Adds basic animal surgeries and bionics to Rimworld

This mod is fully compatible with Expanded Prosthetics and Organ Engineering

Following parts are added to the game:

  • animal brain stimulator. Fits all animals.

  • bionic animal eyes. Fits all animals.

  • bionic animal heart. Fits all animals.

  • bionic animal lung. Fits all animals.

  • bionic animal liver. Fits all animals.

  • bionic animal stomach. Fits all animals.

  • bionic animal kidney. Fits all animals.

  • simple/bionic animal ears. Fits all animals.

  • simple/bionic animal jaw. Fits all animals.

  • simple/bionic animal spine. Fits all animals.

  • simple prosthetic/bionic animal arms. Fits monkey and megatherium.

  • peglegs. Can be crafted with 1 wood. Fits all animals. Least efficiency.

  • simple prosthetic/bionic animal legs. Fits all animals.

All parts can be obtained from traders, except peglegs.

All parts can be crafted at the included Animal prosthetics table. Crafting requires a skill of 5-12, depending on part.

Simple parts are slightly lower in efficiency than natural parts. Bionic parts are higher.

Simple/ bionic legs, arms and jaws do melee damage now, depending on type.

All parts need medicine skill and 1 medicine to be installed. Please check medicine restrictions in you animal's health tab. Simple parts need a skill from 4-6, bionic parts need a skill form 8-10 to be installed.

Make sure to delete your old mod folder before any update.

Also added to github release:

Lite version (adds only limbs) // NoCrafting Version (no crafting at machining table)

EPOE Compatibility patch

Move all recipes to EPOE benches and remove the skill requirements to be on par with how EPOE works.
The cost values have been modified to be on par with EPOE's costs too

You need to use the NOCRAFTING version with this, and make sure you load the patch after both mods.

Hi!

So, I'm using the no crafting version of this mod, but the bionic animal body parts still show up in the bills list of my machining table. I switched from the full version to the no crafting version but it still lets me craft the bionic animal parts.

Did you delete the old mod folder before installing the new one? If you didn't then you're probably still using some files from the full version and that's why you can see the recipes.

Yes, I did. I deleted ADogSaid-master and replaced it with ADogSaid-A15-nocarfting. Does Rimworld cache any recipes somewhere?

Sorry mate, that was our mistake! Some files in the github nocrafting release got mixed up we'll fix it as soon as we can! In the meantime, if you're able, use the steam nocrafting version that one should be fine.

edit: or better yet, if you don't use steam and don't want to wait, just delete the "Recipes_AnimalParts.xml" in /Defs/RecipeDefs folder. It will make the parts uncraftable. :)

Hey, thanks for the response. Since I try to avoid steam wherever possible, I'll do it myself. Keep up the good work.

I really like this mod, it's super useful and very welcome for my poor animals, but one thing I'd like to ask: Is it possible to remove these parts from the traders entirely, and make them crafting-only?

I don't mind being able to buy them, but it seems like the animal parts totally drown out any human bionic parts' chance to appear, so I very rarely see them anymore. Or is that just my imagination?

I tried adding a tradeability line in the Items_AnimalBodyParts.xml, as follows, and it seems to have done the trick, but I'm a rank amateur at modding Rimworld, so I don't know if this is safe?

<ThingDef ParentName="BodyPartBase" Name="BodyPartAnimalArtificialBase" Abstract="True">
    <thingCategories>
      <li>BodyPartsAnimalArtificial</li>
    </thingCategories>
      <tradeability>Sellable</tradeability>
  </ThingDef>

Hi there,

OK I'm really not sure about the meaning of the tag you used (I already saw it in the code but never been able to be sure what it does exactly).
Now if that's work like you want it is OK.
Else here is how I would proceed if I were to disable them to be sold : in Defs/ThingDefs_Items/Items_AnimalBodyParts.xml at the very beginning of the file you just have to erase this bit :
<tradeTags>
<li>BodyPartOrImplant</li>
</tradeTags>

Hi, I'm not sure if I am at the right address here, but I might have either found a bug, or need help with my mod list.

