roofed and heated it is the 18 hydro's that pose a problem as you close some access points of by placing the extra 2
i just wish the game had a roof view to see where you have gaps
with the 16 just put walls at the 4 edges and then walkways around with full walls and a few doors
have these rooms linked and you can produce about 20 ppl's worth of food in it
I'll take a screenshot tonight and post my latest base
I have always used 18 hydroponic bays and never had issues with rain and the middle light. If your room already had a roof when there were 16, I don't see why adding the last two bays would affect the roof...

No thanks, I can crop. Just please don't post pictures with mod stuff in them.
Way to park your car dude...

Seriously how often those thing have to fall in my base, that's the second time in a row =p
I am pretty new to the game and this is a 350x map so I assume chances of it landing in my base should be pretty slim, or at least that's what I assume.

Hahaha, I know the feeling all too well mate!! They tend to land at the worst places at times! At least it is easy to set up some defences to actually destroy it!
Here's a picture of one that landede litterally at my main-door, blocking it, and even spawned scythers indoor! :D
I also had one, that landed right on my stockpile, so when I destroyed it, the materials were allready ready to be sold! :D

The bad thing about my landing is that I had about 10 centipedes and 6 sythers to deal with :c
Hehe I also had one land literally in the worst place it could land, my main defense front out of plasteel turrets ;)

Oh man... Ship parts landing behind the lines. Glad I'm not the only one:

Awkward fight, shooting at my wind farm from the wrong side of my defenses.
Also, here's an example of a stone-walled greenhouse following the contours of a rich soil patch:

Both totally disqualified for the official screenshots thread for mod content. Sorry about that.

Hey,what do you think about my design? 8)

And this is when you realize that the game is trying to end your colony...
My colony in a flat tundra biome. Still very much work in progress, but it functions quite well.
I use a different defence system to what I see mostly on this forum. I built a couple of turrets to cover open places. When my colony is under attack, my colonists withdraw to the second layer of the buildings, forcing the enemies to march through the small openings. Below a battle scene. The pirate band dropped right on my trade beacon.
My guys, armed with short range and automatic weapons easily kill all those snipers. My brawlers wait in the buildings for a chance to get close to the enemies.
When a colonist is overrun, he can always enter a building, and even sneak out through the back if necessary. The doorways also are a great place to take cover.
The aftermath:
Score: 9 pirates dead, one wounded. One got away. 2 colonists slightly wounded.
My colony is a bit of a mess, but I thought this strategy does not get enough attention.
This is on rough (60%), Cassandra.
I have also battled mechanoids like this, 4 centipedes armed with charge blasters and a minigun. I don't know how it would hold up against scythers or inferno cannons, but I am optimistic.
P.S. I am taking screen shots with F10, but the UI still shows up. Is that supposed to happen?
F9 or F11 toggles show/hide UI.
