So. I downloaded RimWorld to my Win 7 desktop and I received the .zip file and I extracted it to my desktop. I opened the folder named RimWorld363Win and tried running the application and it just is not running. No error messages or anything pop up but the application never starts. Any tips?
did you extract ALL the file and folders in the zip?
I also am mainly running on w7 and in a folder on the desktop for all the rimworld versions that I have to date, but I extracted the entire zip to the rimworld folder then opened the rimworld folder on the desktop then opened the rimworld363win folder and inside I then created a shortcut to the desktop from the RimWorld363Win.exe and usually use the shortcut on my desktop to run the game
Hey Guys,
I've got the same problem. I just bought the game, received the link and downloaded the Windows version . When I start the normal game I just get a blackscreen and have to close the game via the task manager. I extracted the files multiple times without success. Any ideas?
Dose it start or and just stays there or does it not even start?
It does start, but immediately after double clicking i just get a black screen and can't do anything, except end the program with force :/ I already redownloaded it but the problem remains
I had a similar thing in the beginning, turned out that my Comodo Firewall opened it in a Sand Box Environment so RimWorld couldn't access all the files needed.
The weird thing about my problem was that it could run RimWorld in some places but not in other, for example I could run it in "C:\RimWorld" but not in "C:\...\Desktop\RimWorld", so try moving the entire map to "C:\" and try to run the game, if it works it is most likely to be the firewall or any other security application you have installed.
Thanks for the quick answers! I moved the files as you suggested to different locations, but it did not change anything. I also looked in the firewall options but I did not find anything that could help...
Make sure that you extracted it properly. For instance I have it on my desktop,

As you can see I have a Rimworld Folder, and a Shortcut.
You must keep all the files together like this next picture.

To make a shortcut follow the Directions above.
The short...Find exe, right-click, look for "send to", mouse over select "Desktop"
Thank you for the detailed description :) I followed your instructions but the problem remains. I downloaded the file, extracted it to the desktop, created a shortcut of the .exe right next to the file and clicked on the shortcut. But nothing changed :/ Only thing I noticed you have got an .xml file, is that one necessary ?

Okay, that's strange, because I don't have the file at all... Do you think that could be the problem?

Possibly, though it could just be made when you run the game....not 100% sure here though..need the power of Tynan, he'd have the answer. Possibly others though.
Okaay, how do we get Tynan's attention and power? :D Otherwise I'll just have to wait :-\

Or just take a walk with the dog and show up later.( more usefull ) ;)
Okaaaaaay.. good news, I read in another post that he needed to wait like 5 minutes to start the game, and I did the same and waited a long time. Then it suddenly came up! After this first start it starts much faster ... Thank you guys for the support and sorry I annoyed you with my impatience :) , Btw I live in Europe and taking the dog out at 1:30 am is not the best idea :D :D

Great to hear!
You also have the 5min bug? Please go to that topic and write that you also have it! :) cause its a rare bug. That we need and try to fix.
I'm going to do some logging to try to get to the bottom of it and I may be asking you guys to run the game for me with a special logger attached. I can't reproduce this myself.
Sounds good ty! Cause it's a strange issue!
Game is also refusing to start on Mac. Have tried a few solutions on the forums with no results.
I got it to work! I had to unzip with archive utility instead of my usual Keka (a nonstandard zip app).

Good to hear, I have used Winrar (http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html) forever..always free..never had an issue.