Using the mods and order listed in the attached picture, I don't seem to be able to treat animal injuries (right clicking on an animal while having a doctor selected doesn't give any options). In the bills menu i still have the option of adding animal prosthetics, so the mod is at least working in some fashion.

I haven't found anything similar in the issues tracker on the github, but wanted to post here first incase I missed something or its a known issue.

Thanks in advance.

Which animal injuries do you want to treat? Pretty sure this mod is all about animal prosthesis and doing bills, you're not gonna treat your dog's runny nose with it afaik.

Yep, as Dingo said, this is not how this mod works.

With this you'll be able to add surgery operations (in the health tab) for adding several bionics/prosthetics body-parts to animals but it doesn't permit to heal with a right-click as you described.

Your problems are almost guaranteed not to be because of A Dog Said. It could happen if you installed all of those mods without making a new save, or maybe EPOE is doing something weird.

I would try making a new colony with your current configuration and testing again, sometimes you can't install mods on an existing colony without it causing issues.

You can always just disable a specific mod, reload the game and start a new save. That way you can pinpoint where the problem is coming from and report to the mod author.

Is there an A15 compatibility patch with EPOE somewhere? So all the stuff can be crafted on the EPOE benches. I know there was one for A14, but I don't think it has been updated.

If it is somehow confirmed that the other one is "dead" I can do it. We had kind of a "clash" with the add-on author at first because of a misunderstood (I was too harsh in the way I talked, that's all) so I don't want to step on his toes  :-X

well I wrote to the guy and he hasn't answered in forever so...I guess we can just go ahead and make our own addon? If he comes back and isn't okay with it we can still take it down.

Question, does having this mod installed make it less likely that traders will have human prosthetics?  Because they're like, competing for the same slot in the trader inventories, or something like that.

simply put, yes. The "pool" of available prosthetics from which to choose (for the trader) gets bigger so the chance for human prosthetics drops.

Hello, there very big problem with this mod. Amount of organs, that exotic good traders bring with them self, remains the same. So before I could buy 1-2 bionic human arms/legs atleast every time when traders came. After installing mod the traders bring the bionic animal organs instead of human organs. So I have only 1-2 bionic human organs per 7-8 traders, not per 1-2 as before. It is very big problem and this crash the balance, because need of human organs much MORE than animal organs.

You should (imho):
1) Remove the animal organs from traders (not very good solution)
2) Make another goods category for animal organs, so amount of animal organs will not affect the amount of human organs that the traders has with them.

Thanks. But your mod ruined my game. I don't use mod to create bionic parts so I can buy them only. And now I can't buy them because of their lack.

And now my saves don't work after turning OFF "a dog said ... Lite". I've sold all animals with bionic organs from this mod, I've sold all bionic organs that I made. I distracted my workbench. And still the saves don't work without this mod. There are the logs:
Could not load refernce to Verse.HediffDef named BionicLegAnimal
Exception from asynchronous event: System.InvalidOperationException: SaveableFromNode exception: System.InvalidOperationException: SaveableFromNode exception: System.InvalidOperationException: SaveableFromNode Not all LoadlDs wich were read were consumed. 41 singles and 41 lists remain.

What is going on??

Like lots of other mods, we can't insure savegame compatibility as is. How do we know which mods folks will be using, are they using our mod or the modified by Aristocat (per example or anyone else on Steam) etc ... We have never said that the mod is save-compatible (like a lots of mods it require a new game) So, no problems, your welcome...

Now, several things : Thanks for the feedback about traders, we will search a solution (surely something around like you said or a another completely new traders; either way I foresee that no decisions will please everyone - and that's why we choose to make traders like that in the first place, I mean it was a decision, not a bug or an error)

About your savegame : Are you comfortable enough with a bit of coding (mostly search and erase lines) so I just explain how to try to save your savegame? Or do you prefer to send me the savegame for I try to clean it from our Hediffs?

