Title: Real-life depictions of sculptures!
Post by: muffins on March 05, 2015, 03:17:38 AM
Some of the sculptures created by colonists are quite funky so I'd thought I'd start a thread for sculptures rendered in real life.

This is just for fun so they don't have to be masterpieces. Stick-figures crudely scrawled in Paint is just fine.

This is my take on an odd sculpture in my current colony.

http://blackpanzerdragon.deviantart.com/art/Hugs-by-Takeru-RimWorld-scupture-518116272 (http://blackpanzerdragon.deviantart.com/art/Hugs-by-Takeru-RimWorld-scupture-518116272)

I'm speculating that during a food shortage a Void God by the name of Takeru decided to aid my colony by striking down a wild boar with a lightning bolt, and turned it insane so that it wanted to be eaten. The burning boar must have ran to the edge of my colony and started rolling about happily at the thought of being eaten. Then Takeru said "Hugs" and disappeared back into the Void.

/wild speculation

Quick one before work.

Did Murphy think he was bagging himself a wife or something?  :-\ Whatever the case might be, Mallard has been in my prison for a year and refuses to be recruited. It probably doesn't help that that creep Murphy keeps sneaking into the prison to talk to her.

Anyway, RimWorld in a single picture there lol  :P

I think Tynan or whoever write these description will have to be careful in the future.
It could be aesthetically dangerous.

These are amazing muffins, you're a genius :D

I'd love to see you try and do one of the sculpture-within-a-sculpture pieces my colonies occasionally churn out.. where the second sculpture is about making the first sculpture!

Is it just me or does the "Capture" event often get paired with words like "erotic", "love" etc? Maybe Tynan's into leather and whips eh? ;)

Also, these are amazing. I should try to ham up something in Paint, but it ain't gonna be pretty...

muffins has talent, even if i could draw something with GIMP, i don't think i could perceive depths and angles and whatnot to create anything that would actually make sense. I always end up drawing a dickbutt or something if i happen to grab a pencil.

If any shrinks read that, i don't need your analysis.

I made it all the way to this sentence before I totally lost it.  The sculpture itself is funny, and your take on it even more so, but that description is the icing on the cake.  Looking forward to seeing more!

I just got the animal rolling on the floor laughing manicaly whilst burning art depiction. Except it was a deer and it was nearly naked.

Deerhide pants were off, perhaps a little warm from the fire and it was rolling around having a good time. Love to know what the uncountable otters were thinking.

I love this thread XD I had to try making at least one of these.
I can't believe I wasted so much time making something so ridiculous.
It's not super great because I cut a lot of corners.
I chose to desaturate the emu's color, it detracted from the overall image and took away from the statue feeling.

This was a visitor who managed to path through some fire and catch alight. At its peak the fire-size was over 150 and I didn't think that she would survive. However, she managed to put the fire out after several attempts and even managed to reach the edge of the map.

No less than two of my grey markers ran out while colouring this so the end result isn't as nice as I'd like it to be.

[Speculation]

This depicts "Red", a famous pirate slasher. The story goes that when he was still a baby he was playing on the shore of a lake with his favourite toy pirate ship when a salmon grabbed it and made off with it. Now you know pirate slashers. If they see a turret they want to stab it, if they see a centipede (essentially a tank with legs) they want to stab that too. If there is a granite door between them and what they want, they will stab their way through the rock door to get at it. So little Red grabbed his mothers shiv and jumped into the lake whereupon he stabbed the salmon to death. He then proceeded to stab all the salmon in that lake. Every ... single ... one.

When his pirate parents found him again he was trying to stab the lake itself.

I was very pleased that Night decided to create this sculpture since there is a bit of a story behind it.

Checking the injuries of the new prisoners after a raid I found that one of them, Sherman, had her jaw blown off. Being human I felt terrible for her having suffered such an appalling injury. That has to be one of the nastiest injuries in the game.

I immediately ordered the installation of a prosthetic jaw.

Of course this is RimWorld so of course the surgeon started laying into poor Sherman with his Cleaver of Healing, hacking off her hand in the process. Of course he did. Of course he did!

Wow did I feel bad. You try to help someone in need and your idiot colonists find some way to make things worse.

A full bionic arm was quickly, but expensively, obtained and was waiting for Sherman as soon as she was recruited, which thankfully wasn't long. Now she's a really good civilian constructor in the colony.

I'm guessing that Sherman is writhing and shaking in the sculpture because she knows for a fact that my colonists are morons, and that she might wake up with two peg-legs rather than a bionic arm.

Thankyou! It's incredibly tough to squeeze a lot of detail onto a sheet of A4 when you're using pens and markers. Pencils are easy for detail, but pens and markers are like using crayons on a post-it note lol

I use Copic Ciao markers mostly. They are awesome. They're expensive if you want a big set of colours (I maintain a collection of 144 colours), but they are re-fillable and the cheaper types are perfectly fine too. Copic markers have very nice pressure sensitive nibs though, so with a bit of practice the same marker can to very fine and very thick lines.

Link to a big uncompressed photo (click to expand) -

http://imgur.com/ReiwMGX (http://imgur.com/ReiwMGX)

If you try markers out don't bother with bleed-proof marker paper because you want the pigment to bleed through the paper. As long as your current brush-stroke touches you last still-wet stroke they will blend together giving you a fairly even colour without visible lines.

This sculpture depicts a scene described in a popular song called "The Beast of Want" by the famous pop singer "Min". The song touches upon the periods of hardship that frequently strike colonies that exist out on the rim, where even basic necessities become scarce seemingly overnight, and metaphorically ascribes their cause to "The Beast of Want", a gnu-like creature that will "... come a-visting while we sleep ..." and leaves "... nothing but barren dirt in his wake."

