Description:

inspired by mod Medieval Times (https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=22316.0), this mod adds some additional ancient asian weapons. If you have any further interesting weapons want to add just leave a comment. ;)

List of added melee weapons:

- Feng-Huo-Lun
- Kabutowari
- Ninjato
- Kukri
- Kris
- Chui

- Jian
- Dao
- Dah
- Kampilan
- Katana

- Bo
- Naginata
- Yari
- Ji

List of added ranged weapons:

- Blowgun (shoots poisoned darts)
- Shuriken
- Chu-Ko-Nu (shoots 4 arrows)

The graphics look really good. Personally I'm not really for the whole "folded a gorillion times katana", though. Historically speaking, the katana was not functionally 'better' than a European longsword. The reason weapons in feudal Japan took so much effort to make was largely due to poor ore quality that required a lot of purification, and also its scarcity (hence wooden armour). The curvature of the blade allowed for a better cut with a swing, but the longsword's sheer length and weight largely made up for the lack of a curved cutting edge. A straight blade also allows for more controlled parries than a curved blade, and this is evident in medieval swordplay tactics. Despite common belief, a katana was perfectly capable of effective stabs; hell, I've seen modern videos of it punching through steel plate. Of course, the European longsword was also fully capable of piercing attacks and typically at a greater length.

To sum things up the katana wasn't a super amazing sword, it had its strengths and weaknesses like many other melee combat weapons.

good point, i guess i got wrong impression from R. Lee Ermey (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDkoj932YFo). However almost double the workamount for 0,55 more DPS seems balanced to me.

PS: after some youtube research i will say katana is sharper but more fragile, longsword is more durable. so i guess some extra DPS for katana makes sense, maybe i should also put a higher deterioration rate to katana as balance.

That's a good point, realism always should stand aside to gameplay mechanics/balance.

I like that this didn't turn into a pissing match about swords. Also yes, very nice looking mod.

When are you going to update high caliber? I love that you're adding different variants of weapons, but your high caliber mod hasn't received any updates in quite some time, and I think adding different types of guns would really bring it to the people's attention.

Most lovely. Now I can fight at range with melee tribesmen with such deadly polearms, and my ranged fighters can have cannons!

I decided to look around some more, and found a few more weapons that might pique your interest. Admittedly, these might not all be considered truly medieval, as some might by from slightly earlier or later time periods.

Japanese:

These should be fun! By the way, found a website you might find interesting, as it appears to go into detail about various weapons from the Ming dynasty and such. I found it while looking up the grenade.

I love how you looked into the actual names of the weapons. Zhen stands for earquake, tian stands for sky, and lei stands for lighting. The chinese actually used to use these in combat as hand grenades during the 13th century.

Amazing Texture and the Damage are balance and the range weapon are balance damage and great texture and the melee weapon balance damage but some of weapon are not balance the damage and the hwacha are amazing they Launch many arrows to the enemy and i will wait for the next update for this mod

Version 1.15.1

Melee Weapons : 9.4/10
Range Weapons : 9.7/10

Average 9.6/10

P.S : this rating can be change on next update and also Keep a Great Work  :)

i just checked, there are some yellow sound errors. they are harmless but i will try fix them tomorrow.

There is an incompatibility with Medieval Times... When i have the two active at the same time Colonists heads became invisible.

Nice mod, the art is well done. Would be could to see some armor (samurai especially) to go along with the weapons, just a suggestion though.

Do you plan to make some clothes from asian culture?

A ninja custom or that straw hat ("sharp razor blade hat" from Kung Lao for example) would be great additions.

Is anyone else getting an XML error on start? Also, how do you craft them? I only get the option to craft a few of the ranged weapons.

the chinese need guan dao, fu tao,ji

also maybe ad some mongol weapon and bow
here some example for mongol sword dunno the name because most mongol movie depict them using arabian scimitar (yuck!)
would be nice too if you ad india and south east asian weapon they have many type and shape but i have no knowledge about it.

Hope you guys don't mind. I've done this little texture for my mod, if you want to use it for yours, that's perfect. eatKenny is a better artist so will probably outperform this anyway.

This is a great mod! I came here for the katana, I never thought I would see the very sexy Kris here.

Are you planning to make this Combat Extended compatible or is it far from the future?