What is going on??
we will certainly look into the trader issue soon. Now regarding your save, the game still seems to want the recipes even if everything is gone, unfortunately save for cleaning up your save file and manually removing all reference to the mod there is nothing you can do. I can however offer you a possible quick and dirty fix so you can load your save again with the mod and not have the trader problem (as long as you are using any other version than NoCrafting)
You'd have to go into your mod folder and modify the Items_AnimalBodyParts.xml by removing
      <tradeTags>
         <li>BodyPartOrImplant</li>
      </tradeTags>

from it. this way the parts won't be carried by traders and at least you can play your save again with sufficent human parts until we have a more permanent fix for the traders.

edit: I just saw kaptain already answered xD

Hey no problems. I may have been a bit harsh in my reply, sorry.

But I consider it normal to at least try to repair your savegame. Doesn't works each time but when you are used to it's not that long to do.

Apparently Hiroki the husky had a bionic leg (I had to remove it from the save, so the dog may be doomed, sorry) but i will try to do some voodoo (can't promise)

Really thanks for that! It solved the problem at all. Now I can play the game with your mod. Really thanks! :)

And thank you too for your attention. Sorry, but I used spoonshortage's advise and removed the mod from traders' lists of goods. But still thanks for your help too :)

Is it impossible to castrate animals? I'd expect to have that from this mod but it seems I can't, so I'd imagine the game doesn't support that yet?
I really want my animals to stop banging so much, but I don't wanna sell all males/all females 'cause some of them have bonds with my colonists.

Maybe I'm missing something in the process, but I got a monkey with a "shot off" right hand due to a friendly fire accident.  So, I crafted an animal bionic arm since there's no specific "hand" prosthesis, and then created an operation bill to attach the arm.  One of my medical pawns performed the surgery, but upon completion of the surgery, the monkey still has a missing right hand that's "shot off" and its manipulation is still "poor."

Did the surgery fail?  If it did, there's no indication.  It's not acting any different from my other monkeys and animals, and there's no evidence of the surgery ever occurring according to any of the info tabs.  Oh well, it doesn't really matter because monkeys don't do much of anything... but this whole procedure was strangely anti-climactic and seemingly a waste of time/resources.

Am I missing something?

are you sure the surgery was successful? bc they can fail like with the human surgeries...idk what else to tell you I tried it myself with a monkey who had a missing hand and it worked as it should:

Yes, that must have been what happened: the surgery failed.  But like I said, there was no indication of this.  I tried doing the whole process again, and it worked just like your example.   Thank you for the reply.

A16!
until Kaptain finds the time to update the Githhub,
you can find the A16 full version either here (dropbox) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/c9dg86x9r5rw083/ADogSaid_full_A16.zip?dl=0) or at the steam workshop (same link as before)

Lite, NoCrafting and epoe- versions will follow later.

Is this because you are waiting for EPOE to update, or do you plan to just update yourself? Thanks so much for the work to update A Dog Said.. !

Edit: Just a heads up, someone made a quick short-term update to EPOE if you're curious. It's in the EPOE thread on the forums here

I updated the mod to A16, here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/epsfz3t6u2mmzni/A16%20ADogSaid.rar?dl=0) you go. Note that this is an unofficial update, problems might occur; If they do, that sucks, wait for the official update.

Mazacik, the mod has already been updated to A16 days ago...I posted it here: https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=24578.msg286073#msg286073
I will update the smaller extra versions after the holidays.
Also I'm not sure which version exactly you updated in your files but it looks nothing like the current ADogSaid xD

Oh wow, you're right, for some reason that was the version I was using the entire A15. It works, though :P Also, you say the mod was updated to A16 days ago, it might be a good idea to post it on the main page, people (me) may not notice a comment saying it was updated.

Missing In Action, it started out as a military term to describe someone who went missing (but not AWOL), now thay use the term "unaccounted for" instead