Here we see the solitary Jerbear stalking it's favoured prey, the chocolate hare

Watch as it prepares to deliver the killing strike,

*BANG*

Unfortunately, the RNG don't always go in your favor.

This Jerbear may have failed to hunt down his intended prey,

But instead, RNGods have blessed it with a decent alternative: The Innocentin Bystanderus.

Allowing it to live on with a full hunger bar

At the cost of negative 20 mood pts...

But you do all you can to survive in the wild, wild Rim...

[speculation]

This piece depicts a bit of amusing local history where during a psychic wave a visiting astrogator (which is a space navigator, not a space alligator, though I'm sure there's nothing stopping a space alligator from becoming a space navigator should he apply himself to the rigorous training programmes required for that profession) lost his mind and began punching up the local wildlife. Now, usually this is a bad idea since some of the larger types of wildlife can easily bring down a human, especially if they work as a pack (we've all herd of the cautionary tale of the solitary hunter that was beaten to a pulp by a herd of enraged deer), however our astrogator was no baseline human and managed to punch a whole herd of enraged manhunting llamas to death with his bionic powerclaw. The locals were very happy with this result and dubbed our astrogator friend "The Victor" in honour of this epic fight, and after he calmed down a bit, purchased him many rounds of beer.

[speculation]

Out in the far west there is an unfortunate town called Black Plain where lives a strange man that the locals call "The Gardener", though calling him either a "man" or a "gardener" is probably a lie now. He was an enthusiastic believer in improving human potential through bionic technology so every bionic upgrade he could have had done, he had done,  and every bionic upgrade he should not have had done, he had done anyway. Though this helped him in his gardening profession, suspending his brain in a bath of synthetic stimulants to remove the need for sleep was probably what drove him mad in the end. Now he "gardens" the town's population instead, and being a seven-foot bionic monster encased in power armour, no-one can put a stop to his deadly whims.

"Yessss! A snip here, a prune there, and Black Plain will be perfect! PERFECT!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

I cannot express how much I love the game or how much I love to draw, so doing RimWorld doodles is like finding bacon flavoured ice cream at the store. So much win!

Now he "gardens" the town's population instead, and being a seven-foot bionic monster uncased in power armour, no-one can put a stop to his deadly whims.

"Yessss! A snip here, a prune there, and Black Plain will be perfect! PERFECT!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

[/speculation]

Oh lawd the inking took forever on this one. Bigger version on DeviantArt (http://blackpanzerdragon.deviantart.com/art/Black-Plain-RimWorld-sculpture-590869278).

Oh god that's gorgeous...

Any reason the speech bubble is introduced into the scene on a white flag, or is that just for coolsies?

It was a grand artistic sculpture so a speech bubble didn't seem grand or artistic enough. So flag. Yay.

The flag is actually pink, but my scanner is ancient and hates red shades :/

Nah. Once you reach Maker's level fatalities will sometimes happen. Ever check-mated someone so hard in chess that an ambulance had to be called afterwards?

Liefe had a gerbil that kept escaping her room. One day they discovered that her gerbil had gotten into the food stockpile, much to the annoyance of the other colonists. Rodents you see poop and pee where they eat, and Liefe's gerbil had been eating and pooping and peeing in the food stockpile. When confronted by the other (quite angry) colonists, Liefe tried to make light of the situation by claiming that Mr.Fluffykins had merely gone on a fun adventure seeking hugs, and that everyone was just over-reacting and being angry over nothing.

That just resulted in angry glares from the other colonists ... and this sculpture.

These are great! I love reading about the sculptures! (my current colony portrays a lot of dead chickens it seams. we have  bit of a chicken overpopulation problem- its a good problem for when we get low on food. hence all our 'slaughtering chicken' sculptures)

When a pirate gang recruits a new memeber they don't do it with pleasant chats over coco. No. They're much more direct than that. Using intimidation, violence and specific drugs they will implant a very limited number of thoughts into the minds of their victims. Thought 1 might be "Shoot Stuff!", thought 2 might be "Burn Stuff!", thought 3 might be "Loot Stuff!" and so on and so on, and once fully programmed these poor souls are let lose like expendable drones to attack townships and tribes alike.

This is why it takes so long for a warden to undo the damage done by the pirates and recruit these poor abused souls to our colonies and why colonists become unhappy if their organs are plundered, or are turned into hats.

Thankyou. Though on a scale of 1-20 my art skill is only 6 or so lol.

Doing a rifle is a problem. On a sheet of A4 a rifle drawing will be as wide as a pen leaving little room for art, and I'm not keen on doing a close up since it would only be of the stock or just the area forward of the fire group. I might draw something shorter or a sculpture maybe though.

The cook recently suffered a critical fail while making a simple meal, which was eaten at the party the night after. After quite a bit of good-natured ribbing, everyone wanted the event "properly commemorated" in stone. Unbeknownst to the rest of the colony, the artist had a crush on the baker in question, and added the eroticism as their own fanservice.

[/speculation]
Best I got, sorry.

Lumi is a miner in my colony. She spends most of her days deep in the mines, mining ores in the dark all by herself, only seeing other people again at meal times or during raids. To keep her mind off the crushing loneliness, Lumi daydreams about romantic situations while she works. Princes, princesses, fairy-tail castles and so on. Then one day she came back from the mines babbling like crazy while wearing a strange look upon her face. Apparently there was a tree, and a prince, and goldfish down the mine. Lots of goldfish. Hundreds of goldfish swimming up and down the passageways as if the air was water.

To the amusement of the other colonists it turned out that she had been mining neutroamine pockets and the vapours in the enclosed space had sent Lumi a little loopy that day.

Neutroamine veins? O_o That must have been some heavy dosage. To see hundreds of golfishes in the mine. As always - its damn amazing visualisation. Keep it up :)
