As much new content, and a UI change, I sure hope the bug catching and fixing are in high gear, as september 1 is quickly approaching. Would hate to have major bugs still in the game when Tynan leaves for his sabbatical.

Yes, yes there is.
So how long it is will depend on the bugs that are found and how long they take to fix.
But I would say it is a very good chance it will be before Tynan goes on a break.

How often does anyone ask about the sequel to RimWorld? Maybe it can come out before A12 since it's not asked about nearly as much.
Noooooo! oh well, Tynan did a great job and he deserves a break. Well I guess if A12 is far off I still got a lot of things to do in the meantime like Grim Dawn and Prison Architect release and Factorio as well as some starbound updates here and there. Reading the upcoming animal husbandry update makes me go nuts being huge harvest moon fan and loving animals.
It is coming up soon though, historically speaking, once the call for public testers arrives, which it has, we usually have one or two weeks before the main release.

Oh, not to worry. Tynan has helpers now. So the game will still run when he's not around. You see when he leaves normally you'd only get a black screen because he's not there to run the game. But now one of his helpers will actually crawl inside the game to keep it running.
But Tynan has locked himself up developing the game to this point and is finally going outside. So you should go outside too. You never know, you just might run into him. Even if you live in another country, he could be going anywhere in the world, perhaps even your neck of the woods.
That is unless a toxic fallout starts making it unhealthy to be outside for too long.
I think having the game not change for six months will be a great boon for mods - new mods for the new features and many outdated mods will finally catch up. So between the new vanilla features and imminent mods we'll have plenty to to keep that joy meter up.

1 to 2 weeks before release, and tynan goes on sabbatical in less than 2 weeks...
And we all know that there are bugs, big bugs found after the release.
Sure hope the helpers can squash those bugs that are found after the release.
Well this is disheartening. I was really hoping to get to play with the Piotr features soon (and of course animals). I was feeling like stretching my modding muscles once more and going bananas with those features once they made it to release.
Why is it disheartening? From reading the above it sounds like the release of a12 will happen soon, why so glum chum?

Because a13 will then be at least 6 months away...
One of the points when it comes to a solo developer, when they take a holiday, the whole project holds.
Ofcourse all respect to Tynan for working so hard, but it is one of the things what I don't like about small development teams, I have seen it happen more often, for example Banished.

Tynan already stated A12 will be released before his leave of absence.
*edit* Ah dang wtf, he responded to my post I made a month or so ago and stated he would be around a while and release at least 1 to 2 more patches before leaving. I just checked the news page and apparently that's changed and we may not even get A12 :(. I would be pretty disappointed/ borderline irritated as well.

The game doesn't feel like it's finished at all, that is one of the points why there are so many (simple?) mods like vein miner, edB Interface, or the many surgery mods.
The game is still in alpha, so who knows what happens when the game is fully released. But I always get flashbacks to other games, as one of my earlier examples, Banished, or DayZ. Many things that were promised are still not there, if it actually will be in the game.
I keep my hopes up, and keep supporting the game with ideas and bugs, so Tynan can keep on working a very fun and easy to come in game. I am really curious about the list which he has that he is going to implement in the game.
This game is already as feature-complete as many AAA titles with a faster development time and better support. Honestly, a bit of a break would probably be a good thing for Rimworld.
Things have been moving at a lightning-fast pace lately, and several mods have struggled to keep up. A break would give modders time to catch up, keep pace, and get ahead a little as they work.

I can't say much about the testing process, but I can say for certain you'll be getting A12 before Tynan leaves. :)

Yeah, I doubt Tynan would not release alpha 12 when there's already public testers, and one of em would probably end up releasing it if Tynan left for half a year.
I'd imagine he'd give himself a few days to spare, in case any missed major bugs are found between A12 and his hibernation.
I'd guess (GUESS) we'll see A12 before Tuesday.
