Has anyone played some good old C&C lately,. Because I opened my old game book( I mean haven't touched it in years, it covered in dust) and saw Command & Conquer Tiberian Dawn ( I feel old ). So poped it in my computer and played some, Some how I sat there for Four hours playing it. :P
Recently bought this. :)
Remembered playing Red Alert and the original C&C back in the day, so when I saw that, I just had to buy it!

Yep, I've seen that in stores, I got that to, only to realize I have all of them of disc .
Yeah, it's a shame it's not on a disc, I've got a few of the older ones and Generals on Disc and I've been trying to track down a few of the newer ones that I couldn't find in stores, and it was $15, so why not?
They're all apparently updated to a point where they can be run on Win7 without unofficial patches.
Have you tried looking in GOG.com?
Nah, Try to avoid the online retailers when I can, Internet being 0.5 MB speeds at best, discs are always preferable, less to download. :)
I weep for your internet, Coen.
Don't. There's a guy on the forums with even worse. ;-; I weep for him...

explain this game to me.
I think I am a generation ahead of this game and would like to know more. I
could just look it up but am too lazy
Before (and well after) Starcraft there was C&C. It's an RTS with an alternative history/sometimes sci fi story.

For the Technology of Peace.
I have always been a fan of CnC games. My first two games ever were Tiberium Dawn, and Dune 2000(which was done by the same company).
Just because it hasn't been said already, Westwood released Red Alert & Tiberian Sun for free, and you can legally download them. Check 'em out!
There is a mod for RA3 that uses the original RA units. Cant remember the name but its a lot of fun.
I have an old PC games magazine with a preview for the first C&C in it. It has a screenshot of the terrain in the game, showing trees and a flowing river, with the caption under it saying something to the effect of "This game uses satellite imagery to create almost photo-realistic terrain graphics." And young teenage me looked at that screenshot at the time thinking "This is the greatest thing I've ever seen."
Oh how our perceptions change.
yeah, still can't believe how pretty games are now. :'(
(A.K.A The Witcher)
C&C was a great game for the time. It was bested by Warcraft 2 some months later, but it was still a good RTS that gave you something different than Warcraft 2. With its setting, graphics and rush mechanics. Was a good time to be alive when that genre was being pushed forward, Age of Empires also deserves a note, Starcraft eventually dominated that segment and then RTS seemed to die off in favor of simpler games for simpler people.
"Control 50 units? I only can control one soldier, in first person, in cinematic story mode where I just click the mouse button to progress the "game" " ;) Part of games being accepted by a wider (and dumber) audience that happened in the 90s and early 00s that is just accepted as fact these days.
"AI? What's AI? Our track mounted and perfectly scripted robot soldiers are just what the project leader ordered!"
C&C Was and still is amazing, although I'm super dissapointed by what I bought a few posts up, got around to downloading it and the files on the newer games don't work, but the older games do. Amazing
Maybe we were 10 or 12 when played C&C, now being 30 :) I thought a few years ago to giove a few rounds again, but not having the game I tried abandonia. To my hugest immense suprise, they had the copy where our high-scores were included. It was astunning experience :D You know, at that time only floppy was the USB-and-internet :D
Would there be a way to lan this with people? I kinda got the urge to play and I want to play with humans
Google makes it look like that's possible. Here's one result:

Looks very promising. Now I just have to find that darn CD.
EA acquired Westwood and released a bunch of the old games as freeware1. Which makes this link legal:

You're welcome :)

Those slimy bastards. They released online as "freeware" hahaha
This is so awesome.
I remember watching the fully rendered trailer for C&C over and over again.
Freude schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium. Wir betreten Feuertrunken himmlische dein Heiligtum.
( one of the few classic tracks I know the full lyrics :) )

Dang. I remember a few years ago downloading the full and complete C&C:Red Alert directly from the maker's website. I wondered why I couldn't find that same link now. Maybe that was before Westwood was acquired by EA?

I was able to get RA1 from there but not everything listed there is givinf the game for free. Kinda bonkers they are still charging 14.99 for RA2.
